Chapter 17 You Believe It or Not, I'll Tear Your Mouth Apart! (1/2)

Lin's mother was flattered and overwhelmed by the praise she received.

After marrying Mr. Lin, she stayed at home to take care of her husband and children, managing the household in an orderly manner. Although her family usually said her cooking was delicious, she gladly accepted it. Now that someone is praising her to her face, how could she not be flattered?

As He Meifang ate the shredded radish in her mouth, she watched Lin Yuxi and her mother's eyes light up and couldn't help but sigh, "This is just a pickled vegetable. If it were any other dish, the taste would be heavenly!"

"Auntie, you're too modest." She praised him without any reservation.

Originally, He Meifang thought the cornbread and potatoes were bland, but now she ate several more.

Lin Yuxi sat beside He Meifang, listening to her praise of Lin's mother, and she was also happy.

He Meifang understood that one is obligated to accept gifts and favors, so since the other party didn't want the potatoes, she added one more work point to Lin Yuxi's work points in her notebook.

Seeing that lunch was finished, He Meifang didn't want to stay any longer and risk being misunderstood. "Auntie, thank you. You can rest here for a while. I'll go take a look elsewhere."

The sun was blazing.

There were plenty of shady spots on both sides of the wheat field, but some of the grass on the ground had dried up.

"Shufen, your mung bean soup is really delicious." Aunt Gu took a sip; it was sweet and refreshing on this scorching day. "It's also ice-cold, even better than an ice pop."

Unlike other women who wore two braids, Aunt Gu cut all her hair short, leaving her with ear-length hair.

Hearing the praise, Lin's mother attributed all the credit to her daughter, "Xixi put it in the jar all night last night, and it's just the right amount to drink today. It's probably warmed up by now."

Lin Yuxi tilted her head back and took a sip of mung bean soup. It had been refrigerated overnight and was indeed delicious.

"You are so lucky to have such a precious daughter."

"You're the same, sis. Xiao Gu may not talk much, but he's reliable and hardworking."

The two women sat there and began to flatter each other.

The lunch break is one hour long, and eating in the fields does save time for resting.

"It's almost time, so you can sit a little longer. I'll head over now." Aunt Gu picked up the kettle, patted her bottom, and walked over.

Actually, the group was all in the same circle, not far apart, but after the wheat was harvested, the space became a bit more open.

Grandpa Lin and Grandma Lin are getting old, almost seventy years old. If they were to harvest five rows of wheat a day, they probably wouldn't be able to get up for a day.

So the two elderly people cut one row in the morning and another row in the afternoon, earning work points, doing labor, and receiving a share of the grain.

Lin Yuxi tied the sickle with cloth, walked down into the wheat field, and was about to cut the wheat when a hand took the sickle from her.

"Gu Chen?"

"Um."

Sweat was still streaming down the man's face, which was so close to hers; his back was completely soaked. She looked at him with some surprise. "What are you doing?"

The two of them squatted in the wheat field.

Gu Chen acted as if he hadn't heard what she said, looked down at Lin Yuxi's red hands, and said, "I'll help you cut the wheat. Go sit under the tree, it'll be cooler there."

"That won't do, after all, it's my mission."
