Wei Shuqing spent the entire morning restless in her office, her mind filled with thoughts of Li Mao helping Qi Zhifang vent her anger by targeting her and Zhao Dahu. She didn't care about herself, but what if it implicated Zhao Dahu's entire family? Qi Zhifang was such a troublemaker! Finally, it was lunchtime. After saying goodbye to Sister Liu, she hurried to the cafeteria to find Zhao Dahu.
For some reason, she felt that the strange book in her dream was giving her some kind of warning. She strode into the cafeteria, not even bothering to reserve a seat, and went straight into Zhao Dahu's small room. The room was small, only about ten square meters, and simply furnished. There was a single bed with a white and blue striped mattress and a large floral pillow. On the pillow was a military overcoat. At the head of the bed was a square stool with a half-empty mug of tea that Zhao Dahu hadn't finished. It couldn't be simpler, but it was very clean.
Zhao Dahu was talking to the canteen manager, telling his apprentice to keep an eye on Wei Shuqing and take her lunchbox if she came. The apprentice was getting his food at the window, keeping his eyes on the door as he waited.
Finally, they spotted Wei Shuqing, but she went straight into the lounge. After Zhao Dahu finished speaking, he heard from his apprentice that his master's wife had gone to the lounge. Zhao Dahu was stunned and quickly came in with his lunchbox, thinking to himself, "Why is this woman going to her own lounge instead of the cafeteria?"
As soon as he entered, he noticed that Wei Shuqing didn't look well. She was sitting on the bed in the room, lost in thought. He frowned and said unhappily, "Why are you in this room? Aren't you going to the cafeteria for lunch?"
He placed two lunchboxes and a rice bowl on the stool. The food was bland: stir-fried cabbage and carrot slices, and stewed radish strips and tofu. He handed Wei Shuqing a pair of chopsticks, but she didn't seem to have much of an appetite. He took a jar of stinky tofu from the windowsill, picked out a piece, and put it on the lid of the lunchbox, saying, "The food is a bit bland today, but the stinky tofu will help me eat more. Eat more. Look at you, you're not waiting in the cafeteria for your food at mealtime, you're sneaking into my room. It's a coincidence, I talked to the director about having special meals tonight. If you stay any later, you won't even get to eat, and you won't have the energy to work this afternoon. I don't know what's so good about my room."
Wei Shuqing took the chopsticks, feeling annoyed. Her tone wasn't pleasant either. She said irritably, "Stop dawdling. Your mouth is practically as mushy as the dumpling filling in the cafeteria. Guess who I saw?"
Zhao Dahu rolled his eyes at Wei Shuqing and said, "You look like you've seen a ghost! You sneak into my rest room in broad daylight, do you not trust me? Or do you have some other idea? It would be bad if outsiders found out."
Wei Shuqing glared at him. "You're such a jerk! We've been married for years. What could I possibly want from you? How can you talk like that? I don't even trust you. There are so many people working in this factory every day. What do you think you're doing here? You don't think before you speak. Shouldn't you be asking me why I'm here?"
Zhao Dahu took off his arm sleeves and put them in his apron pocket, saying in a muffled voice, "What's wrong? What happened? Did someone bully you? You can't really be seeing a ghost!"
Wei Shuqing was furious. Zhao Dahu was good in every way, but when he was being stubborn, he could say something that could drive a person crazy. She shouted, "I'm telling you, he's scarier than a ghost! I've met a female hooligan!"
Zhao Dahu exclaimed, immediately stood up, and roared, "Damn it, how dare he molest my wife! I'll chop him up! Where's the mole?"
Wei Shuqing said angrily, "What are you yelling for? I said you're a female hooligan!"
Zhao Dahu's eyes widened like copper bells. "They're all hooligans, why distinguish between men and women!" Looking at his wife's fair and tender skin, and her increasingly voluptuous figure, he couldn't help but grit his teeth in anger. Damn it, no matter how good his wife is, he raised her with all his heart and soul, and she dares to act like a hooligan on his head! She's really asking for trouble! Just as he was figuring out how to beat up the hooligan...
Wei Shuqing sighed, "I meant I saw Qi Zhifang at our factory!"
Huh? Zhao Dahu was dumbfounded and said in disbelief, "Don't joke around, she's a criminal, a female hooligan, how could she possibly come to our factory? Our factory has high standards, how could we let her in!"
Wei Shuqing sighed and said, "You also think it's impossible, right? But she has been working in our factory's logistics department for more than a month. Just today, someone went to the Women's Federation and said that she stole someone else's job and even wrote a lewd letter to someone else's husband."
Zhao Dahu, incredulous, couldn't resist asking, "Good heavens, a counterfeiter and fraudster, with indecent assault charges, who should have spent his entire life in jail, managed to sneak out and work at our factory. That's not just incredible luck, it's like his ancestors' graves are burning! Instead of keeping a low profile, he dares to act like a hooligan. By the way, why did she write such a lewd letter?"
Wei Shuqing, annoyed that Zhao Dahu was missing the point, poked his head. "He wrote a love letter to someone else's husband and had his wife read a short passage aloud in public. It's disgusting! She's almost thirty and still doing this useless stuff all the time. I didn't see the details, but..." She veered off-topic, angrily saying, "Can't you hear the point? The point is, he wrote a lewd letter? Don't you even know what she does for a living?!"
Zhao Dahu then realized, "Yeah! How did she get the job? How could our factory let someone like that in? It doesn't make sense! She couldn't even pass the background check. Shouldn't we fire her if she wasn't someone like that?"
"It was arranged by Wang Yanda's comrade-in-arms, who is also the leader of their fire brigade. That job should have been his wife's, but this unfortunate soul gave it to Qi Zhifang. The onboarding procedures were all handled normally, through proper channels, and this leader vouched for her previous political issues, so the chances of her being fired are slim. I'd conservatively estimate she'll be transferred, but it's also possible she'll stay in her original position. Do you think I dug up the Qi family's ancestral graves in my past life? Otherwise, why are the Qi family's ghosts haunting me in this life? I can't escape their clutches no matter where I go!"
