Chapter 91 Preparing for the College Entrance Examination (1/2)

The Lunar New Year is approaching.

Gu Chen also got a rare break.

Today I specially accompanied Lin Yuxi to the street to buy New Year's goods, and then we took a stroll outside.

“The New Year is coming soon. Even though there are only a few of us here, we still need to have the festive atmosphere. How about we hang a few red lanterns at the gate of the courtyard?” Gu Chen supported her with one hand and put his arm around her with the other. He walked very carefully, afraid that the road would be slippery.

Lin Yuxi walked slowly and smiled, "Buying two is enough. Don't you find it disgusting to hang up several?"

"This year is different. We have one more, so we can hang two more, for good luck and prosperity," Gu Chen explained.

Lin Yuxi was helpless.

The two walked out of the residential compound, and there was a market nearby that sold some small items.

The road wasn't far, and Gu Chen was worried about the bumpy ride on his bicycle. Besides, Lin Yuxi had been cooped up at home for quite a while, so they decided to just go out for a walk.

"Oh, by the way, give her a red envelope for Chinese New Year this year. If you're inviting Sister Cuiping over for dinner, remember to give her son a red envelope too," Lin Yuxi said suddenly after walking around.

Gu Chen nodded. "You're right, I'll listen to you."

He pulled her closer to him. The weather had been quite dry these past few days, and it hadn't snowed, but the cold wind was a bit chilly. In the end, he wrapped his scarf around Lin Yuxi's head.

"Don't let the wind blow on your face, look, your nose is all red. I'll buy you a hat later."

During the Spring Festival, He Cuiping originally wanted to go back to her hometown to bring her mother-in-law over, but her mother-in-law didn't want to come. The place was small, and she wasn't used to it, so there wasn't enough room for her. Therefore, she sent some things over and didn't come.

Lin Yuxi and He Cuiping were already close and often visited each other. After she and Gu Chen finished shopping, they happened to see He Cuiping coming over with her son.

“Sister, you’re back? Perfect timing! I was just talking to my aunt about how the New Year is coming soon. Come to our house for dinner on the 25th of the twelfth lunar month.” He Cuiping held Lin Yuxi’s hand, full of joy, and then glanced down at her belly. “You’ll be giving birth in a few months, right? It won’t be summer yet, so it won’t be hot. The timing will be perfect.”

Lin Yuxi nodded. "Yes, the due date is in May, when it won't be hot yet."

"That's only a few months away. Prepare the children's clothes in advance so you can wash and dry them. If you're too busy, I'll help you."

Before we knew it, it was already the 25th day of the twelfth lunar month.

Lin Yuxi and her family decided to have their meal on the 26th of the twelfth lunar month, so that the two families could avoid eating at the same time.

Political Commissar Wang originally wanted to invite more people, but He Cuiping shut him down with a single sentence.

"If you want to invite more people, then you can cook the meal yourself and invite as many tables as you want."

With just one sentence from her, Political Commissar Wang was speechless. Especially after He Cuiping learned to read, she spent every day reading books while holding her child, and he became increasingly afraid to talk back.

"You watch the fire, I'll go call the girls over for dinner. Son, could you take the drinks out of the cabinet?"

The two families lived close by, and it would have been enough for them to just call out from outside the courtyard, but He Cuiping went to their door in person to invite them.

Jiang Shufen helped carry the New Year's gift boxes to the door, and Gu Chen supported Lin Yuxi, not wanting to take his eyes off her for even a second.

"Come in and sit down, sit on the sofa. I'll get you a cushion to lean on." He Cuiping wiped her hands and quickly went to the bedroom to get a pillow for Lin Yuxi to lean against.

Jiang Shufen placed the gift box she was holding on the coffee table.

"What else did you bring? Auntie, please don't come in. The kitchen is smoky, and the food will be ready soon." He Cuiping wouldn't let Jiang Shufen help. After all, they were guests, and how could she let them into the kitchen?
