Chapter 382 Why aren’t you asleep yet?
Mu Nanyan gently finished reading the last story and looked down. Chenchen was already snuggled up to her, breathing evenly and long. His curled eyelashes cast a quiet shadow under his eyelids, and he had obviously fallen into a sweet dream.
She carefully pulled her arm out and tucked the quilt in for him, then lowered her head to give him a gentle goodnight kiss on his smooth forehead. Then she picked up her pajamas and toiletries and tiptoed out of the second bedroom.
She closed the door very quietly, blocking out the tranquility in the room.
She turned around and was about to go to the bathroom, but was surprised to find that there was someone sitting on the sofa in the living room.
The soft light of the floor lamp outlined Lu Yiran's deep silhouette. He was not looking at his phone or doing work, but just sitting there quietly, as if waiting for something.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, his eyes immediately turned over and captured her accurately.
Mu Nanyan was a little surprised, and she stopped where she was and asked softly:
"Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Lu Yiran did not answer her question directly.
His gaze lingered on her for a moment, then he passed her and looked at the tightly closed door of the second bedroom. He lowered his voice very low, as if afraid of disturbing the tranquility inside:
"Chenchen fell asleep?"
Mu Nanyan responded lightly and nodded:
"Yeah. I played all day and fell asleep quickly."
After her answer, there was a moment of silence in the air.
Lu Yiran slowly stood up and walked towards her.
His steps were steady, yet carried an unquestionable aura, until he stood in front of her.
The tall figure loomed over her, bringing with it a faint scent of cedar, causing Mu Nanyan's heart to skip a beat involuntarily.
He reached out his hand, gently grasped her wrist with his warm palm, caressed her delicate skin with his fingertips, and led her to the sofa next to him.
Mu Nanyan almost subconsciously followed his force and sat down, and the soft sofa sank a little.
As soon as they sat down, Lu Yiran's arms naturally wrapped around her waist. With a little force, he pulled her body towards him, making the two of them very close.
Mu Nanyan's body tensed instantly, her hand subconsciously resting on his solid chest, her voice trembling with an imperceptible tremor as she subconsciously refused:
"You...what are you doing...Chenchen is still in there..."
Lu Yiran chuckled softly, his warm breath brushing against her earlobe, and his voice lowered even lower, with a magnetic allure:
"He's so soundly asleep he won't know."
He felt the body in his arms stiffen, but his arms tightened even more, almost trapping her in his arms.
"My eyes have been following Chenchen all day long..."
There was a subtle hint of grievance in his tone, his thin lips almost touching her earlobe, and he said in a low voice,
"I missed you so much, let me hug you, okay?"
This almost coquettish complaint and straightforward longing instantly softened Mu Nanyan's defenses.
Yes, he crossed the ocean and made careful plans just to be with her.
But she was busy with work all day, and then her son occupied most of her attention, leaving very little time for him.
A mixture of guilt and heartache surged in my heart, and the hand against his chest gradually lost its strength.
She sighed softly, her body no longer resisting, and she leaned softly into his arms, whispering:
"……I miss you as well."
Feeling her compromise and softness, a hint of triumphant smile flashed across Lu Yiran's eyes, but his embrace became more gentle.
He lowered his head and rubbed his chin gently against the top of her fragrant hair, enjoying this hard-earned tenderness.
There is a silent ambiguity in the air, and the temperature seems to be rising quietly.
After a moment of silent embrace, Lu Yiran's low voice sounded again, with a coaxing tone:
"Tonight...don't go over there. Go sleep in the master bedroom, okay?"
Mu Nanyan regained her senses after hearing this and shook her head slightly:
"No...I promised Chenchen that I would sleep with him. If he doesn't see me tomorrow morning, he will definitely make a fuss."
"fine,"
Lu Yiran's arms tightened, not giving her a chance to escape. His lips brushed against her forehead, his voice hoarse.
"I'll call you early tomorrow morning, and then you can go there quietly. He won't notice..."
He paused, his tone softened, almost whispering against her lips,
"Stay with me, just for one night, okay?"
Mu Nanyan was confused by his low and hoarse voice and almost whispered plea.
His warm breath brushed against her lips, bringing a slight shiver.
His words were like the softest feathers, scratching the most sensitive part of her heart, making her almost indulge in the dizzying gentle web he had woven.
