"What’s wrong with you?"
"fine."
"Angry? And why are you angry?"
Jiang Yi paused, turned to face Song Shengsheng, and lowered his head. Song Shengsheng looked up at him and touched his face: "What's wrong?"
Jiang Yiyu drooped his brows and muttered softly, "I feel so useless."
"Why do you say that?" Song Shengsheng took a half step forward, put her arm around his waist, and pulled him towards her.
Jiang Yiyu bent down and hugged her, resting his chin on her shoulder: "Other people can have a wedding openly, but we...because of me, the wedding can't even be put on the schedule."
"Just because of this?" Song Shengsheng laughed and patted him on the back: "If I really cared about this so much, I wouldn't be with you."
"But I do care. We've been together for so long, and all I've brought you is endless trouble. Last time I proposed to you, it was a complete mess, not a surprise at all. I knew you'd be better off without me, but I was still selfish and insisted on keeping you... I'm really sorry..."
Song Shengsheng sighed: "So? Are you going to leave me?"
Jiang Yiyu hurriedly shook his head.
"That's all. Jiang Yiyu, before you think of saying things like, 'I'm better off without you,' please remember the twelve years I've loved you, and then consider whether you should think that way.
You are not a bother to me, and your value and meaning to me cannot be covered by a wedding or a surprise.
You are the obsession that I will spend my whole life trying to resolve. So, you don’t have to do anything deliberately or imitate others. You just need to stay by my side and love me, and that is enough to make me happy.
"Are you stupid?" Jiang Yiyu's voice was choked.
Song Shengsheng laughed and said, "If I weren't stupid, I would be living a better life, just as you said."
She listened to Jiang Yiyu's sigh and gently pushed him away. She looked at his red eyes and reached out to touch the corners of his eyes. "You owe me a wedding. I've always remembered it for you, but you and I both know that now is not a good time to have a wedding, so there's no need to envy others. We just need to follow our own pace and slowly walk our own path."
Jiang Yiyu raised his hand and covered the back of her hand with his palm, rubbing his cheek against her palm, his rosy peach eyes filled with affection.
For some reason, his pitiful and fawning look always aroused some of the evil taste buried deep in Song Shengsheng's heart. She really liked seeing Jiang Yiyu cry. She liked seeing him cry with tears on his face, looking aggrieved and angry, yet cautious and awkward as he came over to her to act coquettishly.
To be honest, this contrast is really amazing.
Song Shengsheng smiled and stood on tiptoe to kiss the corner of his lips: "So don't be unhappy. It's not auspicious to be angry during the New Year."
Jiang Yiyu lowered his eyes and hummed softly, "Just wait for me. I'll give you the best of what others have."
…
For the whole day after that, Jiang Yiyu became particularly clingy. When Song Shengsheng was leaning on the bed reading documents, he would come over, curl up and lie on her legs, doing nothing but looking up at her.
At first, Song Shengsheng thought he had something to say or something he wanted to discuss with her, but he didn't know how to start. But later she found out that he simply wanted to stay with her.
So she simply let him go, and only reached out and stroked his hair from time to time as if he were stroking a cat.
Maybe it was because he had shaved his head before, but his new long hair felt particularly soft, and the small stubble near his neck felt prickly. Her fingertips stroked his eyebrows, and when they fell on his eyelashes, Jiang Yiyu obediently closed his eyes. He smiled and said it was itchy, but did not avoid it.
Song Shengsheng looked down at him, smiled and leaned over to kiss his forehead. Jiang Yiyu stopped laughing, raised his head and leaned over to kiss her lips.
Song Shengsheng was distracted for a moment before he stood up and threw her down. The unbound documents in her hands fell to the ground. She wanted to pick them up, but Jiang Yiyu wouldn't let her. He held her face, forced her to look him in the eye, pestered her to kiss him, and lured her into the abyss...
Song Shengsheng suddenly understood why some people always say that the smartest hunters often appear as prey, because they know how to lie dormant.
She liked to hear Jiang Yiyu leaning over her ear and calling her name over and over again when his passion was strong. He didn't need her to respond, he just wanted her to know that he needed her, to remind her who was sharing this joy with her...
After the joy, the two hugged each other, exchanging breaths and heartbeats, as if sinking into nothingness together. Jiang Yiyu buried his face in her neck, murmuring over and over again: "I love you."
His tears fell, causing Song Shengsheng to shudder again...
After a long time, he turned over and lay on the bed facing the ceiling. Song Shengsheng turned to look at him: "Why are your tears so worthless today?"
Jiang Yiyu said nothing, but raised his arms to cover his eyes. Song Shengsheng watched his tears flow down his cheeks and into his temples. She hugged him sideways and kissed his chin: "Isn't it just a wedding? It doesn't have to be like this."
"It's not because of the wedding."
"What's that for? Were you unhappy just now?"
Jiang Yiyu shook his head.
"Why is that?" Song Shengsheng moved up and pulled away his arm that was covering his eyes. She saw his tear-filled peach blossom eyes, which were truly pitiful to the extreme. She held his face and asked again in a slow voice, "Why are you crying?"
