Just as Zhao Aiguo was about to give up after being called several times, the three members of the Zhao family came in, all looking rather unwell. Wei Shuqing knew what was going on and felt a headache coming on.

Terrified, she sat cautiously on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) and whispered, "What's wrong? I haven't done anything bad lately." She glanced furtively at her parents and said guiltily, "Grandpa and Grandma, I really haven't done anything bad. Can you tell me what's wrong?" Her mother turned her face away, her eyes red-rimmed. She couldn't bear to think about what would happen to Aiguo if he left home.
Zhao Dahu glanced at his father and mother, and said in a deep voice, "Who did you run into at the factory gate when you went home at noon?"
