Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Qin Huai refused to eat this bowl of dog food and left the group chat.

After acting like a spoiled child, Chen Huanong pretended to be weak and continued to lie down. Tang Chengting saw through her little tricks very thoroughly, "I'm only on a business trip for a week, and you've already put yourself in the hospital. When will you let me feel at ease?"

Oh, I'm already this sick, and you still dare to blame me, Tang Chengting, you really have a lot of skills! Perhaps it's because illness makes people lose their willpower. Chen Huanong's heart became unprecedentedly arrogant, thinking that he was a patient after all, and he couldn't beat this normal person. "If you hadn't cut off the water at home, I wouldn't have caught a cold! What do you mean I'm torturing myself? It's your fault, okay?"

"Speaking of which, why are you showering past three in the morning?"

"There's no law that says I can't take a shower in the middle of the night, right?" She turned sideways and covered herself with the quilt, her voice muffled, a bit angry and a bit coquettish. Tang Chengting was silent for a while and only let out a long sigh.

Chen Huanong was discharged from the hospital over the weekend. When he got home, he saw his parents sitting upright on the sofa in his house. He was so frightened that he almost had to be hospitalized again. "Why did you two come here without even saying hello? Who are you trying to scare to death?"

"I have to apply in advance to come to your house now, right?" Mother Chen was famous throughout the village for her sharp tongue when she was young. Even in her old age, her abilities have not diminished at all. She is as relentless as ever when it comes to scolding her daughter. "If I hadn't heard from Cheng Ting that you were sick and in the hospital, I wouldn't have come to trouble you!"

"Oh, what's wrong with you? You're not the one who cooks." When Mother Chen said this, Chen Huanong seemed to smell a familiar aroma from the kitchen. She hummed a tune happily and went to the kitchen to check. Sure enough, there was stewing her favorite pig stomach and chicken. Then she jumped back and tugged at her father's arm and shook him, "Dad, you're still the best."

Upon hearing this, Mother Chen rolled her eyes again. "I went to the market this morning to pick up the pig's stomach, and I asked your uncle to catch the chicken for me. Your dad just packed it up and threw it into the pot, and now all the credit goes to him!"

"Oh my god, please don't be so aggressive all the time. I'm still a patient and can't stand your bombardment! If you say anything more, I'll have a headache." Chen Huanong had a family hereditary neurotic migraine. When she was in her twenties, she often couldn't sleep due to the pain. Her mother didn't dare to let her take too many painkillers, and took great pains to make medicated food for her. Later, she gradually got better, but there was a rule in the doctor's order not to be overly emotional, which caused Chen's mother to never dare to say anything to Chen Huanong again. Chen Huanong would just say, "I have a little headache," and everything would be fine.

In the evening, Father Chen and Tang Chengting had a couple of drinks. Father Chen was usually taciturn, but after drinking he became more talkative. He said to Tang Chengting, "Our daughter is small but has a bad temper. She does things carelessly and without any sense of proportion. You will have to be more tolerant when living with her. Thank you for your hard work, Xiao Tang."

Tang Chengting returned the toast with a sincere attitude, "That's natural. Husband and wife should tolerate and understand each other. Hua Nong also tolerates me a lot."

Chen Xiaohua nodded as she gnawed on a chicken leg, thinking that this was reasonable. Before they got married, her family was always worried that she wouldn't be able to get married due to her bad temper, or that even if she did get married, she would inevitably end up in divorce. They were very worried. "God knows what I'm talking about, Dad. I've been very good to him. He married me because of the good deeds done by our ancestors, okay?"

"Your father and I are not such shameless people. How could we give birth to someone like you? Maybe the hospital picked up the wrong baby. Aren't you ashamed of being so narcissistic?" Mother Chen hated to see her daughter being so cocky. Whenever this happened, she would definitely give her a blow to show her common sense that the devil is one foot taller than the god.

"Mom, before Tang Chengting and I got married, you were on my side. Why are you protecting him now? You'll lose your daughter if you keep doing this."

"Before we got married, he was an outsider. After we got married, he became family. Of course, we have to treat each other equally. And it's true that Xiao Tang took care of you the most. Your impulsive personality is also thanks to Xiao Tang's maturity and stability."

