If Xu Huanyan hadn't mentioned trousers and had only said she was giving Su Ning a dress, it would have sounded much more pleasant.
Putting on trousers before a dress is a veiled insult to someone whose legs are crippled.

"I sincerely apologize to Miss Su," Xu Huanyan replied with a smile. "If you don't accept it, I'll feel bad."
“If my dad finds out, he'll blame me for taking Miss Su’s clothes.”

Xu Huanyan thought Su Ning meant that Mr. Xu wouldn't blame her, and was about to say something more when Su Ning's smile deepened. She said solemnly, "What I mean is, this store's clothes will not be sold to Miss Xu."
