Chapter 7 I Have No Home Anymore
Mu Nanyan sneered in her heart, but said nothing.
"Okay, I believe you. Since I'm not your daughter, I won't be returning to the Mu family. I'm married now, so you don't have to worry about what happens next."
"I've raised you for so many years, and now that you've grown up you want to sever ties with the Mu family."
There was a hint of resentment in Mu Feng's eyes when he looked at Mu Nanyan, as if to say, as expected, since she is not his biological daughter, he can never raise her well. She is really an ungrateful person.
When Mu Nanyan saw Mu Feng looking at her like that, a mocking smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.
"Sure enough, his true nature was finally revealed. He said he treated me like his own daughter, but what father would ask for anything in return? He's pretending to be a loving father with me. There must be a secret behind this, and I will definitely get to the bottom of it."
"So what do you want?"
Mu Nanyan looked at him calmly, and Mu Feng felt a little uneasy under her gaze. But for his own benefit, he still said:
"Didn't I tell you on the phone before? As long as the man gives me 10 million as a betrothal gift, I'll repay your kindness in raising me, and I won't look for you anymore."
Mu Nanyan was so angry that she laughed at his shamelessness. In the past twenty years, Mu Nanyan had only spent about one million yuan in the Mu family, but he was so shameless that he asked for ten million yuan.
Not to mention that she and Lu Yiran were getting married by agreement, so there was no betrothal gift at all. Even if there was, Mu Nanyan wouldn't give it to Mu Feng. And if Lu Yiran really did give it, would Mu Feng really let it go so easily knowing that the man she married was so rich? He might even ask for more later. Mu Nanyan knew the man in front of her too well.
"I'm marrying an ordinary person. He can't afford 10 million. I just married someone randomly because I knew you wanted me to marry that scumbag."
"I can't take out ten million, but when I make money later, I can return the money that the Mu family spent on me."
Upon hearing this, Mu Feng's face changed. He had raised him for so many years, how could it be just for that little child support? It must be to get more benefits. Now that Mu Nanyan was married, her value to him was gone. Suddenly, he didn't know what to do. But he definitely wouldn't let Mu Nanyan go just like that. He thought for a while and said, "How about this, I don't want you to pay the child support, but you just have to promise me three things."
"What three things?"
"I haven't made up my mind yet. I'll contact you when I do. Before these three things are done, you are my daughter, Mu Feng. You are not allowed to tell anyone else about this."
"Okay." Mu Nanyan agreed readily, because she knew that now that she was married, she was no longer useful to Mu Feng. As for the three matters, she could only deal with them as they came. She didn't know what Mu Feng would ask for.
After talking with Mu Feng, Mu Nanyan left the Mu family. When she was at the Mu family, Mu Nanyan was nervous, fearing that Mu Feng would say something to hurt her again. Now that she had relaxed, she could think about what had just happened.
Mu Nanyan looked back at the Mu family villa in the distance with a gloomy expression.
"It turns out this isn't really my home. I have no home since my mother passed away."
With her mother dead, her father having an affair, her home occupied by outsiders, and no family to care for her, Mu Nanyan thought her life was miserable enough as a child. She thought things would get better as she grew up. Mu Nanyan used to be very optimistic. Although she didn't have family, at least she still had friendship and love. She had her best friend Tang Yutong and Su Muyang who loved her. She thought that after graduating from college, she could marry Su Muyang, start her own family, have a lovely child, work hard, and create a better life with her own hands.
Clearly, all of this was about to come true, and she thought she would soon be happy. However, the experiences of the past two weeks had made her realize that the beautiful life she had imagined was just a dream. When she woke up, everything was gone. Su Muyang's sudden disappearance, a marriage formed for profit, her mother's pregnancy before marriage, the father she had called her father for twenty years was not her father, and after living for more than twenty years, she actually didn't know who her biological father was. It was ridiculous to think about it.
It was as if God was against her. No matter what she wanted, she couldn't get it. Maybe she, Mu Nanyan, just didn't deserve love.
Mu Nanyan looked at the cars passing by on the road and the pedestrians hurrying by, as if they all knew where they were going, but she, Mu Nanyan, had nowhere to go in this huge capital city.
She put her suitcase beside her and squatted on the side of the road, watching the pedestrians and cars coming and going, without moving. Passersby would look at her with inquiring eyes, wondering what she was doing. Mu Nanyan seemed not to notice their gazes and remained motionless. Finally, the ringing of the phone brought Mu Nanyan back to her senses.
She then realized that it was her cell phone ringing. She took her cell phone out of her bag and saw two missed calls from Tang Yutong. The phone was still ringing, and it was still Tang Yutong. She quickly answered the call.
"Hey, Yutong."
Mu Nanyan opened her mouth only to find that her voice was hoarse. Tang Yutong immediately realized that something was wrong and did not make a fuss like before. Instead, she asked cautiously:
"Yan Yan, what's wrong with you? I called you several times, but you didn't answer. Did something happen?"
Mu Nanyan only had this one good friend now. She didn't want Tang Yutong to worry about her, because telling her would be useless and would only make one more person sad. She sorted out her feelings and said in her usual tone:
"Nothing, I was outside and it was a bit noisy, so I didn't hear my phone ringing, so I didn't answer it."
"Really? If you have anything to say, you must tell me."
Tang Yutong was still a little worried because Mu Nanyan's voice just now sounded like she was crying.
"It's really nothing. What could possibly happen to me? By the way, why did you call me?"
Mu Nanyan quickly changed the subject, fearing that if Tang Yutong continued to ask, she would really give up. When a person is sad, he can handle it alone, but when someone cares about him, he really wants to cry and tell everyone about his grievances.
Seeing that Mu Nanyan didn't want to say more, Tang Yutong stopped asking and began to divert her attention.
"I've found an internship and was accepted today. Tomorrow is the weekend, and I want to invite you out for dinner so we can celebrate. I'm telling you, I'm spending a lot of money this time. I'm treating you to Love Song Cottage, which is really popular lately. I've even booked a private room. I heard that each room has a different view..."
