Chapter 231 Lizard 1

Chapter 231 Lizard 1

The ship was thrown off course by a sudden surge of wind and waves. The strong wind whipped the waves forward, swirling white foam into the water, a starless, moonless darkness that blended seamlessly with the dark cloud pressing down overhead.

Just as everyone was on edge, the ship roared! This massive ship, capable of carrying hundreds of people, let out a teeth-grinding creaking sound, like bones dislocating.

Then the shouts of the crew filled the corridor...

Yu Mo's room was near the stairs, and she was the first to hear the crew's voice. She hurried upstairs to support her teacher, and followed the escape route directed by the crew to escape to the deck.

"Our ship has hit a reef. The captain is urgently turning and will leave here in twenty minutes! Please maintain order. There are enough lifeboats on board, and we will arrange for everyone to leave later..."

Wave after wave crashed in, the crashing spray blurring her vision. Her ears felt as if they were being squeezed, and her consciousness drifted in and out. Yu Mo suddenly spat out a mouthful of salty seawater and leaned her arms against a piece of driftwood. Golden sunlight broke through the clouds, scattering on the brown driftwood like tiny diamonds.

This ship, bound for the ocean, carried a research team from Qingcheng. The route and weather conditions had been carefully studied since the beginning of the voyage. Their destination was a recently discovered island, yet to be named, where a research team from Zhihe Biotechnology Company had been dispatched to conduct research.

However, the journey involved passing through a truly unforgiving area of the sea, which no matter how well they planned their route, could not be completely avoided. Unexpectedly, despite months of preparation and research, the ship still hit a reef. Fortunately, there were sufficient lifeboats, and the researchers were able to board them in an orderly manner.

Yu Mo's face was pale, and most of her body sank into the sea. She vomited two mouthfuls of water and her fingers that were holding the wood were tightly gripping on it.

Teacher Li was the person in charge of this research and also her mentor. When the accident happened, because she was Teacher Li's student, she was arranged to go in the front and got on the lifeboat one after the other.

Unfortunately, the lifeboat Yu Mo was on was low on fuel and capsized just as it was leaving the dangerous waters. The people on the lifeboat fell into the sea like dumplings. Yu Mo's last consciousness remained in the panic of the moment she fell into the sea. When she opened her eyes again, it was at this moment.

I don't know how long I drifted on the sea, but once I was far away from the pitch-black waters, the surface of the ocean turned a turquoise blue. Sunlight was fragmented and scattered, glittering golden rays adorning the woman's hair. Her short, wet, black hair clung to her scalp, making her face appear even whiter than paper. Her eyes were round, and there were tiny, indistinguishable brown spots on both sides of her cheeks, the result of long-term exposure to the sun.

The spots weren't eye-catching, dotting the sides of her face, diminishing some of her delicate beauty and revealing a slightly imperfect and cold look. Her eyes, initially filled with panic, turned calm, and as they moved, the sea surface suddenly rippled.

Yu Mo noticed that the speed of the water suddenly increased, and she quickly grabbed the life-saving straw -

A piece of earthy brown wood.

She didn't know where she was at the moment. The initial joy of surviving the disaster faded away, and she had to start thinking about the current problem. The sea area she was in was not a shallow sea, but an ocean. There were countless dangers hidden in the ocean, and there were even many marine species that had not been studied and quantified.

Looking around, there is endless water.

Yu Mo bit her lip and waited quietly for a moment. The dizziness subsided and she carefully moved the backpack on her back to her chest. Fortunately, the backpack was still on her body, otherwise she really didn't know how she would have gotten through it.

She opened her backpack and took a quick look. The food packaging bags were all waterproof, but that was not enough to make Yu Mo happy, because the only satellite phone she could use to call for help was torn into pieces by the bumpy ride. She didn't know if it could still be used.

Floating aimlessly, unable to discern her direction, with no reference points around her, she felt her insignificance more than ever. Fortunately, there was always a way out. Just as Yu Mo was about to despair, a turquoise island appeared before her. Overwhelmed with joy, she suddenly felt strong, holding onto the wood with one hand and swimming towards the island with the other.

Maybe it was because everything went smoothly, and we got there without much effort!

Yu Mo half-crouched on the shore, vomiting seawater and fine sand from her mouth. The gravel on the shore was hot from the sun. She lay there unconscious, and after a long while, she slowly pushed herself back, away from the gradually rising tide.

The sea was calm, and no one could have imagined that the seemingly harmless waters had swallowed up a heavily constructed ship just a few hours earlier! I wondered what had become of the others, and whether the teacher's rescue boat could safely escape...

After a moment's pause, Yu Mo was about to get up and leave the shore when she suddenly caught sight of the piece of driftwood carrying her, which was actually standing upside down on the sea surface. In the blink of an eye, it sank to the bottom of the sea! Her eyes widened in disbelief and she instinctively took a few steps forward, wanting to see more clearly, but all she could see were golden ripples on the calm sea surface.

It was as if the scene just now was her illusion...

Yu Mo wiped the water droplets from her face. Her raised arm looked white and translucent under the sunlight. The flesh on her arm, which had just touched the driftwood, was dotted with red marks, like the outline of dense and delicate scales.

