Chapter 391 Dad, I seem to be sick

Chapter 391 Dad, I seem to be sick

"Ding-ling-ding-ling-"

The crisp sound of the alarm clock broke the tranquility of the early morning.

Chenchen woke up in a daze, and his little hands fumbled on the bedside table for several times before he successfully turned off the noisy alarm clock.

He rubbed his eyes and sat up, keeping them almost closed the whole time, and put on his clothes clumsily but skillfully relying on muscle memory.

After changing his clothes, he was still sleepy and staggered out of the room like a sleepwalking penguin, preparing to go to the bathroom to wash up.

As soon as I walked out of the room, a familiar and tempting food aroma entered my nose.

He subconsciously took a deep breath, slowly opened his sleepy eyes, and saw an extremely familiar figure busy in the open kitchen.

The next second, he suddenly closed his eyes again and muttered in a baby voice:

"Why am I still hallucinating... I actually saw Sister Yan making breakfast..."

He was convinced that this must be an illusion caused by not waking up yet, shook his head, and continued to walk towards the bathroom like a sleepwalker.

Mu Nanyan, who was busy in the kitchen, heard the movement at the door. She turned around and happened to see her son walking past the door with his eyes closed and mumbling to himself.

She couldn't help laughing, but didn't call him immediately.

She took off her apron, gently placed it on the back of the chair, turned around and walked towards the next room. It was time to wake up the person who was still sleeping in.

Mu Nanyan gently pushed open the door of the master bedroom. The room was quiet, with only the sound of Lu Yiran's even and steady breathing.

He was still immersed in sleep, and his profile looked particularly soft and relaxed in the morning light.

She walked lightly to the bedside, knelt on one knee at the edge, and leaned over to carefully look at his defenseless sleeping face.

A naughty little idea suddenly popped into her mind, and a cunning light flashed in her eyes.

She stretched out her fingers and gently, yet playfully, pinched his nose.

Mu Nanyan watched his reaction with a playful look of having successfully played a prank.

At first, Lu Yiran just frowned unconsciously in his sleep, and subconsciously turned his head to avoid the restraint that disturbed his sweet dreams.

But the mischievous little hand followed him like a shadow and refused to let go at all.

After a few seconds, the physiological instinct of lack of oxygen finally pulled him out of his sleep.

His thick eyelashes trembled and he opened them a little with difficulty. Before his hazy vision could focus, he met the pair of smiling eyes with a cunning halo that were right in front of him.

When he saw that it was her, the confusion of just waking up and the slight displeasure of being disturbed in Lu Yiran's eyes disappeared without a trace, replaced by a deep and hoarse tenderness that was unique to when one just woke up.

"Naughty?"

He spoke, his voice low as a whisper, filled with lingering sleepiness. Instead of blaming, it revealed a sense of intimate indulgence.

He did not raise his hand to pull away her mischievous hand, but in this position, he tilted his head slightly and placed a soft and warm kiss on the inside of the wrist that was still pinching his nose.

The touch was warm and slightly moist, like a feather gently brushing across the most sensitive skin, bringing a slight shudder.

Mu Nanyan's heart skipped a beat, and the tingling sensation in her wrist made her subconsciously want to withdraw her hand, but he quickly grasped it.

He held her wrist, his thumb caressing her delicate skin subtly, his eyes fixed on her slightly flushed cheeks, a lazy and charming curve at the corner of his lips:

"You're not letting me breathe properly this early in the morning... Are you trying to wake me up this way, Mrs. Lu?"

His address was natural and intimate, with the hoarse magnetism unique to the early morning, striking at the tip of Mu Nanyan's heart.

The distance between the two was very close, their breaths blended, and the air was filled with an ambiguous and warm atmosphere.

Mu Nanyan's cheeks felt hot when she was looked at by him. She tried to pull her hand back, but he held it tighter.

She simply stopped struggling and leaned forward a little closer, her nose almost touching his. She imitated his tone and asked in a low voice:

"Then...is Mr. Lu satisfied with this wake-up service?"

Her breath brushed against his lips, and her eyes held a mixture of challenge and temptation.

Lu Yiran's eyes darkened instantly, with desire and pampering clearly visible in them.

He chuckled softly, and suddenly put his other hand around the back of her neck. With a little force, he grabbed those provocative red lips.

It's a gentle yet undeniable good morning kiss with a minty freshness.

"Very satisfied..."

He whispered vaguely in between breaths:

“But it can be better…”

Lu Yiran's hand lingered restlessly around her waist, intending to ask for more tenderness, but was held down accurately by Mu Nanyan.

Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she glared at him coquettishly: "Hasn't there enough trouble last night?"

He chuckled softly, his voice still hoarse from the morning, but his eyes were scorching hot.

"It's never enough for you."

As he said this, he lowered his head to find her lips again.

Mu Nanyan smiled and turned her head away, gently placed her hand on his chest and reminded him:

"Alright, hurry up and get up. Chenchen has already gotten up and is washing up. It would be embarrassing if he sees us."

