Chapter 5 Mermaid 5
Zhang Jingshu's parking spot is very secluded.
She was afraid that her whereabouts would be exposed during the rescue, and the mermaid captors would notice her and come looking for her. Fortunately, there was only one seafood processing factory nearby, with a security camera installed at the gate. She used the car's navigation system to park outside the surveillance range.
This is a remote place with few people living nearby, so she is not worried about being discovered.
Zhang Jingshu originally wanted to leave the mermaid in the bushes and drive over to pick him up, but before she could say anything, she lowered her head and saw Cheng Shuinan hooking the corner of her pants in what he thought was a covert move.
He noticed Zhang Jingshu's gaze and quickly withdrew his hand. He stared at the corner of his trousers that he had soiled with an embarrassed expression. He slowly raised his eyes, mumbled "I'm sorry", and lowered his head again.
Just now, Zhang Jingshu heard Huang Ge and others talking about mermaids, and learned some information about mermaids from it.
He had been locked up in a warehouse ten years earlier, and they wanted to get the mermaid's tears from him.
What is the use of mermaid tears?
Zhang Jingshu had no interest in the mermaid's tears. What bothered her was "ten years ago."
Mermaids are born to belong to the sea, but the warehouse not only has no water source, but is even piled with boxes of rotten fish and shrimp. The closed warehouse has only one small window and the air is stuffy. However, Cheng Shuinan has survived in such an environment for ten years.
What Zhang Jingshu found incredible was that Cheng Shuinan had experienced the greatest malice of mankind, but he only showed a look of fear to her when they first met. The bite on her wrist was obviously nothing compared to Zhang Zheng's today.
She has seen many animals abused by humans. When faced with kindness, their subconscious reaction is fear and distrust. It often takes them a long time to get along with humans before they can resolve their hostility towards humans.
But Cheng Shuinan's dependence and trust came too quickly.
Zhang Jingshu looked into Cheng Shuinan's eyes, which were as clean and soft as a clear spring.
She sighed imperceptibly, thinking that he was too naive, he looked like a child who knew nothing about the world.
He didn't seem to have considered what to do if she was a bad person. When she asked to take him home, he didn't hesitate at all and agreed repeatedly, as if he was afraid she would regret it.
Zhang Jingshu felt very fortunate that Cheng Shuinan met her.
Zhang Jingshu squatted down, her face stained with mud and dust from the warehouse, making it look funny, but her eyes were bright enough to rival the stars in the night sky. She asked Cheng Shuinan: "My car is parked quite far from here, and it takes about ten minutes to walk there. Do you want to wait here for me to drive over to pick you up, or do you want to walk with me?"
If they walked together, Cheng Shuinan would need Zhang Jingshu to hold his hand and drag him forward, and they would inevitably touch the gravel in the process.
Zhang Jingshu didn't want to aggravate his wounds in this way, but he looked very timid, and his eyes would stick to her when she wasn't paying attention, as if he was afraid that she would suddenly leave him.
Cheng Shuinan's answer surprised Zhang Jingshu a little: "I, I'm here...waiting..."
Cheng Shuinan's intact right hand unconsciously grasped the corner of the sleeve tied around his waist. He lowered his head. From Zhang Jingshu's perspective, she could see his curved and curled eyelashes like butterfly wings flapping. His blinking frequency gradually increased, and after a while, his bright black eyes were filled with tears, which rolled around in his eye sockets.
Cheng Shuinan belatedly realized that he seemed to have caused trouble for Zhang Jingshu. She had only casually asked, but it sounded like a heavenly sound to him. Without the slightest hesitation, he wanted to go home with her. She must be distressed by this...
A mermaid who is good for nothing.
She had only helped him escape the warehouse of imprisonment out of kindness, but he had naively wanted to follow her back to her home.
She wanted to leave him here and then leave.
Cheng Shuinan thought sadly.
Zhang Jingshu couldn't help but reach out and rub his hair. Cheng Shuinan subconsciously dodged, and when he realized it was her, he showed an apologetic expression. Zhang Jingshu didn't mind, clenched her wet palms, and stood up: "Then you wait here, don't move, I'll be there soon."
Zhang Jingshu didn't know why he was suddenly sad. She just wanted to drive the car over quickly, so she started jogging.
Cheng Shuinan stared blankly at her back. The cold night wind blew across his cheeks, lifting the mermaid's long curly hair. The black hair fluttered in the wind, but his heart sank slowly as Zhang Jingshu walked away, until it sank into the endless emptiness and darkness.
It was as if countless blades were hidden in the wound, and as time went by, they all came out. He untied the coat that was wrapped around his fishtail, held it in his arms, and buried half of his face in it. The rich scent of irises wrapped him up, and he seemed to be back in a familiar place in his childhood. It was a scent that made him feel at ease and warm.
The sound of a car roaring suddenly came.