She walked towards the depths of the island, leaving the unpredictable sea behind.

Just as Yu Mo turned around, waves rose on the sea surface, bubbles gurgled out from the bottom of the sea, and suddenly burst when they saw the sunlight.

Two large brown hands emerged from the water. If one didn't observe carefully, one would mistake them for those of a fisherman, weathered by the wind and sun. Sharp nails were submerged in the azure waves, the water concealing his scaly body. His exceptionally long and sturdy legs kicked beneath the surface, and a long, flexible tail dangled behind him. It was the piece of wood that had held Yu Mo afloat!

The seabed is teeming with dangers, but wherever this creature goes, it spreads like wildfire, leaving no grass behind.

He only showed his palms and head, his eyes fixed on the direction Yu Mo left, and his thick tail swayed in the water, creating layers of splashes.

Its vertical pupils, as green as wild grass, are full of unknown wildness. Its face has an outline that is almost the same as that of a human, except that its skin, which seems to be tanned into a honey color by the sun, is covered with densely distributed tiny scales upon closer inspection.

Just as Yu Mo was about to leave sight, he suddenly jumped out of the water, stood and observed for a short time, then touched the ground with all four limbs and disappeared on the empty island at an astonishing speed.

There are people living here!

Yu Mo hid in the dark and observed for a while. In addition to food, there were also some things for self-defense in the backpack: a military knife and a □□.

Teacher Li's team mostly studies newly discovered species, and it is common for them to be the first to land on unknown deserted islands. To ensure safety, the accompanying personnel are equipped with more equipment to protect themselves and the lives of the species.

After checking her backpack, Yu Mo tucked her saber into her waistband. She was wearing a special belt with a buckle specifically designed for sabers. She took out her gun, stuffed it into a pocket where she could easily get it out, and headed towards the village in the center of the island.

The woman who received Yu Mo claimed to be the wife of the village chief. She was dark-skinned, tall and strong. The women standing behind her were of similar build.

Yu Mo looked like a malnourished child.

There was a stone pot in front of the wooden house. A dozen people from the village gathered together, wearing strange clothes, including modern shorts and short-sleeved shirts, as well as gorgeous Western court costumes from the last century.

This group of people probably found it in the shipwreck.

Fortunately, the language is still understandable.

Yu Mo was glad that she had hidden her knives and guns on her body first. After she handed over her backpack and food, the chief's wife sent someone to take her to a wooden house outside the village.

The man chattered, "...This is Mingxi's house. He went out to sea with the villagers a few days ago and hasn't come back yet. You stay here first and leave when he comes back!"

After all, they were not communicating in their native language, and these people spoke with thick accents. Yu Mo could barely understand what they meant. She nodded to show that she understood. After the man left, she took the satellite phone that she had snatched from the backpack. The group of people probably saw that it was just a piece of junk and was not as interested as the biscuits in the backpack, so they didn't care.

Yu Mo entered the house, closed the door, and looked around. She didn't smell any danger, and she felt a little relieved. She had been floating on the sea for who knows how long, and now her limbs were weak. She didn't care about the dirty environment in the house. She found a wooden bed, moved the piled things on it to the ground, lay down on it with her clothes on, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

After all, she was in an unfamiliar environment, and the slightest movement could provoke her sensitive nerves. Outside the house, there were deliberately slowed footsteps. Yu Mo quickly hid in the dark and looked out the window. There was no one outside, only the night sea breeze blowing and the rustling of leaves.

Yu Mo was completely awake, her stomach rumbling. She clutched her stomach and opened the door. She was just thinking about going to the beach to get some sea fish or picking some wild grass to fill her stomach, when she saw a grilled fish wrapped in leaves sitting at the door! She looked around to see if there was anyone around, so she took it into the house. Although it tasted delicious, she never ate it.

She tore off a piece and placed it in front of what was obviously a rat hole, waiting quietly until she saw a huge rat take the fish and swallow it into its stomach. Then she quickly activated the simple mechanism and trapped the rat in the bamboo basket.

After dozens of minutes, the bamboo basket was opened and the mice ran away!

Yu Mo wolfed down the grilled fish.

The grilled fish was as thick as her arm. Perhaps because it was freshly caught from the sea, the surface of the fish had the salty taste of seawater. After being roasted by the flames, there was no fishy smell.

After filling her stomach, her tired mind gradually recovered. She sat cross-legged on the ground and began to fiddle with the satellite phone. She had just observed the situation on the island. Without modern technology, cell phone calls were out of the question. She could only hope for the satellite phone in front of her, which she didn't know if it could be repaired.

Who sent that sea fish? Yu Mo's thoughts drifted away. Perhaps the locals saw her backpack had been searched and sent it to her out of kindness to prevent her from starving to death. Although deep down, she didn't think those people would be so kind.

After repairing the box for a while, she had to think about tomorrow's situation. She had looked at the nautical chart, but she didn't know how far her current location was from the deserted island that the research institute was going to reach. She sighed and fell asleep with her arms resting on her head.
