Chapter 4: The raid on the house was fruitless; there wasn't a single thing to gain. (2/2)

Outside the courtyard, the neighbors who had gathered around had already spread the word that Grandpa Lin was an inside agent, and the news was quite a stir.

The sounds inside the room were deafening; even the walls had been smashed, as if afraid of missing any hidden compartments. The scale of the attack was immense, which was itself a form of humiliation.

The man named Liu Zi looked at the door and then at the locks of several rooms. He whispered in Dong Wei's ear, "Brother, these locks have indeed been pried open, and things have been stolen."

"Zhuang Zhenhua's house was also robbed. All the pots and pans were gone, and even the shoes were taken. I heard that even the bed was missing."

Dong Wei frowned, his face grim.

This morning, he was about to leave home when his car wouldn't start. His hand got stuck to the door handle, and it took a lot of effort to get it off. The car's wiring was burned, and his dog started biting him as soon as it saw him. If he hadn't run fast and climbed out of the yard, he would have almost been bitten by the dog.

Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that his house had also been burgled, even the refrigerator was gone, and what was even more infuriating was that the entire cabinet of gold bars in his study was missing!

In previous years, after his house was raided, he replaced all the items with gold bars to avoid being implicated. There were also many account books in the cabinet.

A surge of anger seemed to rise in his chest. Could it be that Zhuang Zhenhua had taken the Lin family's things and then staged a whole drama?

He originally thought he could take advantage of the situation to make some money, but he ended up losing both his wife and his army.

"Boss, come here for a second!"

A man shouted, beckoning Dong Wei to come inside.

"Keep an eye on them."

Lin's mother hugged Lin Yuxi tightly. "Yuxi, were you scared?"

"Mom, I'm fine." Lin Yuxi shook her head and, feeling her mother's trembling body, reached out and patted her back.

On the surface, they didn't take anything with them, but in reality, she stored all the important things in her spatial storage. If she left nothing behind, people would suspect that they had hidden things, and they would interrogate them day and night. In any case, she would not let them go to the countryside. So she left some valuable things behind.

Outside the courtyard, there was a cacophony of noise, and the words that came out of their mouths were increasingly jarring.

Grandpa Lin straightened his back, gritted his teeth, and stood firmly in place without moving an inch.

Inside the house.

Dong Wei looked at the three boxes and, without thinking, pried open the locks.

“Boss, it really was pried out from under the floorboards. I guess the thief didn’t notice it last night. But neither of us touched the box.” Liu Zi quickly raised his hand to prove his innocence.

Dong Wei didn't answer. He frowned as he looked at the pile of tattered socks and clothes inside. Just as he was about to curse, a necklace and a few exquisite boxes containing diamonds fell out of the clothes.

"How come this old guy only has a thousand yuan?"

one thousand?

Liu Zi gasped. He only earned twenty yuan a month. How many years would it take him to earn a thousand?

"Who is this Wang Mazi? This is a five-hundred-yuan note, and this old guy lent it out without even blinking an eye?"

"How did this Shi Hao borrow 856.47 yuan?"

"Boss, look at this. Ye Qiu only borrowed two thousand yuan!"

There were more than ten scattered IOUs, totaling a full ten thousand yuan. Dong Wei gasped in surprise. No wonder Zhuang Zhenhua was envious. He was also envious of this little bastard.

He then pulled out several large IOUs and put them in his pocket. "Go check other places to see if there are any from before. The Lin family were capitalists who did business and owned factories in their early years. They have more than just this much wealth."
