After eating, I didn't rush to ride my bicycle; a walk would help digestion.
The state-run restaurant is quite close to where the movies are being shown; you can walk there without riding a bicycle, in about ten minutes.
As night deepened, Lin Yuxi and her group finally arrived at the open-air movie theater. Tickets were required to enter, one ticket per person. A huge screen was set up in the middle of the square, and some people were already impatient and scrambled to occupy the prime front-row seats.
The square was packed with people and very lively, filled with the sound of whispers.
"No need to sit too far in the middle, let's sit on the side, it won't be so crowded when we leave later." Gu Chen looked at the seats and chose a seat in the middle or back.
The benches here were moved from other factories; they're much better than sitting cross-legged on the ground—they don't get so hot on your bottom.
Lin Yuxi chose a seat next to him and sat down. There was no one next to her, so she avoided passing by. Xiao Xuejun had disappeared somewhere and grabbed a handful of watermelon seeds, placing them in Gu Chen's hand.
Gu Chen placed a handful in Lin Yuxi's hand.
At six o'clock sharp, the lights in the square turned on, and points of light flashed on the screen. Then, a voice rang out from the loudspeaker.
It was Lin Yuxi's first time watching an open-air movie, and she was quite interested, watching with great enjoyment.
The faint sounds of people cracking sunflower seeds and children's voices could be heard from the surrounding area. After the movie started, the entire square became mostly quiet.
The lines in the movie were delivered with great passion and fervor, eliciting gasps of surprise from those around them.
With a "thud".
Suddenly, the lights went out, and then the images on the screen disappeared, plunging the scene into darkness and chaos in the square.
"Huh? What happened? Why can't I see anything?"
"Is there a power outage? Quick, check if there's a power outage. I just came back from the bathroom, and now I'm doomed, I can't see anything at all."
"Stay where you are, everyone. I'll fix it right away, it'll be done in a bit."
Lin Yuxi looked up and around; it was pitch black.
The night breeze, carrying a coolness, gently brushed against my face.
Whether it was her imagination or the panic she felt at that moment, she had a feeling that Gu Chen was watching her, as if a subtle attention was floating in the curtain of night, making her unable to help but pay attention.
Immediately afterwards, Gu Chen's hand seemed to reach out and touch her with his fingertips. His movements were gentle, like a feather, as if he were confirming whether she was still there.
Lin Yuxi felt her breathing slow down, her fingers curled slightly, and she hurriedly tried to move her hand away, but Gu Chen quickly grabbed it.
"Gu Chen?"
A warm touch came from the back of her hand. The palm covering her hand was a little rough. The man's fingertips slowly moved down and rubbed against her slightly hot palm. Her fingertips were enveloped by his palm. He tightened his grip slightly and then loosened it a little.
"It's just a power outage, it'll be fine in a bit," he suddenly said, his voice deep yet warm.
Lin Yuxi gripped her other hand tightly to hide her nervousness, and lowered her gaze. "Mm."
A soft laugh seemed to come from the side, and almost at the same time, a soft halo of light emanated from the end. Lin Yuxi looked up, and Gu Chen also looked up and stared straight at her.
Lin Yuxi hadn't expected the two of them to be looking at each other so closely. Her eyes widened slightly, and the wind blew the wisps of hair on the man's forehead. In the inky black night, she looked into his black eyes, which seemed to be filled with starlight.
Gu Chen lowered his eyes, looking at the hands in his palm. The noise drowned out the sound of his heart beating. The night, which was originally cool and breezy, suddenly became hot.
