With Xiao Hu's support over the past few years, Qi Zhifang has regained her former fair and delicate appearance, retaining her charm even in her middle age. Of course, it's not that no one has tried to take advantage of her, but she doesn't fancy the rough and unrefined cook in the factory.
With such outstanding individuals as Dai Shiliang, Lao Liang, and Xiao Hu, how could she possibly be interested in rubble? She rejected all of them without hesitation.
That day, as she was walking home after get off work, she happened to walk past Lao Liang. She frowned, turned her head away, and pretended not to know him.
"Zhifang! You're off work!" Old Liang greeted her with a smile, as if they had only parted yesterday.
Qi Zhifang snorted coldly, "A good dog doesn't block the way!"
Old Liang was taken aback and said, "We can't be friends, but there's no need to be so confrontational, is there?"
Qi Zhifang coldly replied, "How can I not confront you head-on and make amends for the slander you gave me in front of Li Yuemei!"
Old Liang was truly stunned this time, and said urgently, "When did I ever speak ill of you in front of Li Yuemei? One is my wife, and the other is the woman I love most. I would rather hurt myself than hurt either of you! I have never spoken ill of her in front of you, and I have never spoken ill of you in front of her either. I swear!"
Qi Zhifang looked at him coldly and said, "If you hadn't slandered me, why would she have come to me and said those things?"
Old Liang sighed and said, "That day when we went inside, she was watching from outside. She saw what happened herself. Afterwards, I said that if it didn't work out, we would get a divorce, but she begged me not to. I really didn't have the courage to see you, so I had to transfer jobs. You can hate me for being a coward and escaping reality, but you can't slander me and defame you!"
Qi Zhifang looked at him and sneered, "What's the use of saying all this now? Does it mean you've done no harm to me? You're a real bastard!" She turned to leave, but Lao Liang grabbed her, saying, "I don't ask for your forgiveness, but please believe me. I hope we can still be friends. If you ever need my help, I will do my best!"
Qi Zhifang pushed him away and glared at him, saying, "Just stay away from me." Then she left, but it has to be said that a knot in her heart was untied.
As soon as Qi Zhifang returned home, she saw Wang Yanda's uncle sitting in the Qi family's living room with Dongfanghong. Qi Zhifang also saw the three children she hadn't seen for five years.
Uncle Wang Yanda looked coldly at Qi Zhifang and said, "Things haven't been going well lately. We changed Wang Dong's age. He originally wanted to join the army, but he failed the physical exam. We used connections to get him a job at an arms factory. We'll send the three children back for now. We hope that in the future you can think things through from a mother's perspective before you do anything, and don't make things difficult for the children anymore."
Qi Zhifang's face turned completely red, and her lips trembled as she was unable to speak.
Uncle Wang Yanda ignored her and said to Wang Dong, "Child, I've rented a small house for you on the other side of the street, right next door. I've given you the money too. From now on, you take good care of your sisters and live a good life. Once we get through this, our family will be reunited!"
The three children nodded through their tears, "Uncle, you must take good care of yourselves." "Uncle, I can't bear to part with you." "Uncle, I can't bear to part with you either!" The three children's eyes were red, and Uncle Wang Yanda sighed and left.
That's all he could do. He gritted his teeth and said, "Dongzi, this money might be the last thing the Wang family gives you. Keep it safe and don't let it be harmed by those with ulterior motives." He ignored the children calling him "Uncle!" and snorted coldly at Qi Zhifang, leaving behind the words, "Take care of yourself!" before striding away.
Wang Dong silently moved the luggage of his three siblings to the house next door, the home of the elderly widow Liu who had passed away last month.
Since the old lady died, the street took back the house, and Uncle Wang Yanda spent 300 yuan to rent it for the children for ten years. He figured that Wang Fang and Wang Hong would be married in ten years, and if Wang Dong worked hard, his work unit would be able to provide him with housing, so ten years would be enough.
None of the three children spoke to Qi Zhifang; they silently walked past her. Qi's mother sighed, patted Qi Zhifang's hand, and went over to help the children tidy up.
Qi Zhifang felt a mix of emotions. Her children had all grown up in the blink of an eye, and she had missed five years of their lives. She couldn't continue living in such a daze. Now that her children were back, she had to take good care of them.
Grandma Liu's house had a similar layout to theirs: a master bedroom, a living room, half a kitchen, and a side room. Qi's mother and the two girls were tidying up the master bedroom.
Wang Dong consciously took his luggage to the side room, put the bedding on the bed and started tidying up. Just as he finished making the bed, Qi Zhifang changed her clothes, came in with a rag, and joined him in tidying up without saying a word.
Wang Dong gave her a deep look without saying a word. As he turned to leave, Qi Zhifang said, "Stop! I'm your mother. Even if you hate me, five years should be enough! When are you going to forgive me?"
Wang Dong stopped and after a while said in a low voice, "I have no right to hate you, so I have no right to forgive you! If you want forgiveness, you should go to my father's grave and beg him for forgiveness."
Qi Zhifang was so angry that tears streamed down her face. "What did I do wrong? What crime did I commit that I have to beg for forgiveness? There have always been widows who remarry, and the law doesn't say it's forbidden! What did I do wrong? Just because of the three of you, does that mean I have to build a monument to my chastity and spend my whole life with you? Am I not allowed to have my own feelings? Why should I beg for his forgiveness!"
Wang Dong was amused by his mother's remarks, chuckling softly, "But premarital pregnancy has always been shameful. You haven't broken the law, but you're recklessly testing the limits of morality. You've already crossed all boundaries. Don't tell me you're pursuing love, don't insult that word! Is that love? That's fucking adultery!"