Her mind told her to refuse, but her body reacted first.
She felt herself nodding slightly, her voice so soft that it was almost inaudible:
"Then...you must remember to call me tomorrow morning..."
This sentence was like the most pleasant command, and Lu Yiran's eyes instantly flashed with a light of satisfaction.
He murmured "Okay", his voice filled with deep joy and indulgence.
He did not let her go immediately, but lowered his head slightly while hugging her tightly.
This time, his target was clear, and he accurately captured her lips that were slightly opened due to her helplessness.
This kiss was unlike any before.
It was no longer a test, nor an impulse driven by surprise, but rather a gentle yet resolute penetration, carrying with it the longing accumulated throughout the entire day, and the possessive desire that surged out after the careful coaxing that had just succeeded.
Mu Nanyan snorted softly, and the hand on his chest unconsciously clenched his collar.
His scent was overwhelming, the crisp scent of cedar mixed with a uniquely masculine, aggressive heat that almost sucked all the air out of her lungs.
Her mind became dizzy, and the last bit of her remaining rationality was completely surrendered in this long and deep kiss.
It was unknown how long it took before Lu Yiran reluctantly stepped back a little, but his forehead was still resting against hers intimately. Their breaths blended together, and their breathing was a little unstable.
He looked at her lips that were glistening with water and her cheeks that were stained with red. His Adam's apple rolled and his voice became hoarse.
"Carry you to take a bath?"
Mu Nanyan felt weak all over at this moment and could only lean in his arms and nod gently.
Lu Yiran chuckled, picked her up and carried her sideways, walking steadily towards the bathroom in the master bedroom.
The misty water vapor quickly spread, and blurred figures were reflected on the frosted glass. Whispers and the sound of water were intertwined, and there was a lot of ambiguity.
After a long time, Lu Yiran came out with a large bath towel, wrapping Mu Nanyan, whose cheeks were rosy and eyes were sparkling, and gently placed her on the soft big bed in the master bedroom.
He then leaned over and carefully tucked the corners of the quilt for her, his movements as gentle as if he were treating a rare treasure.
However, when he was about to go around to the other side to get on the bed, Mu Nanyan seemed to suddenly wake up from a daze and subconsciously grabbed his wrist.
"etc……"
Her voice still had the softness of aftermath, but her eyes revealed a hint of uneasiness.
"Should I... go back to the second bedroom? What if Chenchen wakes up in the middle of the night..."
Lu Yiran paused, turned around, and locked his deep gaze on her.
He didn't refute immediately, but just sat down on the bed again while she was holding him, and gently stroked the inside of her wrist with his fingertips.
He looked into her eyes, his tone calm and reassuring:
"Believe me, the suite is very soundproof. And Chenchen is tired, so he will sleep through the night."
He paused, and the corners of his lips curved up in a reassuring arc.
"Even if he does wake up, I'll go check on him. You can sleep peacefully, okay?"
His eyes were so determined and gentle that they easily soothed her last bit of worry.
Mu Nanyan looked at him and finally slowly let go of her hand.
Lu Yiran walked around to the other side of the bed, lifted the quilt and lay down. He stretched out his long arms and wrapped her in his warm and solid embrace.
His chin rested against the top of her head and he let out a sigh of satisfaction.
"Go to sleep, I will wake you on time tomorrow."
He placed a soft kiss on her hair, his deep voice like the best lullaby.
The intense feeling of exhaustion and the sense of security surrounded by his aura finally overwhelmed her.
Mu Nanyan found the most comfortable position in his arms, her eyelids gradually became heavy, and she finally fell into a deep sleep.
Outside the window, the snow had stopped at some point and everything was silent.
The only sound in the room was the steady and long intertwined breathing of the two people.
........
Over the next two days, the three of them spent a very warm family time.
In the early morning, Lu Yiran would hold Chenchen's hand and send Mu Nanyan to the dance troupe where she worked; at noon, the father and son would bring a carefully prepared lunch to have lunch with her.
When the colleagues in the dance troupe saw this scene, they all envied Mu Nanyan for having such a loving boyfriend and lovely son.
In the evening after get off work, they sometimes watch a movie together, sometimes go shopping leisurely, or just take a walk side by side.
