Chapter 16

Chapter 16

On the playground, the PE teacher's voice was loud and clear: "Students, today is the first PE class. I'm going to do a baseline test for you. Each of you will do fifteen frog jumps in place, and then I'll measure your heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing to determine your basic physical condition. I will take appropriate measures for students who are physically weak or not suitable for strenuous exercise. Do you all understand?"

"Understood, teacher!" all the students in Class 3 of Grade 7 answered in unison.

"Wang Lei, you're always grinning like that, why don't you set an example for everyone!"

"Sister Xue, you've had a cold for the past few days, are you sure you're okay? Should I ask the teacher to help you get a day off?"

This was Liu Yuling speaking in a very low voice. While Wang Lei was doing frog jumps, she turned her head and said something to Li Muxue beside her.

Liu Yuling was petite and delicate, almost ten centimeters shorter than Li Muxue. She wore a mushroom haircut, a style popular among junior high school girls at the time. Her skin was like a peeled boiled egg—smooth, delicate, and flawless, without a single blemish or pimple. Among teenage girls, such skin was practically a blessing from Aphrodite. Like Li Muxue, Liu Yuling also wore glasses, but her frames were irregular diamond shapes and light pink, adding a touch of playfulness.

Throughout Class 3 of the first year of junior high school, Liu Yuling was Li Muxue's only friend.

"No need to trouble yourself, I can manage!" Li Muxue gritted her teeth, even though she still had a low-grade fever...

Soon, it was Xu Chen's turn to do the frog jumps. Wearing shorts and a tracksuit, the scars on his legs were clearly visible. Some of the more timid girls felt a sudden discomfort, screaming and closing their eyes. Xu Chen's embarrassment was palpable, but he could only blush and remain silent as he continued jumping…

Wang Lei shouted from the side, "Why are you all making such a fuss? Haven't you heard the line from Saint Seiya? 'A man's scars are his medals'! You're so ignorant!"

When Li Muxue saw the scar, she suddenly remembered that snowy night three years ago, when he knelt there for so long... A rare tenderness flashed in her eyes.

"Li Muxue, it's your turn. Step forward!"

The PE teacher's shout pulled Li Muxue back from her reverie, and she hurriedly stepped out of the line.

"Teacher Xue, Li Muxue's cold hasn't gotten better yet. Could you reduce the number of dishes she makes a little? I can just make a few more for her!"

Liu Yuling suddenly yelled, startling the PE teacher.

"Alright! You said it yourself, Li Muxue, you do ten, and Liu Yuling, you do twenty!"

Upon hearing that her teacher had agreed, Liu Yuling beamed and exclaimed, "Teacher Xue is so great, so cool..."

The PE teacher smiled helplessly: "You're so mischievous, and you have so much energy!"

"Yu Ling, could you hold this for me?"

As she spoke, Li Muxue took off her black-rimmed glasses and handed them to Liu Yuling.

"Li Muxue, if you have a cold and feel unwell, you don't have to do it. You can take the test next time. It's okay. Don't force yourself. It's not good for your health."

The teacher's voice softened considerably.

Li Muxue shook her head stubbornly: "Teacher, don't worry, I'm really fine, I can take the test!"

She walked onto the artificial turf of the playground and started doing frog jumps. When she got to the seventh jump, she felt like her legs were filled with lead or cement, her heart was pounding wildly as if it was going to explode in her chest, and then everything went black...
