Chapter 35 [VIP]
Han Shu didn't even have time to eat. He found a corner with lush plants and hurriedly dialed Ling Lin's number.
It was a weekday, during lunch break. I kept pressing the speakerphone for a while before the other end finally answered.
Ling Lin lowered her voice, her words still tinged with sleepiness, "She was sleeping, what's wrong?"
"Urgent! Urgent! Urgent! Urgent! Urgent!" Han Shu spun around in place. "Extremely urgent!!!"
The sound of a fire door creaking open came from the other end of the line. The person on the other end seemed to have regained their senses and said urgently, "Speak quickly!"
"Don't be surprised."
"Stop keeping me in suspense, just tell me."
Han Shu took a deep breath. "I've fallen in love with someone."
Ling Lin remained silent for three seconds, then erupted in a thunderous roar, "I told you long-term rentals would cause problems!!!"
"..." Han Shu was speechless. "What should we do?"
Ling Lin thought for a moment, "How much do you like it?"
Han Shu hesitated and said, "How can I describe this..."
Is it a liking for someone you want a future with, or a liking for someone you just want to sleep with?
Han Shu's cheeks flushed bright red. "Hey! What are you saying! I... I haven't decided whether I want to pursue her yet!"
Talking about relationships with someone who's never been in a relationship, Ling Lin sighed from the bottom of her heart, "Have you forgotten something?"
"What?"
"Your persona."
Han Shu: !!!
This is a bolt from the blue.
She was portrayed as married with children on Wenzhi Island. Being pursued by someone who wasn't single—who wouldn't be terrified?
"Think about it, whether you want to be honest."
Han Shu suddenly squatted down, sinking into depression. "If I confess, and he finds out I've been lying to him for so long, that I'm a person who talks nonsense and lies all the time, how could he possibly like me..."
“Hmm,” Ling Lin agreed, “If you don’t tell him, he’ll think you’re not single—”
"He won't like me either." Han Shu broke down.
Excluding her crush on the student in front of her in elementary school and her crush on her deskmate in middle school, she had never seriously liked anyone before. This first time, she found herself in an unsolvable predicament.
Han Shu wanted to strangle himself.
"I should have known better than to lie..."
"If you're not lying, how do you know him?"
"..."
Another dead end.
"Does this mean we're destined to fail?" Han Shu asked dejectedly. "Should I move out today?"
"Move away? Are you kidding me!" Ling Lin said, exasperated. "You like it already, how can you not give it a try? What if?"
The lack of response to messages all night, the dismissive attitude... Han Shu's heart sank to the bone. "Unless something unexpected happens, I have no chance."
"Hey! I'm a beauty, a top student from a 985 university, and I'm always right under his nose. Unless he's not single, how could he not have feelings for me?"
"He's not like your ex-boyfriends," Han Shu said with a mournful face. "He's a genius!!! You say I'm a blockhead, but he's the blockiest blockhead of all!"
Ling Lin fell into deep thought. "That's true. Someone who plays hopscotch in the middle of the night and drags you into playing games all day long, how could such a person have worldly desires?"
Han Shu: ...
Utter despair.
Before yesterday, she firmly believed Xiaoyu's words. Wen Zhiyu wasn't targeting her; after all, the ointment and the cat house wouldn't lie.
But no matter how exaggerated these actions are, they can only be considered friendly gestures between friends. The instinctive physical avoidance is a projection of one's true inner thoughts.
Han Shu had lost all his strength and collapsed to the ground.
"The best approach is to remain calm and observe before formulating a strategy," Ling Lin boldly speculated. "What if he actually likes you too, but is just holding back because you're married and have children?"
"...Don't make up impossible things to comfort me."
Ling Lin also felt guilty and chuckled twice, "Anyway, nothing is certain right now, so don't surrender before you even get to the battlefield."
surrender.
Han Shu really wanted to surrender, wishing she could tear a piece off the hem of her white dress and raise her hands to surrender with a white flag.
"Minor Heat?"
It is a spring scene.
Han Shu walked around the vegetation, "Here it is!"
Chun Jing chuckled, "What are you doing hiding here? Someone's looking for you at the door."
Han Shu's mind went blank, and he blinked in confusion. "Who would be looking for me?"
Chunjing, who was half a head taller than her, easily put her arm around her shoulder. "What do you think? Who else could it be?"
Taking a shortcut back to the shop from the backyard, the view suddenly opened up. The tall, elegant man stood at the foot of the stone steps, his gaze sweeping over the tourists coming and going in the shop, precisely fixing on her.
Once their eyes met, Han Shu found himself unable to move.
She was nervous, even more so than when she discovered before the presentation that the topic differed from the one given by her superiors, and when she was about to improvise.
"Go ahead," Chunjing urged. "I've been waiting for you for a while, and you couldn't wait any longer, so you asked me to do this."
Han Shu was speechless and could only give her an awkward smile.
One step, two steps.
Han Shu counted his steps and slowly crawled towards the door.
Wen Zhiyu saw it all, and his heart ached with each thud.
What should have been a matter for him to resolve caused her distress.
