"That's your mother's fault."
"But I didn't find it."
"What do you want to say?"
"Nothing, just small talk."
"You don't sound leisurely when you say these things. Are you showing your loyalty to me?"
Jiang Yicheng smiled and sat down on the bed: "Even my mother knows that she has to get along well with you. I'm not stupid, so I must do the same. Tell me, what else do you want to see? I'll take you there before my brother comes."
"I don't want to see anything. If you have nothing else to do, I'll go downstairs." Song Shengsheng said as she turned around and prepared to leave. She had just taken a few steps when she heard Jiang Yicheng slowly say, "Auntie Li's room, do you want to go?"
Song Shengsheng paused: "Your brother will take me there, so I won't bother you."
Jiang Yicheng raised his eyebrows and looked out the window: "My brother won't let us go, because he thinks my mother killed his mother."
"Isn't it?"
"Of course not. Do you think my mother is scheming? She was just being used by someone. We all know who used her."
"Why?"
"I'm only sixteen. You're asking me to explain it. It's too profound."
Song Shengsheng stared at his back for a while, and when she saw that he had no intention of speaking again, she left the room.
As soon as she reached the second floor, she ran into Zhao Rong, who was carrying a fruit plate. Zhao Rong was stunned for a moment when she saw her, then asked with a smile, "Shengsheng, why did you come down?"
"Jiang Yicheng said he was tired."
"Oh." Zhao Rong looked behind her. "Just in time. Assistant Lin just called and said they should be here in five or six minutes. Yi Yu must be worried about you right now. If he comes in and sees you're fine, he'll probably be nicer to Old Jiang."
She turned and walked downstairs. Song Shengsheng pinched the handrail of the stairs and said, "Your jade pendant is of very ordinary quality. I heard that Aunt Li left behind a lot of expensive jewelry. Why don't you wear it?"
Zhao Rong's hands trembled when she heard this. She stopped and looked back, expressionless and unable to tell what she was feeling. "Is it you who wants it, or Jiang Yiyu?"
"Are you still there?"
"That's not my business."
Song Shengsheng walked towards her, picked up an apple from the fruit bowl and put it in his mouth. He casually glanced at the jade hanging around her neck and said, "So, after more than ten years in the Jiang family, this is all you deserve?"
Zhao Rong took two steps back and smiled, "Every family has its own problems. For a young lady like you who was born with a silver spoon in your mouth, there are some things you will never understand in your lifetime."
"Indeed." Song Shengsheng took another piece of apple and looked down through the gap between the stair railings: "Do you know where those things are?"
"What do you want to do?"
"Go and have a look."
"Why should I listen to you?"
"You can choose not to listen, but Jiang Yiyu might not be as easy to talk to as I am in a while."
The two of them were in a stalemate for a while. Zhao Rong looked back, and when she looked up at Song Shengsheng again, she was obviously timid. Song Shengsheng knew that she had made the right bet. Zhao Rong and her son were not actually a very smart threat, at least Zhao Rong was.
"Come with me."
Song Shengsheng moved aside and let her go upstairs first.
Zhao Rong led her into the master bedroom on the second floor. Song Shengsheng looked around the bedroom, looking at the photo of her, Jiang Yuan, and Jiang Yicheng's family of three hanging on the wall, and asked, "How does it feel to sleep in someone else's bedroom?"
"Miss Song, you don't have to mock me. I know what I want."
Zhao Rong led her into the cloakroom. She placed the fruit plate on the glass coffee table and opened the mahogany carved wardrobe at the back of the cloakroom. Song Shengsheng walked behind her. Zhao Rong squatted down and glanced at her, then covered her eyes with her hand. She pressed the combination and opened the safe. Then she slowly took out a box and handed it to Song Shengsheng: "This is all I have."
Song Shengsheng opened the box, and a jade cabochon, lustrous and inlaid with diamonds, appeared before her. She picked up the jade and held it up to the light. "Can you give it to me?"
"Miss Song, you..."
"This originally belonged to Jiang Yiyu. Is there anything wrong with me taking it?"
"You...isn't this inappropriate?"
"You've kept the deceased's belongings for so many years, and you didn't think it was inappropriate to take them for yourself. What's the big deal if I take a mere piece of jade? Madam Jiang, would you be reluctant to part with it?" Song Shengsheng held the jade and returned the box to her: "I'm not stealing it. I will return the gift."
Zhao Rong clenched her fists. "You...what if Old Jiang asks?"
"He even asked about a piece of jadeite. It shows that Aunt Zhao's life in the Jiang family is really ordinary. In our family, even if my mother threw something like this for fun, my father wouldn't say anything." Song Shengsheng sighed deeply: "As a practical reward in a while, Jiang Yicheng will definitely be safe and sound on his birthday today. Isn't this the reason why Aunt Zhao brought me here so happily?"
Zhao Rong took off the pendant from her neck, put it back in the box, and closed the safe.
She stood up and gave Song Shengsheng a forced smile: "You keep your promise."
"Of course." Song Shengsheng casually put the jade in his hand into his pocket. Zhao Rong felt distressed when she saw it.
…
As soon as they went downstairs, Jiang Yiyu also walked in. Song Shengsheng walked towards him and took his arm. Jiang Yiyu looked her up anxiously and asked, "Are you okay?"
Song Shengsheng shook his head: "It's okay."
Zhao Rong said, "That's perfect. Everyone's here now. We can start eating."
