Where is my older brother?
Jiang Ji yawned, his eyelids feeling as heavy as a thousand pounds, and he couldn't open them no matter what he did.
A few days ago, my elder brother perished along with the statue, and his five spirits scattered all over the world.
The younger sister said, "We must find the five souls of our eldest brother so that his soul can be reincarnated."
So, Jiang Ji and his younger brother, carrying a small schoolbag, embarked on a journey to find their older brother.
They searched and searched for seven days but didn't even see a ghost.
Jiang Ji is exhausted from rushing around these days, not eating well, and not sleeping well.
Suddenly, I felt a pain in my foot and flew out of the air.
"Oh my god! Brother, help me!!"
Jiang Chi took a few steps back, caught his second brother who was about to fall, and tapped him on the head.
"Second brother, are you awake?"
"I'm the older brother," Jiang Ji muttered. "Don't you dare hit me on the head, little brother!"
Jiang Chi had no interest in arguing with him and kept his eyes glued to the changing position of the red dot.
The eldest brother's five souls were scattered in the east, west, south, north, and center. They first came to Jiangcheng in the east.
Winter has long since arrived, but the temperature in Jiangcheng is still quite high, and the sunshine feels rather warm.
Jiang Ji took off his coat and covered his head, looking at the dazzling sun, and spoke from the heart.
"It must be snowing heavily in the capital by now."
"That year on the winter solstice, my older brother seemed to have brought us to Jiangcheng. There was a dish called Squirrel Grilled Fish, which was my favorite."
Jiang Chi: "Squirrels don't grill fish, they grill mandarin fish."
“Same here,” Jiang Ji continued. “There’s no rush to find our older brother. Let’s go eat first, then take a nap… I’m so sleepy.”
Jiang Chi reluctantly agreed.
He is used to sleeping four hours a day, and he can still be very energetic even if he doesn't sleep for two days, but his second brother can't.
If the eldest brother can't be found and the second brother has collapsed, then it's all over.
Jiang Chi put away the gun he was looking for, dragged Jiang Ji to the nearest hotel, and calmly analyzed, "We only have three months. Subtracting the time to go home, we can only stay in one place for a maximum of half a month."
Jiang Ji waved his hand, "If our eldest brother hears his younger brothers looking for him, he will definitely come out himself. He never lets anyone worry about him."
Jiang Chi frowned. "That was the older brother from before. The older brother now is different..."
A burning sensation came from his pocket, and Jiang Chi paused in his steps.
Jiang Ji turned around. "What's wrong?"
"It's Big Brother!"
Jiang Chi took out the Soul Nourishing Talisman, his dark eyes shining. "The Soul Nourishing Talisman is heating up, which proves that Big Brother is not far from us."
"Find it quickly!"
Jiang Ji looked left and right. "Where?"
Jiang Chi's gaze darkened. "Let's go!"
Not far away is a lake, its waters a clear, deep blue, reflecting the tall, ethereal figure.
Jiang Ji noticed, "Shadow, Big Brother?!"
Jiang Chi nodded, the talisman in his palm burning hot.
Jiang Ji swallowed hard. "Big Brother is a ghost, how can we talk to him?"
Jiang Chi took out a manifestation talisman and inserted it into the phantom's body. His technique was skillful, unlike the first time he had done something like this.
He said, "I expected it."
Jiang Ji felt a pang of sadness. "Your sister gave you another yellow talisman, but why didn't she give one to me?"
Jiang Chi ignored him.
With the appearance talisman, the phantom revealed its true appearance: a high nose bridge, and deep, ink-black eyes, just like Jiang Ting's face, but with a touch of melancholy in its demeanor.
He looked up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, his gaze vacant.
Jiang Ji waved his hand, "Big brother?"
The illusory figure remained motionless, radiating sorrow, as if it would shatter at the slightest touch, evoking pity in those who saw it.
Jiang Ji's expression was complicated. "A broken version of my older brother. It feels like the whole world owes him an explanation."
Jiang Chi seemed to be deep in thought. "This is the 'Sorrow' among the five souls, which governs human sorrow."
Jiang Ji seemed to understand but not quite, "Oh, now that you've figured it out, take the elder brother in."
Jiang Chi raised the Soul Nourishing Talisman and approached step by step.
The illusory figure asked blankly, "Why is the sky so blue? Why are the flowers so red?"
Jiang Ji said, "The sky is blue, and the flowers are red. These are the truths of the world; there is no 'why' about them."
The ghostly figure mechanically repeats, "Why is the sky so blue? Why are the flowers so red?"
Jiang Ji didn't want to reply. "Little brother, hurry up and go!"
Jiang Chi recited the incantation his sister had taught him: "Nine Netherworlds of the Yellow Springs, summoning back the souls, three souls and seven spirits, quickly return!!"
The yellow talisman glowed with golden light, and the phantom pressed firmly against the floor, unwilling to go in, and kept asking that question.
Why is the sky so blue? Why are the flowers so red?
With each word spoken, his body turned redder, his skin and bones cracked, and blood gushed out.
This is what my elder brother looked like before he died; one can only imagine the immense pain he endured.
Jiang Ji's eyes reddened. "Big brother, don't struggle. We're good people. We'll take you home... Waaah."
Jiang Chi, equally reluctant, answered two questions.
"The sky turns blue because of Rayleigh scattering. When sunlight enters the atmosphere, shorter wavelengths of light, such as blue light, are more easily scattered..."
"The flowers are so red because of anthocyanins..."
Jiang Chiquan remembered that he had asked these questions when he was five years old, and his older brother had patiently explained them and bought him popular science books.
Jiang Chi recalled his elder brother's explanation and repeated it.
After listening, the phantom patted his head, a gentle smile on its lips, and flew into the yellow talisman.
Jiang Ji exclaimed excitedly, "Big Brother went in!!"
Jiang Chi took a deep breath. "Let's go, next stop."
"Rest first, I'm starving."
"Rest for a day, then set off tomorrow morning."
"What time is it?"
"Eight o'clock."
"If we leave this afternoon, I definitely won't be able to get up!"
...
Next stop, a southern port city.
There are many cars, many people, and many ghosts.
A sudden chill ran down Jiang Ji's back; she felt someone touching her, and a scream pierced her throat.
