Qi's mother was so angry that her chest ached. She glared at him and said, "You're such a good person, how come you only have a mouth!"
Zhao Aiguo laughed heartily, "My mom gave birth to me well!"
Qi's mother was so angry that her liver ached. She was so damned that Zhao Aiguo had hit all her sore spots.
With a leisurely look in her eyes, Qi's mother said, "I've noticed that you don't seem to like this old woman very much!"
Zhao Aiguo shrugged. "Why are you taking this so seriously, old lady? This is just casual conversation. Why make such a fuss over nothing?"
Mother Qi sighed and said, "You know, my son isn't around, and my daughter is unfilial. She doesn't listen to me, and we always end up arguing and getting angry whenever we talk."
Zhao Aiguo chuckled, "Why bother arguing when you can't win? Aren't you just asking for trouble? Let me tell you, old lady, whether a woman argues with her family or tries to reason with them, it doesn't matter if you can't win the argument or the argument. Just bring up old grievances."
Qi's mother was caught between a rock and a hard place, and looked at Zhao Aiguo, saying, "Where did you learn all this nonsense..."
Zhao Aiguo said nonchalantly, "You'll learn by watching people curse a few more times. Do you even need to learn? With your old arms and legs, you can forget about fighting, but you'll outlive them! You can dredge up old grudges and kill them!"
Mother Qi felt that continuing to talk to this little rascal would only make her more angry, so she turned and walked towards the side road. Zhao Aiguo called out, "Grandma, what's wrong!"
Qi's mother turned around and said, "Go buy some groceries. I'll get so angry if I talk to you again!"
Zhao Aiguo chuckled and waved his hand, "Grandma, take care! Have a safe journey!"
Qi's mother glared at her resentfully and left, muttering "Pah!" in her heart several times. "Children speak without thinking, children speak without thinking."
I had just gotten home when I saw Qi Zhifang there. She was wearing a plaid long skirt, a floral short-sleeved shirt, and a bow tie around her neck. Her face had turned a wheatish color, but it was much smoother.
Without looking to the side, she unlocked the door and rushed inside, intending to shut Qi Zhifang out. Qi Zhifang whispered, "Mom! What are you doing?"
Qi's mother coldly replied, "Don't call me Mom. I'm not your mother. I couldn't have given birth to someone as shameless and irresponsible as you."
Qi Zhifang said angrily, "What are you doing? What did I do to offend you?" She glanced over and saw someone looking at them, then whispered, "Mom, please let me in!"
Qi's mother let go of the door and went into the kitchen to wash her hands and cook.
With tears welling in her eyes and her voice trembling with sobs, Qi Zhifang said, "Mom, so you're still angry with me because I didn't give up my job to Honghong?"
Qi's mother glanced at her sideways and said calmly, "You really have no heart! You won't let Honghong work, nor do you think about sending her any money. You only think about dressing yourself up when you have a little money. She's not even 16 years old yet, all alone in the Northwest, struggling to eat and dress. When you can't sleep, do you ever think about her? She's your own flesh and blood! And you, her mother, are doing just that, hogging the job, eating and drinking well, wearing new clothes. You're living a life of luxury. Aren't you afraid of being criticized when you go out? Qi Zhifang, you're not even human! Get out of here!"
Qi Zhifang burst into tears. "What's wrong with just wearing a piece of clothing? Am I guilty? Can you please be reasonable? I went to the Northeast, it was so difficult, but I still managed without your subsidies, didn't I? Who did I rely on?"
Mother Qi was so angry her chest ached. She suddenly remembered what that little rascal Zhao Aiguo had said: "Let me tell you, old lady, whether a woman argues with her family or tries to reason with them, if you can't win the argument, that's no big deal. Just bring up old grievances." "Anyway, you'll outlive them; you can bring them down with your old grievances."
Looking coldly at Qi Zhifang, who felt uneasy under her gaze, Qi's mother suddenly laughed. "Why did you go to the Northeast? Wasn't it because you were so desperate for a man that you wouldn't even spare a convict? As soon as you got paid, you ran there, got caught, and I even had to endure three days of public criticism with you. And you have the nerve to ask us for subsidies? Your brother, sister-in-law, and your own son have all been forced to sweep the streets because of you, each receiving only 15 yuan for living expenses. Your own son has to support himself and his sister who's still in school with that 15 yuan! How dare you say that? You shameless person, get out of here! You've ruined our family! Your father was driven to his death by you, and we lost our nice house. Get out of here..."
He then used a combination of pushing and shoving to coax Qi Zhifang out, only then did he feel a little better.
Qi Zhifang nearly died of anger, the shame she had deliberately forgotten welling up inside her! She murmured, "So you all blame me, even for these things. No one understands me. I misjudged you all..."