During those days, they seemed to be just an ordinary happy family of three.
However, happy times always pass quickly.
Chenchen has been on leave for a week and it is time to go back to school. Lu Yiran's company also has a backlog of many urgent matters to be dealt with, and the calls urging him to return are becoming more and more frequent.
On the eve of their departure, Mu Nanyan quietly packed their luggage in the bedroom.
Chenchen leaned against the door, looking at his mother's busy back, his little face full of depression. He tugged at the corner of Lu Yiran's clothes and said in a muffled voice:
"Dad, are we really leaving tomorrow?"
Lu Yiran touched his head, his voice gentle but affirmative:
"Well, you should go back to school."
"All right……"
Chenchen nodded sensibly. They had originally planned to stay for only two days, but now they had already spent four days luxuriously.
But he still couldn't help but lower his eyes, his whole body listless, his eyes full of attachment and reluctance to leave Mu Nanyan.
Lu Yiran squatted down in front of him, looked him straight in the eyes and said comfortingly:
"Don't be sad, you two will be able to see each other again soon after Mommy finishes her work here."
"Well, I'll see Mommy again soon!"
Chenchen repeated it in a low voice as if to comfort himself, then cheered up and said:
"I'll go help Mommy clean up!"
As he said that, he ran into the room and stood on tiptoe to help Mu Nanyan fold her clothes.
Mu Nanyan stopped, smiled gently, and ruffled his hair.
Lu Yiran looked at this scene, and the corners of his lips couldn't help but rise slightly.
He was about to walk over to join them when his cell phone suddenly rang.
“Ding-ling-ling——”
A quick ring of a cell phone broke the warmth at this moment.
Lu Yiran took out his cell phone from his coat pocket. The moment his eyes touched the screen, the gentleness on his face instantly faded and his eyes suddenly darkened.
He glanced at the two people in the room who were unaware of this, silently held his phone tightly, turned and walked towards the secluded study.
He placed his phone on the cold desk. The screen remained on, and the ringtone sounded particularly harsh in the empty room.
He just stared at the flashing name expressionlessly, with no intention of answering it.
Three words were clearly displayed on the screen: Gu Rushuang.
How long had it been since this name appeared in his life? Lu Yiran subconsciously recalled that it seemed to be almost four years.
Why did she suddenly contact him at this time?
At the last moment when the phone was about to stop ringing, Lu Yiran pressed the answer button.
"Hello."
His voice came through the receiver, cold and steady, without a trace of unnecessary ups and downs, as if he was just answering an insignificant sales call, treating the person on the other end of the phone no differently than a stranger.
The woman on the other end of the phone seemed to be slightly stung by the icy tone. The receiver fell into a brief silence, with only the extremely slight sound of breathing proving that the call was still going on.
After several seconds, a female voice finally rang out. The voice was just like her name: cold and steady, without any hint of emotion, yet carrying an invisible pressure.
"You've already arrived in Washington, and you're leaving without even asking to see me?"
When Lu Yiran heard this, a hint of surprise flashed across his eyes, and then his face completely darkened, with a frost between his brows.
"How did you know I was in Washington?"
His tone suddenly became sharp.
"You hired someone to follow me?"
"I don't have the time for that,"
Gu Rushuang's voice still lacked any emotion, she just stated calmly,
"It just happened that someone saw you and mentioned it to me casually."
Hearing this, Lu Yiran frowned slightly, almost imperceptibly.
Someone saw him? And she happened to hear it? Who could this person be?
He quickly searched through the faces he had come into contact with in the past few days. Anyone who was qualified to meet her and had a say in front of her must be a very influential figure in the North American business community.
Almost instantly, a figure jumped into his mind.
His eyes were stern, and he asked tentatively in a deep voice:
"Do you know Mr. Robert?"
On the other end of the phone, the corners of the woman's delicate lips curved upwards almost imperceptibly, and her tone was tinged with a hint of unconcealable pride, but she deliberately suppressed it to be calm:
"certainly."
She dropped a bombshell lightly.
"Otherwise, why do you think Mr. Robert was so willing to cooperate with you in the first place? Do you really think that you alone are enough to impress him?"
She snorted softly, with a subtle hint of sarcasm and condescension in her voice.
"That's simply because I recommended you to him."