Chen Huanong glanced at Tang Chengting, who was smiling, and felt like thousands of alpacas were stepping on her heart. What does it mean that Xiao Tang takes care of you more? What does it mean that Xiao Tang is mature and steady? My God, you haven't seen Director Tang when he is acting like a child! Chen Huanong felt that this world was really incomprehensible. It was obviously her who served Tang Chengting three meals a day, and it was obviously her who patiently coaxed Tang Chengting over and over again. It was obviously her who worried about this family, but why did it all turn around with her parents, and they also felt the same way in their circle of friends. Chen Huanong glared at her husband unwillingly, and couldn't help but sigh that Tang Chengting was really too sinister!

Chen's parents, concerned about the flowers and plants in their home and a golden retriever named Gungun, refused to let him stay overnight. Chen Huanong took advantage of this and started howling, "What kind of world is this? I'm not even as good as a dog, am I? I'm not his biological child, am I?"

Mother Chen patted her butt gently, "I raised you like this even though you're not my biological child! Try raising a child of your own someday, and you'll find that their fate will be half as short as yours!"

"Luckily you're half as tall as you were. At this rate, you shouldn't have any problem living to seventy or eighty. If you weren't half as tall, you'd have to live to be over a hundred. You'd be all alone by then, and how lonely you'd be!"

Mother Chen once again silently reflected on why she gave birth to such a thing. She slammed the entrance door shut and decided that she didn't want to see this unfilial daughter for a month.

Chen Huanong watched her parents leave through the peephole at the entrance. Tang Chengting's warm hand rested on her head, gently using it to turn her body. A faint scent of alcohol wafted from him. Chen Huanong tilted her head back, their eyes met, and she fell defenselessly into his starry gaze...

Tang Chengting carried her horizontally into the bedroom. The man, who had just recovered from a serious illness, still had a faint blush on his face, which made him quite alluring. Tang Chengting suddenly felt like teasing her, leaning over and gently biting her neck. Chen Huanong had been thinking about settling scores today, but after being teased by him, she forgot everything and couldn't help but moan. Her will became increasingly confused, and she could only surrender everything to her honest body. It was rare for them to be so unrestrained. Director Tang had always been restrained in matters between men and women, even more gentlemanly than at other times. At this moment, Director Tang was so proactive that Chen Huanong was powerless to resist.

When Chen Huanong woke up the next day, Director Tang had already gone to work. Not to mention settling the score, she'd even lost herself. Chen Huanong was incredibly frustrated, and even when she got to the law firm, she was still muttering, "Tang Chengting and her are just not compatible. They're just not compatible at all." Qin Huai looked at her with disdain, "Is that so? Then why did I see that certain nagging woman acting so spoiledly earlier? Is it because my eyes are blurring out?"

"It could also be glaucoma or cataracts. Go to the hospital and get checked out right away. If you don't have money, I can lend it to you. Don't be grateful. I'm just a kind person."

Even though Qin Huai was used to Chen Huanong's style of doing things, he was unwilling to look at his partner any longer. He picked up his bag and slammed the door and left, leaving Chen Huanong and the little assistant clicking their tongues behind him. Chen Huanong disliked Qin Huai's bad temper, and the little assistant reminded her that it was always Qin Huai who made people angry.

The two chatted for a while before starting to deal with the previously accumulated work. The assistant sorted out all the case materials that were about to go to court and placed them on the desk. Chen Huanong hugged her and was extremely moved. "If it weren't for you, how would I live? I really love you so much."

"Chen Lu, let's be more reserved. After all, you are a married woman, and I am still unmarried."

"It's okay. You're a bachelor anyway. Reputation is just an external thing. Don't worry about it."

Although the assistant didn't want to admit it, Chen Huanong's logic seemed flawless. However, as a qualified paralegal, she had to be argumentative. "Just because I'm not married now doesn't mean I'll stick to it in the future. What if I meet Mr. Right?"

"Please ask for your reputation to be restored. I will then sue all those who spread rumors about you in court and ask for compensation for emotional damage as your dowry. Don't be too moved. I'm just that considerate."

If it weren't for the fact that the man in front of her paid her a salary, the young assistant really wanted to beat her up. She knew the rules of propriety, integrity, and restraint, which were obviously unknown to her lawyer Chen. However, this did not prevent Chen Huanong from becoming a capable lawyer.

