Wang Qian's face was ashen, and her shrill voice almost tore her throat apart.
"We ate that fish, and it turned into a vengeful ghost to take revenge on us, that must be it..."
Wang Hu stood up and slapped her, "Wang Qian, what nonsense are you spouting? It's just a fish, it's dead, so what!"
Fish scales, stained with blood, fell off, and Wang Qian trembled uncontrollably, her fear reaching its peak.
"I saw the soul of that fish, I really saw it!"
She suddenly sat up, grabbed Wang Hu's collar tightly, and looked frantic.
"You killed that fish, so you're the first to die, and then the two of us."
A flicker of fear crossed Wang Hu's eyes. "You're talking nonsense, you're talking nonsense."
Wang Qian shook him off, turned around and grabbed Hu Tao by the neck, "It's all your fault! Why did you let Wang Hu kill that fish? Why did you make us eat that fish?!"
"We're going to die, we're about to die, hahahaha..."
Her eyes were bloodshot, and her entire body was covered in fish scales that popped open.
When Hu Tao saw Wang Qian like this, her mind went completely blank.
She couldn't hear what Wang Qian was saying, and she desperately gasped for breath.
"Help! Help..."
Wang Liangshan quickly pulled Wang Qian away, saying, "Qianqian, calm down, she's your mother."
Wang Qian's eyes were filled with resentment. "She's not my mother. I'm like this because of her, and Wang Hu too."
She began to recount what had happened in Biluo Village.
A month ago, Wang Liangshan took his family of four on a trip to the south.
Wang Qian saw reviews of Biluo Village online and expressed her desire to visit the place.
"Dad, I read online that there's a very efficacious temple in Biluo Village where you can make a wish and it will come true."
Wang Hu scoffed, "Naive, believing in this stuff."
Wang Qian didn't want to talk to her twin brother.
She and Wang Hu were born only five minutes apart; she became the older sister, and Wang Hu became the younger brother.
Her mother often told her, "You are the older sister, you should give way to your younger brother."
Wang Qian disagreed, saying that Wang Hu was a liar who fought and had never called her "sister."
She and he didn't get along; they couldn't stand each other.
In the end, they decided to go to Biluo Village.
The air there was fresh, and I felt much more comfortable as soon as I went in.
The village chief told them, "You've come at the perfect time. Kneel in the main hall on the fifteenth of every month, and the Lord will bestow blessings upon us."
Wang Liangshan took his family to the temple to pray.
Wang Qian looked up and asked, "Why is it a fish?"
Wang Hu curled his lip, "This young master will not worship fish."
Wang Liangshan scolded, "If you're not going to worship, then get out. No making a scene in the temple."
He is a Buddhist and knows a little about Buddhist statues.
Buddha statues are the embodiment of gods; if you speak ill of someone in a temple, the gods can hear you.
However, he found it very strange that the villagers here were offering a fish.
The fish's body is carved from stone and coated with gold powder; its eyes are remarkably lifelike and captivating.
The stone statues gleamed in the sunlight, looking as if they were gods descended to earth.
Filled with respect, Wang Liangshan knelt down and kowtowed.
Seeing his father's grotesque appearance, Wang Hu rolled his eyes and said, "That old man is always talking nonsense; he'll go insane sooner or later."
Wang Qian also felt contempt for her father's behavior.
"Alright, let's wander around. Dad's going to pray for another day."
The three wandered around aimlessly. Wang Hu stopped at a fork in the road and said, "Go up this way."
Wang Qian pointed to the warning sign standing next to her, "Outsiders are not allowed to enter."
"If I want to go, who dares to stop me?"
Wang Hu pushed over the warning sign and walked up to it step by step.
Worried about him, Hu Tao followed him up.
With no one else around, Wang Qian didn't want to stay there alone, so she followed behind the two.
The air grew fresher the further they walked, and Wang Qian took a deep breath. "This is a good place."
Wang Hu cursed, "These villagers have no good intentions; they won't open such a nice place to the public."
Tired from walking, he scooped up water from the stream and washed his face.
Wang Hu licked his lips. "This water is so sweet."
"Yeah?"
Wang Qian suddenly became interested and was about to cup water in her hands when she noticed a golden fish.
"Ah! Look, what's that? It looks like it's glowing."
Wang Hu rolled up his sleeves and went into the water, saying, "I'll go take a look."
The golden fish had its eyes closed, and the water flowed gently against its scales.
When someone approached, the fish opened its eyes, flicked its tail, and swam towards him.
Wang Hu was extremely excited. "This fish is so beautiful!"
Wang Qian was equally excited, "It's a lucky koi fish."
"I've heard that encountering a koi fish brings good luck."
Wang Hu's face turned fierce. "Koi... I've never tasted the flavor of a golden koi."
As the koi fish drew closer, Wang Hu picked up a large rock and smashed it down hard on the fish's head.
Wang Qian frowned. "This isn't our home."
"Wild koi taste better."
Wang Hu licked his lips, then raised the stone and smashed it at the fish again.
The fish seemed to be stunned and lay motionless in the water.
Wang Hu dropped the stone and grabbed the fish by the tail.
The koi suddenly struggled.
He held the fish down tightly, shouting, "Quick, come help!!"
Hu Tao pulled Wang Qian into the water, saying, "Quickly help your brother."
Wang Qian held the fish down, while Hu Tao picked up a small stone and smashed it repeatedly against the koi's head.
Bright red blood gushed out, staining all three of them with a considerable amount of blood.
Wang Hu dragged the fish ashore, took out a lighter from his bag, and grinned sinisterly, "Outdoor barbecue."
Hu Tao reminded him, "Son, things outside aren't clean."
Wang Hu skillfully lit the firewood. "What do you know? Food from the wild tastes better."
