This dream made him very curious; he wished it were real.
Meanwhile, Zhao Aiguo, the dark-skinned, thin, and short man he dreamed of, was painfully writing with a pen and notebook. He didn't know why Secretary Li had to use his connections to get him into a training class, give him some advanced training, and then transfer him to the Organization Department. Heaven knows he didn't want to be in this unit at all; he just wanted to be a driver for the school. Having to write so many materials every day was killing him!
He was painfully writing reports under the lamp, feeling suicidal. A pile of crumpled paper lay at his feet; he was utterly empty-handed.
Feeling like crying but having no tears, he went to the tax bureau the next day, slammed the documents in front of Li Meiyu, and looked at her with resentful eyes, saying, "I don't care, you write these documents! Otherwise, I'll tell your parents about you and Lü Xiaozhou!"
Li Meiyu was also exasperated. This kid looked so clever and shrewd, but who knew he was just a pretty face with no substance. Then she said, "It's okay, it's okay! Wait for me!"
Then he took the materials to find Lü Xiaozhou. The talented young man finished writing them in less than an hour and a half and handed them to Zhao Aiguo. Zhao Aiguo took one look and nodded, saying, "Okay, you can do all my work from now on."
Then he said to Li Meiyu, "Could you talk to your dad and tell him that I want to go back to my old workplace? I don't want to stay here."
Li Meiyu looked at him and said, "You have no ambition. This company offers fast promotions and plenty of opportunities to show your face. Do you want to be a driver for the rest of your life?"
Zhao Aiguo scoffed, "I'd rather be a driver! I just don't like being here. Anyway, you figure something out for me, otherwise Lü Xiaozhou will have to work two shifts. You decide what to do!"
Zhao Aiguo was furious. His workplace offered high salaries, good benefits, and decent food in the cafeteria—why would they bother with this job? His family wasn't counting on him to become an official and bring glory to the family. He took the report written by Lü Xiaozhou back to submit his report. For a moment, he even considered quitting his job and just staying home and sponging off his parents. After all, the college entrance exam had been reinstated, and his family owned a two-courtyard, four-room shared apartment; he could collect rent for his grandparents and he wouldn't starve.
These past few days, he's come home from get off work looking gloomy, which worries his parents greatly. His mother asked, "What's wrong, grandson? Are you unhappy at work?"
Zhao's father sighed and said, "That unit requires writing reports, and our grandson can't even write a two-hundred-word essay. It's not easy for him!"
Zhao's mother also sighed and said, "Grandson, just bear with it a little longer! You can't just quit! You can't go back to that job at school, and you can't just stay at home and be a street urchin!"
Zhao Aiguo said sullenly, "I don't like that workplace. It's so lifeless every day. I can already see what it will be like when I retire..."
"Zhao Aiguo! You dare not work properly? I'll beat you to death!" Wei Shuqing glared at him as she entered.
Zhao Aiguo getting into the Organization Department is a stroke of good luck. This little bastard, although he never went to university, took shortcuts all the way to get on the right path. But this bastard is oblivious and still wants to cause trouble.
Zhao Aiguo said "Oh," and Wei Shuqing said earnestly, "Writing these materials isn't difficult. It's all about accumulating knowledge step by step. I only had a junior high school education, but look at me now, I can still write these materials, can't I? Son, listen to me!"
Zhao Jiaguo nodded and said, "Okay, I understand!"
Zhao Dahu didn't get a word in edgewise, because his son had indeed worked five days a week, and he was unhappy every time he came home, his face always looking grim.
