Chapter 271 Since He Doesn’t Want to Leave, Let Him Stay
After dinner, Mu Nanyan declined Cui Hao's invitation and returned to the 23rd floor holding Chenchen's hand.
As the elevator slowly descended, Chenchen looked up and asked curiously:
"Mommy, are the braised pork ribs my godfather made delicious? You didn't even eat a few pieces."
“It’s delicious.”
Mu Nanyan rubbed his hair, but her eyes were a little vague.
The elevator dinged and stopped on the 23rd floor, and her eyes unconsciously drifted to the closed door at the end of the corridor.
I don't know if Lu Yiran is back...
Chenchen followed her gaze and saw only the cold door. He tilted his head and tugged at the corner of Mu Nanyan's clothes with his small hand:
"Mommy, what are you looking at?"
Mu Nanyan came back to her senses and bent down to help Chenchen straighten his crooked collar.
"Nothing, let's go, it's time to go home."
The door lock opened with a click, and Chenchen stole a glance at Mu Nanyan while changing his shoes.
She was so absent-minded during dinner that she didn't even hear what he was saying to his godfather.
Chenchen then began to recall what Mu Nanyan said when she called him before. Could it be that Uncle Lu said he would come to pick him up but didn't come?
Chenchen also felt it was strange. He came to pick him up every day in the past few days, so why was he nowhere to be seen today?
Mu Nanyan noticed Chenchen's eyes and said with a smile:
"I'm fine, you don't have to look at me like that. It's getting late now, you should go wash up."
Chenchen glanced at the wall clock, then said to Mu Nanyan:
"It's only nine o'clock, so early."
"How is it early? Children should go to bed early."
Chenchen was a little unconvinced. He didn't go to bed until after 11 o'clock last night. Why did he have to go to bed so early today?
Mu Nanyan seemed to have guessed what Chenchen was thinking, tapped his forehead, and said with a smile:
"You slept at your great-grandmother's house before coming back yesterday. Did you forget?"
"All right."
Chenchen, whose sore spot was touched, suddenly became like a deflated balloon. He walked towards the bathroom with his head hung down. Soon, the sound of water splashing could be heard from the bathroom.
After Chenchen finished washing up and lying on the bed, Mu Nanyan began to tell Chenchen a bedtime story.
Under the warm bedside lamp, Mu Nanyan held a storybook, her voice as gentle as the night breeze.
Chenchen's eyelids gradually became heavy, but his little hands still stubbornly grasped the corner of her clothes.
Only when she heard the sound of even breathing did Mu Nanyan gently close the book and place it on the bedside table.
The moonlight shines through the gauze curtain, casting tiny spots of light on Chenchen's chubby cheeks.
Mu Nanyan skillfully tucked in the corners of the quilt for Chenchen, then quietly left the room and closed the door.
Mu Nanyan glanced at the time and it was almost ten o'clock.
She returned to the bedroom and was about to take off her makeup and rest when her cell phone suddenly rang.
The name jumping on the screen made her fingertips pause. It was Lu Yiran.
Why is he calling so late?
She hesitated for two seconds, then swiped the answer button.
The deafening music and noisy voices coming from the other end of the phone hurt her eardrums, and she subconsciously held the phone away.
Soon, a voice came from the phone:
"Hello, hello, is this Mu Nanyan?"
A strange male voice sounded, with a hint of helplessness in his tone.
Mu Nanyan frowned slightly, her tone polite but distant: "I am, may I ask who you are?"
"Hello, Miss Mu. I'm Lu Yiran's friend. He's drunk now. Could you please come and pick him up?"
Mu Nanyan was stunned for a moment when she heard this, and then she felt it was ridiculous. What did Lu Yiran have to do with her if he was drunk?
Her voice was a little colder:
"I'm sorry, I think you might have made a mistake. Did you find the wrong person?"
"No, aren't you Mu Nanyan?"
The person on the other side glanced at the phone screen while speaking.
"He's drunk. As friends, shouldn't you take better care of him?"
"We wanted to, but he wouldn't let us touch him. He kept muttering 'Nan Yan'. We had no other choice but to call you..."
Mu Nanyan clenched her phone tightly, feeling an inexplicable irritation in her chest.
Before, when Lu Yiran said he was going to pick up Chenchen, she thought Lu Yiran was delayed by something. She was even worried that he might have had an accident. After all this time, did Lu Yiran go out to drink?
"Since he doesn't want to leave, let him stay."
Her tone turned completely cold, and she hung up the phone without giving the other party a chance to speak again.
The cell phone was thrown heavily on the dressing table. Mu Nanyan stared at herself in the mirror and took a deep breath.
Not long after, the phone rang again. Mu Nanyan picked up the phone and saw that it was still Lu Yiran calling. Without thinking, her fingertips slid towards the reject button without hesitation.
Silence returned to the room, with only the subtle sound of makeup remover cotton rubbing against skin.
Mu Nanyan looked at herself in the mirror, a hint of self-mockery appearing on her lips.
What was she worried about? Someone like Lu Yiran was always surrounded by people who cared for him. She was being too self-indulgent.
Mu Nanyan had just removed her makeup and washed her face when the phone rang again. This time it was not Lu Yiran calling, but a stranger.
Mu Nanyan took a look and saw that the place of call was Haicheng. She didn't know who was calling. Mu Nanyan hesitated for three seconds and finally pressed the answer button.
"Hello, who are you?"
"Miss Mu, it's me."
The familiar male voice made her nervous instantly. It was the man who had just called her using Lu Yiran's phone.
"I told you, you've got the wrong person. Lu Yiran and I aren't familiar with each other..."
There was obvious impatience in her voice, and her fingertips unconsciously tightened the towel.
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. After a while, the person finally spoke:
"Sorry to bother you, Miss Mu."
When the man was about to hang up, Mu Nanyan heard a familiar voice on the phone. She only heard Lu Yiran drunkenly call out "Nanyan~"
Even though Lu Yiran was drunk, his voice was still deep and pleasant. His deep and mellow voice was like a drunken feather, gently sweeping across her eardrum.
Mu Nanyan's heart trembled suddenly, and she blurted out: "Wait."
"What's wrong, Miss Mu?" The other party's voice immediately came alive.
She bit her lower lip, but ultimately succumbed to the inexplicable worry in her heart:
"What are you going to do?"
I only heard the voice on the other side say helplessly: "He refuses to leave here, so we can only stay here with him. He should be fine when he sobers up tomorrow morning."
These words made Mu Nanyan feel inexplicably guilty, as if she was the culprit who made them stay up late.
Mu Nanyan actually didn't believe that a few grown men like them couldn't get rid of Lu Yiran, but when she thought of Lu Yiran's identity, perhaps no one else would dare to disobey him?
Mu Nanyan sighed helplessly and finally compromised:
"Where are you now?"