Cheng Shuinan opened his eyes wide, looking at Zhang Jingshu in the driver's seat in disbelief. She smiled at him, and he felt the blade of the wound suddenly change position and stab towards his heart gently. There was no wound that made him uneasy and painful, but an inexplicable palpitation.
Cheng Shuinan lowered his eyes and raised the corners of his mouth slightly.
Zhang Jingshu came to take him home.
She didn't abandon him.
…
The advantages of SUV are reflected, the interior space is much more spacious than that of sedan.
Cheng Shuinan's body was in a serious state of injury. Although he had an intact right hand, the injury on his left hand was enough to kill an ordinary person.
Zhang Jingshu took great effort to carry Cheng Shuinan to the back seat of the car.
She sat in the driver's seat and looked back at him: "Be patient for a while, there is food in the car, you can take whatever you want to eat. I don't have any medicine now, I'll find a pharmacy to buy some medicine first, and then we'll go home."
Cheng Shuinan's tail was large and covered in wounds. Zhang Jingshu didn't dare bend it, so she used a pillow to pad the back seat and let Cheng Shuinan rest his head on it, with most of his tail resting on the seat and the rest falling naturally underneath. She moved the front seat forward, leaving a large space in the back.
Cheng Shuinan lay on his back, his fair cheeks flushed.
He could smell that the air in the car was instantly replaced by a strong fishy smell. Perhaps because Zhang Jingshu was in a hurry, she drove very fast, and the car was a little bumpy when it encountered the uneven ground. At this moment, he suddenly realized that his wound was bleeding. Not only that, the clean leather seat was stained with dirty mud, and the bow-shaped pillow behind his head was not spared.
Cheng Shuinan felt embarrassed. He blinked and decided to tell her about the dirty seat, even though she might leave him behind out of anger.
“…Zhang Jingshu.”
"Well, what's wrong?"
Zhang Jingshu's gentle tone made his eyes suddenly moist, and the words on his lips suddenly became: "I'm sorry, I stained your car seat, but... I, my wound will heal soon. No need to bother with medicine, I can heal myself. I'm fine, wash the car..."
Cheng Shuinan looked at her anxiously.
Zhang Jingshu didn't mind the car issue. She noticed another thing: "Can you heal yourself?"
Cheng Shuinan quickly replied: "Well...well, the lighter ones won't hurt and can be healed in one day, but the more serious ones will take another day. Don't worry, I will be well tomorrow. I can help you. I can do anything."
He spoke with an eagerness to prove himself, as if he was terrified that Zhang Jingshu would abandon him. Yes, he said he had no home. If Zhang Jingshu couldn't take him home, where could he go? A mermaid as innocent and even a little foolish as him would probably be caught again soon.
Zhang Jingshu suddenly felt an urge to protect him from the bottom of her heart.
She originally wanted to rescue him and send him home, but now, she wants to change her mind. He has no home, so where else can he go?
Zhang Jingshu saw Cheng Shuinan in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
I don't know when it started, but his eyes were always filled with clear tears and moist gaze, like a simple and ignorant little animal that accidentally wandered into a bustling city. All it saw was confusion, and it could only follow her footsteps closely, treating her as the only person it could rely on and trust in this strange environment.
Zhang Jingshu said, "It will take a long time. Close your eyes and rest for a while."
Cheng Shuinan closed his eyes obediently.
Zhang Jingshu saw him hunched over slightly. She turned on the heater and felt the horrible wounds on his body. Her heart choked for a moment. He had said his body had the ability to heal itself, but from the first moment she saw him, his body was always covered in wounds, fresh and horrible.
They are so abominable.
Zhang Jingshu's original feelings of guilt and self-blame due to the fire had all dissipated and turned into deep hatred. Those people died in the fire, which was really too easy for them.
Zhang Jingshu gritted her teeth. She really wanted to return the torture they had inflicted on the merman to them!
Fortunately, Cheng Shuinan escaped.
It was late, and the shops on the city streets were closed. Zhang Jingshu couldn't find a pharmacy, so she had to take the mermaid home first. She had a cotton blanket in her car and wrapped Cheng Shuinan from head to toe.
"Just bear with it, hold on, we'll be home soon."
The underground garage and elevator in the residential complex were monitored, so she couldn't drag Cheng Shuinan along like she would in the wild. She could only force him to stand on his tail, which would tear his wound, but there was no other way.
After finally helping the mermaid back home and closing the door, Zhang Jingshu took a few deep breaths, and her tense nerves finally relaxed.
Cheng Shuinan leaned nervously against Zhang Jingshu, his eyes wide open as he looked around. The cold sweat oozing from his pale forehead couldn't eliminate the joy in his eyes. His nerves trembled with pain, but the emotions he felt were the joy of surviving a disaster and the confusion of the unknown. Fortunately...
He carefully touched Zhang Jingshu's ankle with his tail fin, and her warm body temperature eased his anxiety.
Cheng Shuinan exhaled slowly, lowered his eyes, and let Zhang Jingshu half drag and half hug him to the bathroom.