Yesterday, when he discovered that Han Shu had left without a word, the fear and disappointment he felt at that moment overwhelmed him, defying gravity. The short distance of a dozen meters from the stairwell to the door felt like walking on cotton, and like walking on a knife's edge, filled with anxiety.
When I saw the first shelf of the cabinet, my heart finally settled. Instead, I felt an overwhelming urge to see her and be completely honest with her. This urge reached its peak as I sat in the driver's seat and placed my hand on the gearshift.
If a relationship causes distress to the other person and their family, it is an immoral act.
Wen Zhiyu hadn't slept for a day and a night, finally giving in to his emotions. What good was drinking poison to quench his thirst? It was enough to quench his thirst now. He stopped thinking about the future, which didn't even exist, and only wanted to seize the present, to hold onto every single moment with her by his side.
—Make the most of every minute as a friend.
"I--"
"I……"
And at the same time, he shut up.
After waiting a while, Wen Zhiyu still didn't speak. Han Shu clutched the pocket of her skirt, her lips already out of her control, "I...I didn't eat lunch."
Once the words were out of his mouth, his rationality crumbled, his cheeks flushing red.
Help! What's the difference between this and begging for food?!
Wen Zhiyu was prepared to be criticized and apologize sincerely, but he was still taken aback when he heard this. "I didn't eat it either."
Han Shu quickly added, "Then I'll treat you to dinner, to a good restaurant."
Wen Zhiyu wanted to say he would treat her, but he was afraid of upsetting her, so he obediently nodded.
During their stay at Mr. Problem's B&B, Han Shu and Wen Zhiyu ate countless meals together. At first, things were tense, then they managed to be somewhat harmonious, and eventually they became relaxed and happy together.
But I've never been so polite before.
Han Shu quickly poured out some herbal tea, presented the cup with both hands, and said, "Please drink, please drink."
Wen Zhiyu bowed slightly and accepted the gift, saying, "Thank you."
Wen Zhiyu wiped his hands clean, peeled off most of the shrimp, and said, "You eat."
Han Shu almost stood up and bowed, saying, "Thank you, thank you."
The two silently devoured the food, but both felt something was off.
Han Shu: Wasn't she angry with Wen Zhiyu? How come she can't be angry at all now? Instead, she's so nervous that her legs are going numb!
Wen Zhiyu: He did something wrong yesterday and made her angry, so angry that she wants to be a stranger to him. He's drawing a line... It hurts!
Taking advantage of the opportunity to pour the herbal tea, Han Shu furtively rolled his eyes.
—Just a quick glance.
Taking advantage of the opportunity of her pouring her cold tea, Wen Zhiyu secretly lifted his eyelids.
Just one look.
Their gazes met silently, resulting in the devastating collision between Godzilla and Kong.
Han Shu's hand trembled, and the herbal tea spilled over the rim of the cup, scattering across half the table.
Wen Zhiyu hurriedly got up, forgetting that he was in a small eatery rather than a high-end restaurant. His thigh slammed against the edge of the table, causing the table to move with a screeching sound, and the teapot that had been shaking just moments before tipped over.
Just as the two hands were about to spread from half the table to the entire table and floor, they reached for the teapot at the same time, but only touched each other five centimeters above it.
Han Shu quickly pulled his hand back and put it behind his back, his head burning with embarrassment.
She...she...she touched his hand! Wen Zhiyu's hand!!!
She had completely forgotten that she had put her arms around his waist, grabbed his arms and chest, and even been pulled into his embrace. It was just a fleeting touch of her knuckles; why did she feel so embarrassed and ashamed?
Wen Zhiyu froze for a moment before picking up the teapot.
Just then, a waiter arrived. He said "sorry" in a low voice, then handed Han Shu a few tissues, saying, "Wipe your hands."
Han Shu carefully pinched the corner of the tissue. "Thank you."
While they were tidying up, the two made room and stood side by side in the aisle.
While the other tables in the restaurant were filled with laughter and joy, they seemed like two statues, completely out of place.
Han Shu felt he had to say something.
What should be said in a natural way, so that Wen Zhiyu doesn't notice anything amiss?
Wen Zhiyu also wanted to say something.
But Han Shu's evasive behavior was too conspicuous. What could someone of his status say?
You didn't sleep well last night—
"You were quitting surfing last night—"
"you say."
"You go first."
Han Shu unconsciously picked at the corner of the table and whispered, "Your dark circles are so heavy."
Wen Zhiyu's lips curled up at her simple words, and his internal organs seemed to start working at high speed. He gripped the other corner of the table. "I...didn't sleep last night."
Han Shu shrank back and didn't ask any more questions.
After waiting for a while without a response, Wen Zhiyu asked, "Did you sleep well last night in the changed environment?"
"...I didn't sleep well."
Wen Zhiyu sighed silently, "Go home after dinner."
go home.
Han Shu was in a daze, with the illusion that the two of them were actually very close.
She didn't know where she got the courage, but she turned to Wen Zhiyu and looked him straight in the eyes.
Why have you been avoiding me lately? Do you hate me? Do you want me to move out?