A capable lawyer always says only what she wants to say. She concealed her history of defeat in which she was completely eaten up and only accused Tang Chengting of not swiping the water card in time, which directly led to her cold, further proving how important it is to be in power at home.

The assistant spoke with great enthusiasm, and the interns listened with gusto. Compared to Chen Huanong's career history, the interns felt that her marriage history was more interesting. This interest lies in the fact that although you once thought she was in the clouds, she actually has her own mundane joys and sorrows. She is not a character imagined by anyone, nor a species defined by anyone. She is a real person with her own emotions. No matter the multiple identities given to her by the outside world, in front of a specific person, she is just Chen Huanong.

On Monday morning, when the intern handed the photo to Chen Huanong, Qin Huai was reviewing the materials nearby. He caught sight of the figure in the photo and immediately stood up and snatched it away, with a look of deep regret. "You're really using every possible means to avoid a divorce."

She flipped through the photos one by one and said angrily, "Look, does Tang Chengting want a divorce? I tell you, he's calculated your temper and has you under his control. That's why he won't divorce me!"

"Why did he make such a fuss if he didn't want a divorce? First he sent the agreement, as if he knew you wouldn't sign it, and then he sent Zhang Xingyan to file the case. A few days ago, Jiang Ting saw me and asked if the Chen Huanong who wanted a divorce was the Chen Huanong from Shensong. Wasn't Lawyer Chen still married? Now the whole court knows you're getting divorced! Tell me, there was almost no noise when you got married, but now the whole district knows about your divorce." Qin Huai grew angrier and angrier. "This Tang Chengting is such a piece of shit! Isn't this telling everyone you're getting a second marriage?"

Chen Huanong came early in the morning, and before her morning grumpiness had dissipated, she had to listen to Qin Huai nagging like an old woman. She really wanted to knock him out with a stick. "First of all, I'm not divorced yet, so I'm not remarrying. Secondly, even if I did get divorced, whether Tang Chengting said it or not, it's a fact that I've been married before. If I get married again in the future, I can't hide it from others."

"As for whether he wants a divorce or why he's making such a big fuss, those are not my concerns. Qin Huai, I just want the result I want!"

"Then you have to tell me why he's going through all this trouble. Zhang Xingyan has already cheated me out of two meals, and I haven't gotten anything out of him. I can see that Zhang Xingyan doesn't understand the situation either."

Chen Huanong felt a headache. In recent years, she had been increasingly unable to understand Tang Chengting, or perhaps she was increasingly tired of trying to figure out his mindset. "I don't know if Lao Zhao has met him, but Lao Zhao must have passed a message to him through someone. As for what it was, only the two of them know. Now that Tang Chengting hasn't brought it up with me, I naturally won't ask."

"You went to see Old Zhao." Based on Qin Huai's understanding of Chen Huanong, she should have gone to find someone to blame as soon as something happened. Otherwise, she wouldn't even mention it. She never made any rash judgments about things she wasn't sure about. "What do you mean, Old Zhao?"

"Crazy." Chen Huanong didn't really want to talk about Zhao Liangqi. From the moment they broke up, Zhao Liangqi and she were two different types of people. She always made a clear distinction between them: one was her own people, and the other was others. In the absence of any interest relationship, she never felt that she needed to waste time on others, even for a simple conversation.

Seeing that she looked unhappy, Qin Huai didn't ask any more questions. He put the photo away in his briefcase and prepared to leave. The moment he opened the door, he almost bumped into the assistant who rushed over. "What's the matter? Why are you in such a hurry? Did you get mugged?"

Qin Huai had only been joking, but he hadn't anticipated the real trouble that would be worse than a robbery. The assistant didn't have time to interrupt Qin Huai and rushed straight to Chen Huanong, briefly and clearly explaining the events and their consequences. Qin Huai turned and walked to the window to look down. Sure enough, there was a huge crowd.

The assistant looked at Chen Huanong, her expressionless face, unsure whether to call her calm or resolute. Fortunately, Director Xu had previously instructed her, so she immediately grabbed her clothes and bag and led her outside. "Lawyer Chen, please use the fire escape in the back. You definitely won't be able to get out from the front. I'll drive your car to the square in front. Director Xu will handle this matter, and the Justice Bureau will also be involved. Please don't come to the station for the time being. I'll organize the case materials and send them to you for your review. Don't worry."
