Chapter 81

Even if he were to die in the next second, he would prefer to die as a human being rather than as a monster.

Lin Xi heard the voice in her heart whisper.

Perhaps it was because he kept telling himself that no matter if he called it "Number One" or Xavier, this alien species was always just a monster... That night, when Lin Xi woke up with a familiar heart palpitation and saw Xavier once again displaying an aggressive posture in front of another sac about to be born, he didn't even feel angry.

Everything felt like time had reversed, or like a nightmare repeating itself.

Xavier's upper body was upright, while his forelimbs were almost piercing through the swollen fleshy sac.

Even though it always appeared timid in front of Lin Xi, no one could ignore its ferocity and terror when it attempted to kill other creatures.

"What are you doing?"

Lin Xi took a deep breath, and then he asked.

He was calm.

Because he had anticipated this scene long before.

The only thing that surprised him was how quickly Xavier acted. Lin Xi thought it would wait until the newborn mutants were born, like "White," but he didn't expect that after he fell into a deep sleep again, Xavier, who had received a new name, would be so eager to attack even those of his own kind who were still developing.

"Lin Xi—"

On the contrary, Xavier himself felt uneasy for a moment after realizing that Lin Xi was awake.

"Yes, I'm sorry."

Xavier suddenly put his arms behind his back, looking at the other person helplessly with a hint of fear in his eyes.

Beside him, another pale insect shadow was twitching restlessly inside the sac.

Even through the swollen, translucent membrane, Lin Xi could vaguely see its shape.

It has a very similar appearance to "White," but unlike "White," this time it looks even more like Saviel. The inhumanity of being a different species is almost impossible to detect. After sensing the murderous intent emanating from Saviel, it very humanly put its hands on the edge of the pouch, staring at Lin Xi in utter panic through the slime and gelatinous outer wall.

thump thump—

thump thump—

thump thump—

Lin Xi gently pressed her hand to her chest.

The affection and attachment from yet another newborn alien species once again connected with his mind, and his instincts began to stir.

"Hiss..."

Lin Xi heard a hissing sound, tinged with a hint of threat, emanating from his throat. It was a warning from Him to Xavier to stay away from these newly born members of His Kin. He abruptly pursed his lips, the utterly disgusting, monstrous maw of flesh throbbing restlessly inside his mouth.

A desire Lin Xi had never felt before arose in his heart. He longed to attack Xavier because this Queen Insect was an unqualified being—even though it was strong and had an efficient killing instinct, Lin Xi's instincts were constantly warning him that Xavier was posing a threat to the existence of the entire species.

Even though Lin Xi had tried his best to restrain his animalistic nature, the aura surrounding him still became sharp and full of hostility.

Xavier shuddered, then reluctantly took several steps back.

"Lin Xi..."

It looked at Lin Xi pitifully, unable to explain its current behavior.

All it knew was that it loathed these newborn insects.

It had thought that it would relax after receiving a new name and Lin Xi’s unprecedented pity and affection, but the feelings that occupied its soul grew stronger and stronger, so strong that its instinct as a queen insect could not suppress its dark emotions.

It should be trying to multiply its species and produce more offspring—no, it hates the presence of other members of its kind around Lin Xi.

She should have obeyed the Mother of the Others and helped her manage her numerous and vast kin—but she wanted to kill those kin so that they would never appear before Lin Xi again.

Xavier still remembers what he looked like when he was disguised as a star butterfly, and his deepest desire is to return to that time.

Lin Xi only had it by her side.

Only it—

Then, Xavier opened his eyes in the darkness.

Unfortunately, just as its instincts and desires were locked in a stalemate, it missed its best opportunity.

Lin Xi woke up and witnessed its actions firsthand.

Xavier wouldn't miss the unmistakable anger in Lin Xi's eyes.

It felt a tearing sense of despair and pain.

"Lin Xi".

It murmured softly, awaiting the impending pain.

It had already seen the dark red in Lin Xi's eyes, the gaze of "He," and that unusually obvious desire to kill... Xavier was prepared; it might be eaten by "He."

However, even if that's the case, it doesn't matter... It already has a new name, a name given by Lin Xi...

So it already...

What happened next was something Xavier never expected.

"Pfft—"

It was the sound of a wet piercing.

Then came the blood of the alien species, which continuously gushed from the shattered skin.

Xavier stared wide-eyed at Lin Xi in shock—

The latter had lowered his eyelids and an unusually calm expression.

Dark, slender, sharp claws, like the scythe of death, protruded from beneath his fingernails.

It was these sharp claws that easily pierced through the fleshy sacs that were nurturing new life, and even penetrated the head of the newborn alien that was about to be born.

"Waaaaah...waaaah...hiss..."

The newborn mutant did not die immediately.

It appeared to be in immense pain.

Thin, almost human-like arms swayed constantly in the mucus that enveloped its body.

Just like the "white" before, it used the most touching human-like whimpering sound when it cried out, only turning into an extremely desolate insect chirp at the moment of its impending death.

"Hiss..."

Eventually, the loud chirping of insects faded away.

It died before Lin Xi, its eyes wide open, a deep blue, just like Savile's.
