Chapter 6: A Stalemate

King Ragnar's face suddenly turned serious and not a pretty look.

He stood up again and continued, "Salton, take your soldiers to the front line now. I want you to see how vulnerable the Swadian soldiers are."

Ragnar waved his hand to signal Thordenjar to retreat.

Seeing that King Ragnar had made up his mind at this time, he knew he had no chance.

Maybe, that man is a liar, and we will win the war.

Thordenjar originally wanted King Ragnar to understand the strength of Swadia, and then let Ragnar find some talents who could defeat the Kingdom of Swadia, but now it seems impossible.

On the walls of Fort Reptile.

Edgars saw another flag in Ragnar's camp, so he had to be on guard again, but when he saw that there were only a few dozen people coming, he felt relieved.

"Now it seems that Ragnar's army has been assembled. There are more than a thousand people in total. We still don't know the exact number." Earl Craggs said beside Edgars.

"We have a total of 600 people, and these 600 people must hold on." Edgars said to Earl Craggs.

Hearing this, Earl Craggs could only sigh in his heart.

"Get ready for battle." Earl Craggs had no choice but to say this helplessly.

Ragnar's siege tower has been built. His engineer is a good technical talent. Hundreds of people worked together to build this siege tower. The siege tower, which would have taken several days, was built quickly.

Inside King Ragnar's tent.

"Your Majesty, we can attack the city now." Farrington, Ragnar's most loyal guard captain, said to his king.

"I wonder how your Majesty plans to arrange the siege." Hewitt came out and said at this time.

When Farrington saw this guy appear, a trace of disgust appeared in his heart. Farrington did not have much good feelings towards businessmen. Most of the businessmen he came into contact with were profit-driven, so he looked down on these businessmen.

This of course includes Hewitt, a businessman by profession.

A businessman also wants to participate in the war? Farrington muttered to himself.

Ragnar didn't say anything. He thought quietly for a few minutes. Hewitt felt strange. Didn't he think about the siege layout when he built the siege tower?

In fact, it was not that Ragnar was not prepared, but it was mainly because of what Thordenjar said that made King Ragnar feel that his arrangements had to be changed.

"Hewitt, you and Nisbett will serve as the vanguard and show my vassals the power of my army." King Ragnar said to Hewitt.

"Okay, Your Majesty, you will see our strength." Hewitt bowed respectfully to King Ragnar and then strode out.

"Your Majesty, why don't you want me to be the vanguard? Your Majesty, are you worried about my ability?" Farrington asked dissatisfiedly at this time.

"No, my dear Farrington, I have no doubt about your ability. I kindly let you be the vanguard mainly because I want you to do something more important." King Ragnar said mysteriously.

"So, your majesty, what do you want me to do?" Farrington asked puzzledly.

"You have to listen carefully to this matter."

On the wall of Fort Repole, Edgars, fully armed, stood on the wall holding his most important two-handed sword. This was the meteorite sword he obtained by chance. Legend has it that it was made of meteorite from the sky, but he really didn't know whether it was true or not. But it was true that it could cut iron like mud, otherwise, he would not hold this sword.

At this time, the army of the Nord Kingdom pushed the siege tower and slowly walked over. Near the siege tower were densely packed archers. The archers of the Nord Kingdom were not very powerful. Their most powerful were the infantry. Therefore, what Edgars had to be most wary of were the infantry.

He had ordered his soldiers to mainly attack the Nordic infantry and try to kill some of them when they began to prepare to climb to the top of the city wall.

Edgars's idea was good, but the Nord Kingdom's infantry division was the best infantry in the continent. They were brave and strong, and the armor they wore had extremely high defensive power. Not only was their defensive power strong, but the axes and swords in their hands could tell you that their offensive power was equally strong.

During this siege, the Nord Kingdom surrounded the entire castle. Except for a siege tower on the north side, the rest were ladders used for siege. The Nord Kingdom soldiers prepared to use these ladders to climb up to the Reptile Castle.

When the soldiers of both sides came into contact, both sides attacked with long-range weapons, the crossbows of Swadians and the bows of Nords.

Crossbows and bows kept firing in the sky above the castle.

In the rain of arrows, the siege tower was getting closer and closer. Among them, most of the soldiers were wearing the crow emblem, which meant that most of King Ragnar's soldiers were near the siege tower. Edgars had already placed the "Lion Fang Guard" on this side of the city wall. As long as he dealt a heavy blow to the enemies on this side, he could reduce the enemy's morale.

After a while, the Nord soldiers stopped shooting, and Edgars knew why. This was when the Nord infantry began to attack the city.

A group of Nord infantry carrying long ladders came like a tide. Most of them were soldiers of King Ragnar's vassals. They did not build siege towers, but simpler ladders. Although the ladders were simple, they were also very dangerous. Such ladders did not have sufficient protective properties and were easily destroyed.

But walking with a ladder is much faster than pushing a siege tower.

Soon, the soldiers who were carrying ladders behind the siege tower had already reached the city wall. After they put the ladders in place, they began to climb up swiftly.

"Everyone hold on," Edgars shouted, telling the Swadian soldiers to start defending.

A group of Swadian soldiers armed with swords and spears used whatever means they could to push these Nord soldiers off the ladder.

They wanted to push the ladders down. These ladders were simple to make and could be pushed down easily, but the soldiers of the Nord Kingdom were not vegetarians.

Their strong physical strength quickly allowed them to climb halfway up the ladder. They held the ladder tightly, and a single soldier could not push the ladder at all. It can be seen that they were eager for victory.
