Chapter 153: Beat the eggs first or cut the tomatoes first

Chapter 153: Beat the eggs first or cut the tomatoes first

Mu Nanyan couldn't help laughing out loud. She didn't expect Chenchen to trick Lu Yiran like this.

She pretended not to notice Lu Yiran's slightly embarrassed expression and gently patted Chenchen's shoulder:

"Chenchen, why don't you let Mommy do it? Uncle might not be very good at it..."

"no!"

Chenchen interrupted her, with persistence written all over her face.

"Uncle said he would make it! Besides, I also want to taste uncle's cooking."

Lu Yiran was provoked by Chenchen and suddenly felt that he could not embarrass himself in front of the little guy.

He stood up and said calmly:

"Okay, I'll make it. What would Chenchen like to eat?"

Chenchen tilted his head and thought for a moment, then said with a smile:

"I want to eat scrambled eggs with tomatoes and braised pork!"

Lu Yiran: “…”

He appeared calm on the surface, but his heart was already beating fast.

Scrambled eggs with tomatoes and braised pork? These two dishes sound simple, but he has hardly even touched a spatula, let alone cooked.

However, the words had already been spoken, so he could only bite the bullet and walk towards the kitchen. He drove all the chefs out and left himself alone in there to avoid being seen and embarrassed by others.

Mu Nanyan looked at Lu Yiran's back and couldn't help laughing. She pulled Chenchen to sit on the sofa and whispered:

"Chenchen, are you testing him?"

Chenchen blinked his eyes, looking innocent:

"I just wanted to see if he could cook. If he can't, he can't bully Sister Yan anymore!"

Mu Nanyan was amused by Chenchen's logic and gently rubbed his hair:

"You are such a clever little ghost."

At the same time, there was a burst of ping-pong sounds coming from the kitchen.

Lu Yiran stood in front of the stove, holding a kitchen knife in his hand, staring at the tomatoes and eggs on the chopping board.

While preparing the food, Lu Yiran watched a cooking video and tried to imitate the steps, but it was obvious that there was a huge gap between theory and practice.

"Crack the eggs first... or chop the tomatoes first?"

He muttered to himself and began to operate in a hurry.

As a result, the egg shells fell into the bowl, the tomatoes were cut into different sizes, and the oil in the pot splashed everywhere.

Mu Nanyan heard the noise in the kitchen and couldn't help but look over.

Lu Yiran was seen waving the spatula in a panic, with a little tomato juice on his face, looking both embarrassed and funny.

She suppressed her smile, walked in and asked:

"Do you need help?"

Without even turning his head, Lu Yiran pretended to be calm and said:

"No, I can handle it."

Mu Nanyan raised her eyebrows and said deliberately:

"Okay then, but... the oil in the pan seems to be smoking."

Lu Yiran finally reacted and quickly turned down the heat, but his hand shook and he poured too much salt.

He frowned and tried to make amends, but mistook soy sauce for vinegar.

Finally, after some "arduous" efforts, Lu Yiran finally brought out his "masterpiece", a plate of burnt tomato scrambled eggs and a plate of strangely colored braised pork.

Chenchen looked at the dishes on the table, his face full of suspicion:

"Uncle, is this really scrambled eggs with tomatoes and braised pork?"

Lu Yiran coughed lightly and said confidently:

"Of course, it's just... it doesn't look very good, but it must be delicious."

Mu Nanyan couldn't help laughing. She picked up the chopsticks and took a bite of the scrambled eggs with tomatoes. As soon as she put it in her mouth, she couldn't help frowning.

But she still swallowed it, and said with a smile:

"Hmm... a very special taste."

Seeing this, Chenchen also took a bite out of curiosity, but immediately spat it out:

"It's so salty! Uncle, did you pour all the salt in there?"

Lu Yiran touched his nose awkwardly and said helplessly:

"Maybe... there was a slight mistake."

Mu Nanyan finally couldn't help laughing. She stood up and took the two dishes into the kitchen and threw them away.

"Let me do it. If this continues, Chenchen might go hungry tonight."

Lu Yiran stood at the kitchen door, his eyes falling on Mu Nanyan. She skillfully tied her apron and began to prepare the ingredients again. Her movements were smooth and natural, as if she had never left the kitchen.

Seeing this scene, Lu Yiran felt a complex emotion in his heart - both familiar and unfamiliar.

He hadn't seen her cooking for him for a long time, and the long-lost warmth made him feel a little uncomfortable.

Mu Nanyan was busy in the kitchen, while Chenchen brought a small stool and stood beside her to help wash the vegetables.

The mother and son were talking and laughing. Although the sound of cooking in the kitchen was very loud and Lu Yiran couldn't hear what they were talking about, his heart couldn't help but soften when he saw Chenchen looking up at his little face and washing the vegetables carefully, and Mu Nanyan lowering her head and smiling gently at him from time to time.

This scene is warm and beautiful, as if time has stopped at this moment.

Lu Yiran stood aside, watching silently, and suddenly a thought came to his mind: how nice it would be if it could always be like this.

He couldn't help but take a few steps closer and whispered:

"Do you need my help?"

Mu Nanyan raised her head and glanced at him with a faint smile on her lips:

"No need, you and Chenchen go wait in the living room, it will be ready soon."

Chenchen also turned his head, looked at Lu Yiran and said:

"Uncle, you'd better not make things worse. The scrambled eggs with tomatoes just now were scary enough!"

Lu Yiran was amused by Chenchen's words and shook his head helplessly:

"Okay, then I'll watch here and make sure I don't cause any trouble."

Mu Nanyan smiled and said nothing more, continuing to focus on the ingredients in her hands.

Mu Nanyan felt that Lu Yiran seemed to have changed. It was really strange that people like Lu Yiran would not even enter the kitchen before, but now he actually wanted to help on his own initiative.

Mu Nanyan glanced at Chenchen who was standing on the bench washing tomatoes. Perhaps Lu Yiran wanted to show off in front of the child.

Soon, the meal was ready. Mu Nanyan made three dishes and a soup. In addition to the scrambled eggs with tomatoes and braised pork ordered by Chenchen, she also specially added a dish of shredded pork with Beijing sauce and a bowl of tomato beef soup.

The fragrant dishes were served on the table. Chenchen couldn't wait to climb onto the chair, staring at the dishes on the table with sparkling eyes, his little face full of anticipation.

The three of them sat around the dining table, the atmosphere was a little subtle. Lu Yiran picked up the chopsticks, picked up a piece of braised pork and put it into his mouth.

The familiar taste instantly spread across his tongue. He paused slightly, and an indescribable emotion surged in his heart.

He couldn't remember how long it had been since he had eaten the food cooked by Mu Nanyan. It seemed like it was a long, long time ago, so long ago that the memories of it became blurred.

But now, this familiar smell made him feel as if he had returned to the past, back to the days when they were still together.

Lu Yiran lowered his head and chewed silently, feeling mixed emotions. He secretly looked up at Mu Nanyan and found that she was concentrating on picking up food for Chenchen with a gentle smile on her face.

Her profile looked particularly soft under the light, as if nothing had changed.

Chenchen ate with gusto, while picking at the food in the bowl, he mumbled:

"Sister Yan, your cooking is so delicious! Much better than uncle's!"

Mu Nanyan was amused by Chenchen's words and gently pinched his cheek:

"Eat slowly, don't choke."

Lu Yiran watched the interaction between the mother and son, and his heart felt warm and a little sour. He suddenly realized that he had missed too many moments like this.

Those warm moments that should have belonged to them turned into irreparable regrets because of his negligence. It’s time to come to terms with some things.