Upon hearing this, Lu Yiran paused, as if he had just remembered that he had a little one at home.

He looked at her, his eyes regaining some clarity, and asked:

"When did you get up?"

Mu Nanyan's tone was relaxed, with a hint of accomplishment.

"I've prepared breakfast and am waiting for you."

She said, reaching out to grab his wrist and trying to pull him out of the comfortable bed.

"So early?"

Lu Yiran sat up with her strength, but his brows were slightly furrowed, his eyes full of heartache.

"You've only slept for a few hours. Are you tired?"

Mu Nanyan shook her head, her eyes gentle but firm.

"I'm not tired. I'm so happy to be able to come back and make breakfast for Chenchen."

Seeing that she looked really happy, Lu Yiran didn't say anything more. He just reached out and rubbed her hair, and said:

"Then remember to catch up on some sleep during the day, don't force yourself."

"I know."

Mu Nanyan agreed with a smile, feeling very touched by his clumsy but genuine concern.

Lu Yiran then stood up swiftly, put on his home clothes, and went into the bathroom to wash up.

Not long after, he came out refreshed and naturally put his arm around Mu Nanyan's shoulders.

"Let's go and see what the little guy's expression will be when he sees you suddenly appear."

The two smiled at each other and walked towards the door together.

As soon as Mu Nanyan and Lu Yiran pushed open the door of the next room, they bumped into Chenchen who was walking out of the master bedroom rubbing his eyes.

The little guy was obviously looking for his father. When he saw Lu Yiran suddenly appear, his little mouth immediately pouted and he muttered with a grievance as if he had just woken up:

"Dad, where have you been? I thought you left me home alone again..."

Hearing this, Lu Yiran touched his nose awkwardly. It was not what he thought. Judging from the results, he did leave the little guy alone at home.

Just as he was quickly thinking about how to explain, Chenchen's gaze passed over him and fell on Mu Nanyan who was smiling behind him.

The little guy blinked violently, then his face fell. He turned to Lu Yiran, his tone extremely serious and even a little panicked:

"Dad, I feel sick."

Lu Yiran's expression changed instantly, and worry immediately replaced embarrassment. He quickly walked to Chenchen and squatted down, carefully checking his face, and said anxiously:

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Tell dad, we'll go to the hospital now!"

As she said that, she prepared to pick him up.

However, Chenchen's next words froze all his movements:

"I think I'm hallucinating because I miss Mommy so much..."

Chenchen's eyebrows were tightly furrowed. He pointed in the direction of Mu Nanyan and described his "symptoms" seriously.

"I saw her twice this morning! I just saw her in the kitchen making breakfast, and now she suddenly appeared at the door!"

Lu Yiran and Mu Nanyan looked at each other, stunned at first, then they could no longer hold back and laughed at the same time.

Especially Lu Yiran, his previous nervousness and worry instantly turned into helplessness and laughter.

Mu Nanyan walked forward with a smile, squatted down in front of Chenchen, looked him in the eye, and said in a very serious and gentle manner:

"Chenchen, you're not hallucinating. What you saw was really me. I flew back from Washington last night and wanted to give you a surprise."

As she spoke, she reached out and gently pinched her son's soft little face. The real and warm touch made Chenchen open his eyes suddenly.

He felt the real touch on his cheek, looked carefully at the person in front of him, and then hesitantly and tentatively shouted with great surprise:

"...Sister Yan?"

"Yeah, I'm here."

Mu Nanyan responded gently.

After confirming that this was not an illusion, Chenchen immediately flew into Mu Nanyan's arms like a happy little bird, hugging her neck tightly, his voice filled with the joy of regaining what he had lost and a little bit of fear:

"Sister Yan! Why didn't you tell me you were coming back? I thought I was really sick. I was scared to death!"

"When I left, you and Dad were still on the plane, so I couldn't contact you."

Mu Nanyan hugged him back and explained patiently,

"So I wanted to give you a surprise. How about it? Are you happy to see me now?"

"Uh-huh!"

Chenchen nodded vigorously in her arms, rubbing his little head against her shoulder.

"Super happy! Are you done with your work over there?"

"I'm almost done."

Mu Nanyan gently stroked his back.

"If we had known this, we would have waited for you for a whole day and returned with you!"

There was a hint of annoyance in Chenchen's tone.

The mother and son chatted intimately for a few more words before Mu Nanyan gently patted his back:

"Okay, go have breakfast, you still have to go to school today."

"Um!"

Chenchen then let her go, a bright smile on his face. He held Mu Nanyan with one hand and subconsciously reached for Lu Yiran with the other.

The three of them walked to the dining room together and sat down at a table filled with the warm aroma of food.

The morning light shines gently into the restaurant through the clean glass windows.

