Chapter 373 The Real Story

Everything in the dream was under Yu Ruo's control; she split her soul into three parts.

One portion for Xiaoyu, one portion for Aruo, and one portion for the sea monster.

Essentially, these three beings are all Yuruo, but from different periods.

Xiaoyu is an unmarried girl, Aru is a married woman, and the sea monster represents the final outcome.

If the sea goddess Yu was neither human nor merman, she would have become an ugly sea monster, guarding the misty sea for many years.

For some reason, Yu Ruo pulled her into a dream.

Lin Xi had read the story twice and already guessed the truth.

In the second dream, Canglin was no longer the sea god, and Xiaoyu married him as she wished.

Yu Ruo wanted simple happiness.

Dreams are always the opposite of reality, and the real ending is very tragic. Therefore, Yu Ruo weaves beautiful dreams to trap herself.

Lin Xi sighed and walked over there.

The sea monster lay on the ground, barely alive, with Canglin guarding her side, unleashing a powerful force to prevent anyone from approaching.

"Get out of the way! All of you, get out of the way!!"

Little Water was hit and flew into the sky in a parabolic arc, crying out, "Master, help!!"

Lin Xi caught him with one hand, "Do you still like Cang Lin?"

"He actually hit me, he doesn't love me anymore." Xiao Shui clutched her chest and squatted in a corner, feeling depressed.

Xiao Huo seized the opportunity to mock, "Haha, serves him right, a simp ends up with nothing."

Xiao Shui completely broke down, yelling, "Shut up!"

Lin Xi turned around and said, "Don't make a fuss, this is a crucial moment."

Xiao Shui and Xiao Huo fell silent and rushed towards Fu Jingyao at the same time, finding it safest to hide behind Bao.

Little Gold warned, "Master, be careful."

Canglin kept shouting "Go away!" and releasing unidentified air currents.

Lin Xi feinted an attack and then struck at the back of his neck with a palm strike.

Canglin collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Xiao Shui's lips twitched, and she gave a thumbs up, "Master is amazing, you avenged me."

The sea monster leaped up excitedly, letting out an angry roar, "Whoa whoa whoa!!"

Lin Xi stood calmly in place and patted its head. "It's time to wake up from the dream, Sea God Yu Ruo."

What's fake is fake; no matter how many times it's acted out, it can never become real.

The woven dream not only trapped Yu Ruo, but also the souls of the villagers.

It goes on and on, in an endless cycle.

The sea monster trembled violently, its eyes becoming unfocused. "No, I am not Yu Ruo, I am the sea monster..."

Lin Xi said, word by word, "Even if you change your appearance, Cang Lin will still recognize you and protect you at all costs."

She raised her voice, "Sea God Yu Ruo, why don't you show yourself?"

Upon hearing this, the dream shattered instantly, and a luminous figure floated in the air.

It has blue eyes and blue hair, a few small fish scales on its cheeks, and a two-meter-long tail that shimmers in the water.

Its features resembled Xiao Yu's, and its body resembled Cang Lin's; it was as if they were their child.

Lin Xi asked directly, "Why did you pull me into the dream?"

Yu Ruo shook her head, her brows furrowed with worry. "I don't know. I feel your presence is very familiar. I used magic to stop your ship."

Xiao Tu exclaimed in surprise, "So it was you who did it! We thought it was a sea monster!"

"Feel sorry."

Yu Ruo's attitude was sincere. She smiled shyly, her tone carrying a hint of melancholy.

"This sea is no longer home to sea monsters or merfolk."

A tear slid down from the corner of her eye, turning into a crystal-clear pearl, and fell to the ground.

Thump—!

Xiao Shui found it. The pearl shone brightly in the sunlight, and he couldn't stop smiling. "Legend has it that the tears of mermaids can turn into pearls. You come from the mermaid clan."

No, I am not.

Yu Ruo held back her tears, recalling the name she could never forget deep in her heart, "Lord Canglin is the last merman in the world, and I have taken his place."

Her voice was somewhat hoarse, filled with bitterness and helplessness.

Lin Xi looked up. "Tell me, what's really going on between you and Cang Lin? Which dream was real?"

Yu Ruo trembled all over, choking back tears as she said, "Both dreams were half real and half unreal, about me and Lord Canglin..."

That year, the sea level rose high, and the villagers went out to sea to fish, but they never returned and were never heard from again.

Father was so anxious he paced back and forth. “Alas… We live off the land and the sea. For generations, we have made our living by fishing. If we can’t go out to sea, it’s like taking our lives.”

Yu Ruo comforted him, "Father, don't worry, your uncles will definitely return safely."

Days passed, the sea was calm, but the person who was supposed to return was nowhere to be seen.

Yu Ruo clasped her hands together in prayer, "O ocean, please let my uncles come back. I will repay you when I grow up."

Suddenly, a wave crashed onto the shore, soaking her from head to toe.

Yu Ruo shook off the water and was about to go home to change her clothes when her eyes were drawn to a blue fish.

It looks different from ordinary sea fish, with a deep blue tail, turquoise eyes, and scales that emit a faint golden light.

Yu Ruo smelled blood. "Little Fish, you're injured."

The blue fish raised its head, let out a low growl, and gasped for breath; it was badly injured.

This place is quite far from the ocean; by the time the next tide comes in, the fish will have long since died.

It's such a pity that such a beautiful fish died.

Yu Ruo couldn't bear it, so she picked it up and put it back into the sea. "Little fish, your uncles are gone. If you see humans in the sea, please tell them to go home."

The blue fish returned to the sea and immediately became energetic, leaping out of the water to gently kiss her palm.

Yu Ruo waved excitedly, "Goodbye, Little Fish."

That evening, the uncles who had been missing for seven days returned, with injuries of varying degrees, but none of them were in life-threatening danger.

One of the bearded men shouted, "Monster! Monster in the sea! It wants to eat us!!"

The villagers were terrified and gathered together to discuss countermeasures.
