Chapter 18 The only intimate contact was when he put his arm around her waist (2/2)

The girl's palms were bright red and slightly swollen.

Gu Chen breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, it wasn't serious. He quickly took the stool and placed it under the eaves.

"You can have the soda, I'll open it for you."

Lin Yuxi tilted her head slightly, the wisps of hair beside her ear fluttering in the wind. "I don't like sweet drinks, you drink it."

This was given to her by the train attendant; it was her last bottle, and she wouldn't have any more soda to drink after that.

Gu Chen sat at the door for about half an hour. A cool breeze lingered in the room, and his agitated mood finally calmed down.

Inside the house, Lin Yuxi opened the door. She soaked the mung beans in water and then took out a piece of meat from her space. The refrigerator she had taken from Dong Wei's house was full of frozen meat. She wondered how long the kid had been hoarding goods to fill the refrigerator. But then she thought, she had already bought a car, so what did a refrigerator and meat matter?

As for Zhuang Zhenhua?

There's no rush.

They should be the ones worried right now, since the safe is still in her hands.

Lin Yuxi checked the time; it was exactly five o'clock. Her mother had already returned, and since they were going to eat soon, someone would definitely have to come back early to cook. She quickly washed her hands, and since there was still some hot water left over, she dried herself off and changed into some dry clothes.

In just five minutes, Aunt Gu came over carrying a basket.

"Shufen, I have a lot of potatoes and some leafy greens at home. What do you want to make tonight? I'll help you."

Aunt Gu put down a full basket, which contained more than ten pounds of potatoes and several green vegetables, and went into the kitchen chatting and laughing.

Inside the courtyard.

A row of bamboo poles appeared along the edge of the once bare yard. Gu Chen cut four or five bamboo poles and used them to enclose the yard.

It was almost six o'clock. Many people had finished work early today and dragged their tired bodies back home. They were surprised to find that the weeds in front of Gu Chen's old house had been cleared and a pile of bamboo had been added to the originally bare yard.

"When did people start living here? I've been so busy these past few days that I haven't even noticed."

“There are no houses left in the village. This room belongs to Gu Chen’s family, so it must have been rented to the new family.”

Behind them was Zhao Xiaotong, who was exhausted. She had been harvesting wheat for ten days straight, and she felt like she couldn't even lift her arms.

I'm so busy and tired every day, I don't have time to pay attention to which household is in which house.

But when she heard that it was a newcomer, she still perked up and went to see.

Not far away, Gu Chen was busy repairing the yard, but why was the village chief's wife there as well?

Zhao Xiaotong walked forward. She didn't receive this kind of treatment when she moved in. She cleaned the house herself. Now that it's Lin Yuxi's turn to move, why should they help her?

A strong sense of injustice welled up inside her, and as she got closer, a rich aroma of meat wafted out from the mud-brick house.

This smells just like braised pork!

How can there be braised pork belly?!

Zhao Xiaotong's nose twitched, and her stomach felt even hungrier. The grain she had brought to the field that morning had fallen to the ground and was covered in mud, so she hadn't eaten it and had thrown it away. Now she was starving, and she kept swallowing, glancing towards the kitchen.

"Zhao Xiaotong, it's already past six o'clock. Why aren't you going home to cook? What are you doing standing here?"