On the table, the breakfast prepared by Mu Nanyan exuded an enticing aroma: crystal clear and sticky preserved egg and lean meat porridge was served in a delicate white porcelain bowl, golden scallion omelet was cut into small, palatable pieces, and there were several plates of refreshing and delicious side dishes.

Chenchen sat in his own exclusive chair, looking at the breakfast on the table with sparkling eyes, especially the plate of omelets, and couldn't help swallowing.

"Sister Yan, did you do all this?" He raised his little face, his tone full of admiration.

Mu Nanyan smiled and served him a bowl of porridge, blowing it carefully before placing it in front of him.

"Yes, try it quickly. Does it still taste the same as before?"

Lu Yiran sat in the main seat, looking at the scene in front of him.

He didn't pick up his chopsticks immediately, but first picked up a piece of omelet for Mu Nanyan and put it on the plate in front of her. His voice was low and gentle:

"You've worked hard, eat more."

His gaze lingered on her smiling face for a moment, with an imperceptible tenderness and satisfaction in his eyes.

Chenchen couldn't wait to scoop up a spoonful of porridge and put it into his mouth. The temperature was just right, and it was salty, fragrant and soft. It was the taste of his mother that he had missed for a long time.

He narrowed his eyes in satisfaction, like a kitten that had tasted something delicious, and murmured incomprehensible praise:

"Mmm! Delicious! Just like before! Even better than what Dad asked Auntie to make!"

Hearing this, Lu Yiran raised his eyebrows and looked at his son, deliberately frowning:

"Oh? Then let mom do it from now on, and dad's aunt can rest?"

Chenchen immediately changed his words cleverly, still stuffing his mouth with food, and puffing his cheeks as he said:

"...But the auntie Dad asked me to cook is delicious too! They're all delicious!"

That look made Mu Nanyan laugh uncontrollably.

During the meal, Chenchen became particularly lively, talking non-stop, excitedly sharing with Mu Nanyan the interesting things that happened at school yesterday and where his father took him to play.

Mu Nanyan listened patiently, responded gently from time to time, and carefully wiped the porridge stains from the corners of his mouth.

Lu Yiran ate breakfast quietly most of the time, but his eyes often fell on the two people beside him.

He looked at Mu Nanyan listening attentively and Chenchen's excited expression. An unprecedented sense of fulfillment called "home" slowly soothed his heart like warm porridge.

Breakfast ended in a warm and pleasant atmosphere.

Chenchen finished the last bite of the omelet with satisfaction, and Mu Nanyan carefully wiped his mouth and fingers clean.

"Okay, Chenchen, you should get ready to go to school."

Mu Nanyan said softly, then turned to look at Lu Yiran.

"You should go to work at the company. You missed several days of work because of me."

"Well, I'll go change and then go out."

After Lu Yiran finished speaking, he turned around and went back to the bedroom to change clothes. Chenchen also went back to his room to get his schoolbag. When Mu Nanyan saw them go in, she started to clean the table.

Seeing the two people coming out of the bedroom and Mu Nanyan coming out of the kitchen, the three of them walked to the entrance together.

Mu Nanyan squatted down and helped Chenchen straighten the collar of his school uniform. She then carefully checked his small schoolbag to make sure he had everything he needed.

Chenchen tilted his little face up, enjoying the long-lost care from his mother, his eyes full of attachment.

"You have to listen to your teachers and study hard at school, okay?"

Mu Nanyan warned softly.

"I know, Sister Yan!"

Chenchen nodded vigorously, then opened his arms and gave her a big hug.

"Goodbye, Mommy! Wait for me to come back tonight!"

"Okay, I'll definitely wait for you."

Mu Nanyan hugged him back and kissed him on the forehead.

After seeing her son off, Mu Nanyan stood up and turned her gaze to Lu Yiran who was putting on his coat.

Naturally, he leaned forward slightly and placed a brief but warm farewell kiss on her lips.

"Rest at home during the day and don't be busy with other things, okay?"

He whispered instructions, his fingertips gently running through the hair beside her ear, his eyes filled with concern.

"I know. Go quickly and don't be late."

Mu Nanyan smiled and pushed him, but her heart felt warm because of his concern.

She stood at the door, watching Lu Yiran holding Chenchen's hand and walking towards the elevator.

Chenchen excitedly turned around and waved at her. Lu Yiran also turned around to look at her one last time, with a gentle curve at the corner of his lips, and nodded to her.

The elevator door slowly closed, isolating the father and son.

Mu Nanyan did not close the door immediately, but stood at the door for a while, listening to the sound of the elevator running gradually fade away until it became completely quiet.

The huge house suddenly became extremely quiet, and the air seemed to still be filled with the aroma of breakfast and the laughter from just now.

A calm and fulfilling feeling of happiness enveloped her.

She closed the door gently and turned back to her home which was still filled with a warm atmosphere.

Although she was a little tired, the corners of her mouth kept rising unconsciously when she thought that they would come back in the evening and this place would be full of liveliness and warmth again.
