After watching Lao Liang leave, Qi Zhifang slowly walked back, her heart as heavy as if it were being fried in oil. Why was God so unfair, preventing two people who loved each other from being together forever?
Qi Zhifang slowly walked back, thinking to herself, "God! I'll never call you Grandpa again! You don't care about your granddaughter at all! What am I going to do? Can't any of you stay with me until the end? Why did you arrange this for me? Am I not worthy of love? Why are you playing this joke on me? I really don't ask for much, I just want someone to stay with me until the end. To be more specific, I hope that person is Lao Liang."
At this point, Wang Yanda and Dai Shiliang had long been forgotten by him, as if they had never appeared in his life, while she was Lao Liang's flamingo.
After washing up in the dark, she quietly went to bed and had just lain down when her mother said softly, "Fangzi, why are you back so late?"
Qi Zhifang was startled and patted her chest, saying, "Mom, you scared me to death!" After a while, she said, "I'm working overtime at work. Go to sleep! I'm tired."
She lay down on her side, facing outwards, her mind pounding with frustration. At that moment, she was incredibly jealous of Li Yuemei. They were both heavy laborers in the workshop; why did Li Yuemei get to monopolize such a good man as Lao Liang? Did she deserve him? She also made excuses for herself, telling herself, "Qi Zhifang, even if God isn't on your side, are you really going to give up? Are you really going to miss out on someone as good as Lao Liang? If, as Lao Liang said, we really just weren't brave enough to miss each other, then I'll bravely take that step. Maybe things will turn out differently. Li Yuemei, if I really do take Lao Liang away, don't blame me, because you and he won't have a good outcome, just like Wei Shuqing and my brother Qi Zhijun. I'm saving you, and I'm also helping Lao Liang and me get together." Thinking this, she decided to try her best for herself, for Lao Liang, and for Li Yuemei.
After thinking about it all night, she decided the next day to fight for herself. Love shouldn't be defined; it should be expressed from the heart! She hadn't entered the "grave" of marriage, and it shouldn't be simply labeled with ownership. She refused to believe she couldn't compete with a factory worker.
"Zhifang? Why are you up so early? Stop making things and eat while it's hot!" Mother Qi said, glancing cautiously outside. "I served you the bottom layer of porridge, it's thicker there, hurry up! Otherwise, when Xiao Cui gets up and sees it, he'll be upset again."
Qi Zhifang seemed not to hear and was not in a hurry. She methodically drew her eyebrows and applied makeup, split a chopstick in half with a knife, put it on the stove, and finished applying the makeup. Then she picked up her hair and curled her bangs to fix it. At this moment, she was planning something important. After she finished, she slowly drank her porridge. No matter how thick the cornmeal porridge was, it was not as satisfying as potstickers with chicken soup. Therefore, Lao Liang was someone that Qi Zhifang was determined to have.
He put down his bowl and said, "Mom, I'm going to work."
"I've packed your lunchbox, aren't you going to take it?" Qi's mother chased after her with the lunchbox, but Qi Zhifang didn't even turn her head and said, "No need, I'll eat at the cafeteria today!"
"This child, why didn't you say you were going to eat at the cafeteria? What are we going to do with this whole lunchbox?" Mother Qi grumbled as she put the lunchbox back.
After getting dressed and leaving the house, Qi Zhifang happened to run into Xiao Cui. She smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, you're up! Go eat! Mom's all ready." Xiao Cui nodded and said okay. Qi Zhifang didn't say anything more and left. For some reason, Xiao Cui felt very uneasy, as if something was about to happen. Puzzled, she went inside and ate breakfast with Qi's mother.
Meanwhile, Qi Zhifang had been waiting at the factory gate since early morning. After about twenty minutes, she saw Lao Liang arrive at the gate on his bicycle with Li Yuemei. Li Yuemei got off, greeted Lao Liang, and left with her friends. As Lao Liang was locking his bicycle, Qi Zhifang pretended to walk by and said to him, "Get off work. Are you still at that dumpling shop? I'll wait for you."
After saying that, she left as if nothing had happened, leaving behind a lingering fragrance. Old Liang, who was bending down to lock his car, froze. He looked back and saw that Qi Zhifang had already walked a few steps away. His eyes flickered with a complicated expression. He straightened up and walked into the factory as well.
Qi Zhifang sensed Lao Liang behind her, and walked forward with an affected, swaying body. This woman who had given birth knew better than anyone what men liked. By the time she returned to her office, her face was already red.
Of course, anger rose in his heart, and he cursed inwardly, "That bitch Li Yuemei, she's shameless, riding on the back of a man's bicycle before she's even married."
Finally, noon arrived. Qi Zhifang, carrying her lunchbox, went to the outer hall alone. As soon as she entered, she saw Lao Liang and Li Yuemei sitting alone in a corner, eating. She felt jealous and hurriedly got her own food and sat down not far from them, eavesdropping on their conversation as she ate.
Just as Li Yuemei was about to pour the tofu and fried pork cracklings out of the lunchbox for Lao Liang, Lao Liang finished picking them out as well. He smiled and said, "Look at you, you always save the best for me. Have you forgotten that you did the hard work? Even if I'm not very fit, how tired can I get from sitting in the office all day? You need to replenish your nutrition, so eat up!" He poured the food into Li Yuemei's lunchbox without giving her a chance to refuse.
Li Yuemei lowered her head and started eating, saying with a happy expression, "Old Liang, you're so good to me, you're spoiling me rotten."
Old Liang chuckled and said, "Spoiled like that? You really dare to think that way! By the way, are you free tonight?"
Li Yuemei nodded and said, "After I get off work, I'm going to go back to Tongzhou with my mom to deliver some food to my grandparents. They're having a hard time too!"
Old Liang nodded, took out a large denomination bill, two canned food coupons, and a sugar coupon from his pocket, and handed them over, saying, "Take this to the grocery store and buy the things you need. Then explain to her that I, as her grandson-in-law, am too busy with work to go back and visit her. Please give her my regards, and invite her to come and have a good time when we get married."
