Chapter 21 Evidence? The meat in your kitchen is the evidence! (1/2)

Zhao Xiaotong's pupils trembled slightly, her heart pounded like a drum, but she put on a suspicious look, "Really? Are you sure you didn't smell it wrong?"

A sense of tension welled up inside her, and she dug her nails into her palms. It was the perfect time for cooking; Lin Yuxi's family must be preparing meat.

"Did you smell it wrong? Didn't you smell it? No one has left the village recently, and there's no supply and marketing cooperative in the village. It's too hot to store meat, so how could you smell it wrong?" Zhu Fengru was immediately a little unhappy. Was Zhao Xiaotong saying that she had a dog's nose?

Didn't she smell the wonderful aroma?

"Fengru, I'm sorry, I've had a bit of a cold these past few days, so I couldn't smell anything. Let me smell it carefully." Zhao Xiaotong pretended to smell it carefully, as if she wanted to drag Zhu Fengru directly to Lin Yuxi's house to see if there was any meat in the pot.

"It does seem to have a certain flavor."

Zhu Fengru felt her mouth constantly watering because the taste was so tempting.

Her gaze unconsciously fell on the mud-brick house.

But then I thought, if we live in mud-brick houses, how could we possibly afford to eat meat?

But the strong smell of meat was coming from the mud-brick house. Zhu Fengru pulled Zhao Xiaotong forward, saying, "Xiaotong, let's go take a look."

“Fengru, but… they are capitalists who were sent down to the countryside, and they have many families. Is it really appropriate for us to go up like this?” Zhao Xiaotong stopped in time, pulled her along, and persuaded her.

"What are you afraid of? What's wrong with taking a look?" Zhu Fengru pulled the person forward, her mouth watering.

Inside the adobe house.

Actually, the kitchen is right inside the house, and the smell of cooking oil is pungent as soon as you enter. The door is closed tightly, but it can't stop the aroma of meat from wafting out.

The closer you are, the stronger the aroma becomes.

Lin Yuxi was in the kitchen watching her mother cook. She explained each step to her mother using her theoretical knowledge.

"Mom, leave some oil in the pan first, then put the ribs in and fry them until golden brown on both sides."

"Then chop some scallions, ginger, and garlic and set them aside."

"The ribs can be taken out, and then put back in to fry again. This will reduce the amount of oil in the ribs."

Lin Yuxi directed her mother to cook, and the aroma of the food cooked in the large iron pot filled the kitchen, especially the fried pork ribs.

"Put in cumin powder, chili powder, Sichuan peppercorns, and white sesame seeds and stir-fry. Don't forget the scallions, ginger, and garlic. Once it's stir-fried, it's ready."

"The remaining oil can be used to stir-fry some vegetables."

She had taken this bucket of oil from Zhuang Zhenhua's house, but to avoid suspicion, she put it in a small jar.

A plate of spare ribs is ready; it looks, smells, and tastes delicious.

Lin Yuxi had already inquired about the price of pork at the supply and marketing cooperative that day. Pork ribs were 45 cents a pound. In those days, lean meat and bones were the least popular because bones were not cost-effective and lean meat had no oil, so ribs and lean meat were relatively cheap.

Outside, Zhu Fengru and Zhao Xiaotong had already found the kitchen door.

"Bang!"
