Chapter 74 Large Prey, Rope Trap

"Let's go! Let's take a walk around the lake; we might find something else."

After setting up a simple shelter and hammock, Chen Fan planned to explore the surrounding area further.

If there are crocodiles in this lake, then there is a high probability that there are some larger prey nearby.

Because the crocodiles in the lake don't just feed on the fish in the lake; there might also be some large prey in the surrounding area that rely on this lake for survival.

"Okay!"

Liu Feifei nodded, and then the two of them grabbed their shovels, machetes, and bows and arrows and went out.

Because this lake is indeed very large and the vegetation is exceptionally dense, it would probably take quite a while to walk around it.

While exploring, Chen Fan also collected a lot of thin vines.

These vines can be woven into a fishing trap, and then you can go fishing in the lake!

The fish in the lake are all very big. If you can catch one or two, not only will your dinner be taken care of, but you can also have a meal tomorrow.

The two walked for more than half an hour without making any significant discoveries.

After walking for a while, Chen Fan suddenly saw some rather noisy footprints!

The surrounding vegetation had clearly been severely trampled, completely forming a forest path.

"It looks like a large animal passed by here. This path must have been trampled out by those animals!"

Chen Fan looked at the trampled marks around him and bent down to observe them carefully for a while.

Soon, some animal droppings were found not far away.

It looks a bit like the droppings of wild goats or deer...

"Chen Fan, these footprints look quite large. I wonder what kind of animal they could be?"

Looking at the clear footprints on the lakeshore, Liu Feifei couldn't help but ask curiously.

If they can catch a large prey, they can last longer.

More importantly, the variety of food can also be increased.

"It looks a bit like a wild goat or a deer!" Chen Fan guessed.

This guess is probably pretty accurate.

"Huh? A wild goat?"

"That's awesome!! If we can hunt one, we can have fresh lamb chops."

Upon hearing the words "wild goat," Liu Feifei's face immediately lit up with even greater excitement.

"Yes!"

"So I plan to set up a snare here first, hoping to catch some prey."

Chen Fan looked around at his surroundings, and a trap for hunting large animals immediately came to mind.

In fact, whether hunting large or small animals, the principles of setting traps are largely the same.

All you need to do is change the rope to a thicker one and choose a larger tree.

"What do you need me to do now? Just tell me."

Liu Feifei also became very proactive, since the traps she was about to create were very likely to catch large prey such as goats.

Then we'll be able to eat fresh lamb chops...

Even catching just one lamb would be good.

After eating leopard cub meat last time, I found that the meat of this small animal is more tender and delicious than that of larger prey.

"Go find some tree bark around here, I'll weave a rope!"

Chen Fan also spoke without any politeness.

“Okay! Leave it to me.” Liu Feifei quickly nodded in agreement.

Then he took a military shovel and went to cut down trees...

Chen Fan chose a small tree about three fingers thick. Even adult goats and deer couldn't break such a tree, making it perfect for setting traps.

...

Not long after, Liu Feifei brought back a lot of tree bark.

These tree barks are all fibrous and very tough, so the ropes woven from them will be extremely strong.

"Chen Fan, this much bark should be enough!"

After placing the bark in front of her, Liu Feifei asked a question.

"Yes, that's enough!"

"Next, we need to set up the hunting traps..."

Chen Fan nodded and then began to operate the machine.

The first step is to weave these tree barks into very strong ropes.

The ropes used for hunting large prey are much thicker than those used for hunting small animals like pheasants and rabbits!

At the very least, it should be as thick as a little finger, so as to prevent the prey from escaping after being caught.

Braiding ropes was a piece of cake for Chen Fan.

The rope weaving was completed in 20 minutes.

Next, we need to find two tree branches to create a trigger mechanism!

First, find a branch with barbs and drive it into the ground. Then, drive another straight branch into the ground at a distance of 30cm.

Five centimeters of the tree trunk should protrude above the ground; otherwise, it is likely to be noticed by prey.

Then, tie one end of the rope woven from the bark to the top of the tree, and then pull the tree trunk hard until it bends into an arc shape!

Based on the position of the barb on the ground, create a trigger mechanism, tie a small wooden stick three or four centimeters long to it, and then use a 30cm long wooden stick to support the small wooden stick trigger mechanism and another straight tree branch, so that it is suspended in mid-air.

Then place branches of the same length on both sides of the straight branch, thus creating a linkage trigger mechanism.

Once any branch is touched, the trap will be triggered immediately, and the chances of the trap activating will become much greater.

Then place the rope with the slipknot on the trigger mechanism.

That completes the simple rope trap!

Now, whenever prey passes by this path and steps on a small wooden stick, triggering the mechanism, the mechanism will be activated quickly.

Of course, to make the trap more concealed, it's best to cover it with a layer of fallen leaves or branches!

In this way, as long as prey passes by and triggers the trap, it will definitely not be able to escape.

It took a whole hour to make the trap!

This sounds simple, but it actually takes quite a bit of time to do.

"Alright, the rope trap is now complete."

"If any animals pass by here, we should be able to catch them."

Brushing the dust off his hands, Chen Fan was full of confidence in the trap he had created.

Previously, Liu Feifei didn't know much about rope traps.

But because Chen Fan made it so meticulously this time, he learned how to make it by watching.

Actually, this kind of trap is very, very simple; you can learn it after watching it once or twice.

But if someone who had never seen this before wanted to set up such a trap, it would be impossible for them to come up with such a clever idea!

"Alright, there seem to be signs of animals over there. Let's go over there and set up the same traps."

Chen Fan looked into the distance and saw similar signs of being trampled by animals.

Placing an additional hunting trap will increase the chances of success.

The two then continued setting traps...
