The turmoil in the Zhao family has passed, and things have returned to normal. Zhao Aiguo has officially started his work life.
He felt he was living a very good life, even better than at school. The leaders didn't use the car very often, maybe once or twice every ten days or so. The rest of the time he could just play around in the office, doing whatever he wanted—eating when he was hungry, drinking when he was thirsty, and sleeping when he was tired. If he wanted to exercise, he could play basketball; if he wanted to attend a class, he could just sneak into the classroom.
Because he was handsome and presentable, the leaders treated him well, and even the cafeteria ladies would give him extra food.
Today, he drove his Jeep to take his boss to a meeting. His boss asked him to pick him up in the afternoon, so he hurriedly drove back to his workplace. At noon, the cafeteria was serving stewed chicken, and the cafeteria lady had told him in advance to save a chicken leg for him so he wouldn't be late and miss his lunch.
On the way, Zhao Aiguo saw Li Qiuxiang riding her bicycle and slowed down, saying in a cheeky tone, "Sister Qiuxiang, are you pedaling hard? I really envy you, exercising every day."
Li Qiuxiang turned around and looked at Zhao Aiguo, who looked quite dashing. "This guy's gotten even more handsome," she thought. A pang of envy rose in her heart, but she said happily, "You're already on the job? I must say, you actually look quite handsome after all this styling."
Zhao Aiguo said smugly, "Just average handsome!"
As Li Qiuxiang pedaled her bike, she said, "I remember when I first started working and treated everyone to a meal, you ate two and a half pounds of my potstickers. No way, you have to treat me to a meal today."
Zhao Aiguo parked the car and said with a smile, "Is that all? Come on in, I'll treat you to a meal at our company cafeteria. You're in luck, we have stewed chicken today!"
Li Qiuxiang stopped and said unwillingly, "You got off easy, kid."
Zhao Aiguo secured the bicycle, and Li Qiuxiang sat on it, curiously touching everything around. "Wow, this is my first time riding a jeep! Thanks to you!"
Zhao Aiguo chuckled and didn't seem to mind. After parking the car at the company, he took Li Qiuxiang to his office. Li Qiuxiang's eyes widened in surprise. She knew this guy had good benefits, but she hadn't expected it to be this good—one office for each of them, complete with a sofa.
Li Qiuxiang plopped down on him, bouncing a bit; it was quite soft. She said, "How about it? You listened to your sister, didn't you? You're really lucky with this job! In a few years, you'll be able to find a good wife. Let me tell you, don't marry someone pretty but useless. You can't just look at someone's appearance in a marriage; ability is important too."
Zhao Aiguo blinked. "Sister Qiuxiang, isn't this a lesson taught by example?! What's wrong? Regretting finding a brother-in-law?"
Li Qiuxiang choked, damn it, this kid always brings up the most sensitive topics. She chuckled, "You can't say that. After all, it's pleasing to the eye. Men and women..." Seeing Zhao Aiguo's wide, inquisitive eyes, she changed the subject, "That's different, very different! Anyway, let me tell you, men can't just look at how good-looking a woman is when they're looking for someone. She also has to be older than you. Older women are more caring, really! Trust me."
"I'll introduce my sister-in-law to you when I have the chance. She's a really nice person. If you like her, then you'll be set for life! By the way, what kind of woman are you looking for?"
Zhao Aiguo blinked. He hadn't really thought about this question. He scratched his head and said, "It should be about the same size as my grandma, right?" He nodded and said, "Yes, it should be like my grandma."
Li Qiuxiang pursed her lips. She had thought Zhao Aiguo's grandmother must be a great beauty; otherwise, how could such a handsome boy be so infatuated with her? Sure enough! Rich, powerful, and handsome—they deserve to only date good-looking women, and their children can only be even more beautiful. She thought to herself that Wang Hong had no chance.
Zhao Aiguo glanced at his watch; it was almost time. "Sister Qiuxiang, wait for me! I'll go get the food."
"Give me more! I'm starving!" Li Qiuxiang said without any politeness.
Zhao Aiguo agreed and went to get his food. When he came back, he had borrowed another lunchbox from somewhere and took six steamed buns, a lunchbox of rice, a lunchbox of potatoes and chicken, a lunchbox of minced meat and eggplant, two salted duck eggs, and a tea mug filled halfway with cabbage, cowpeas, ginger, and pickled vegetables.
Zhao Aiguo put the food down and said, "One of our cafeteria chefs is from Sichuan. This pickled vegetable is amazing. I'm telling you, you can't get this kind of food anywhere else."
Li Qiuxiang pouted, "Don't try to fool me, I won't skimp on a single bite of this meat!"
She took a bite of chicken with her chopsticks and her eyes lit up. "This is so damn delicious!" She didn't even want to talk about the canteen at the machinery factory anymore. Her current workplace was even worse than pig swill, so she went home for lunch.
Zhao Aiguo chuckled and said, "Of course! Eat more if you like it. It's not that I'm stingy and won't treat you to a meal outside, it's just that nothing outside tastes as good as what our cafeteria chef makes."
The two enjoyed a delicious meal. After finishing, they chatted for a while. Zhao Aiguo yawned, took out his quilt and pillow from the closet, and said, "Sister Qiuxiang, you're about to go to work too! I won't see you off; I need to get some sleep."
Li Qiuxiang's eyes twitched with anger. This was incomparable, absolutely incomparable. She said irritably, "Fine! Go to sleep!" and then left.
Zhao Aiguo yawned, set his alarm, and then covered himself with the blanket to take a nap.
Li Qiuxiang rode her bike to Wei Dani's place. As soon as she entered, she saw Wei Dani half-closing her eyes and coaxing the already sleeping Jiang Yue. Seeing her come in, Wei Dani stood up and whispered, "Sister Qiuxiang? What brings you here!"
Li Qiuxiang sat down and said, "It's nothing, I just came from Aiguo's place."
Wei Dani became interested and sat down, saying, "How about it? I haven't seen him since he started working!"
Li Qiuxiang pursed her lips. "This guy is too attention-seeking. His workplace is good, and he even drives a Jeep. I wonder how many young girls he's charming. The food in the cafeteria is good too. I ate at his workplace today. Potato and chicken pieces, lots of chicken. Minced meat and eggplant, lots of minced meat. He even managed to snag two leftover salted duck eggs from this morning and some tea brewed by the chef himself."
