Chapter 13

Chapter 13

The next morning, Han Shu woke up leisurely.

The wind and rain gradually subsided, and fine raindrops clung to the French windows, making almost no sound. The flowers and plants in the yard, having survived three days of deadly attacks, leisurely stretched their branches and leaves.

Han Shu glanced out the window, then rolled over, lazily extending her nap. She felt much better today, and her mind was clear. The fever must have broken.

Why is it so quiet?

She glanced to the side, but there was no sign of the man, and the laptop on the coffee table was nowhere to be seen either. If the glass hadn't been still there, she would have almost thought that last night's conversation was all a dream.

Han Shu got up, drank the remaining half glass of water, and his peripheral vision was drawn to an overturned plastic lunchbox.

"No way?"

She took a deep breath and lifted it.

A smooth, round egg, still glistening with water droplets, came into view.

She sighed and buttoned it back up.

Why wasn't she surprised at all?

Han Shu lay down again and picked up his phone to search for long-term rental homestays in Houhai.

After considering it for the past few days, she decided to take advantage of her stay to systematically learn how to surf. Since it was a break, and she was away from the stifling environment, she might as well go all out and be even more adventurous.

Houhai is the perfect choice as it's a popular spot for surfing beginners.

After browsing through various rental listings on the app for a long time, Han Shu found a small one-bedroom apartment with a terrace facing the sea. Although the facilities didn't look particularly new, it was clean overall.

For someone who lives inland with an ocean view year-round, a terrace is an absolute must-have. She decisively opened her private messages and inquired about the price with the landlord.

While waiting for a reply, Han Shu also researched the surf shops in Houhai.

After comparing several options, she chose a surfing club called Jielang. Looking at the reviews with pictures, she saw many young men and women standing on the waves, their carefree smiles shining through the screen, which made her smile involuntarily.

Without hesitation, Han Shu dialed the consultation number.

"Hello, this is the NoShow Club." It was a brisk female voice.

Han Shu was a little nervous, so he sat up and said, "Hello, I'd like to inquire about surfing lessons."

"We offer single trial classes, three introductory classes, and long-term courses. However, due to the recent typhoon on Hainan Island, the resumption date for classes is still undetermined. When are you planning to come?"

"I'll come after the typhoon ends." Han Shu glanced at the calendar. "May I ask how much the long-term course costs approximately?"

"The long-term course consists of twenty lessons, each lasting two hours. Surfboards are available for free use all day on the day of the lesson. The price is 3,600. Have you tried surfing before?"

"No."

"Then I suggest you take a trial class first, and see if you like the sport before you decide."

Han Shu thought about it and agreed that it made sense. "Then I'll go to the store to find out more details after the class resumes."

"Okay. Would you mind adding me on WeChat?"

Han Shu had just given his phone number when footsteps came from the stairs.

When Wen Zhiyu saw that the person was awake, she walked over excitedly. She quickly made a shushing gesture and pointed to the phone next to her ear.

"Please let me know when you confirm the resumption time, and I'll come right away," she said.

After hanging up the phone, Han Shu asked first, "Have you been to Houhai Village?"

Wen Zhiyu's eyes kept drifting towards the eggs. "No."

"Okay." Han Shu hadn't held out much hope for the otaku anyway, so she continued using the red app, "There's not even a bus stop around here, is it easy to get a taxi?"

Wen Zhiyu was still looking at the eggs. "I don't know."

Han Shu: ...

give up.

Wen Zhiyu asked, "Is it still burning?"

Han Shu touched his forehead. "It seems the fever has subsided."

Wen Zhiyu paused for a moment, then asked, "Is your cold better?"

"..." Han Shu was speechless. "If you want to play, just say so. Don't beat around the bush like that."

Her eyes are practically glued to the egg; does she think she's blind?

Wen Zhiyu coughed lightly, "Want to play?"

"I'm not playing!" Han Shu said irritably. "I'm busy looking for someone else!"

"Next player?"

"The typhoon is about to end, I need to find a place to stay quickly."

Han Shu stretched and got up to fold the blanket. To be honest, the sofa was not only spacious but also had the perfect firmness; it was quite comfortable to sleep on.

Wen Zhiyu sat on a single sofa, legs crossed, and asked, "Have you decided to live here temporarily?"

He seemed to have just taken a shower; as he sat down, water droplets from his hair landed on the back of Han Shu's hand, feeling slightly cold. She wiped them away imperceptibly, saying, "Mmm."

A glint of light flashed in Wen Zhiyu's dark eyes, "Then—"

Han Shu picked up the pillow and blanket, "No way!"

Wen Zhiyu shut up in frustration.

Han Shu glared at him fiercely, then dashed back into the house.

Don't think she doesn't know what he's thinking. Isn't he just trying to drag her along to play?

dream!

The long-awaited trip wasn't for traveling back and forth between Houhai and Nanwan District to play children's games with him.

Han Shu first went to the bathroom to check on the cat's condition. The raw meat and bones she had given it yesterday were finished, and the water had mostly drained. The cat seemed to be in good spirits.

Da Mi condescended to jump down from the sink, circled her twice, rubbed against her, and then jumped back.

She was amused. "You're quite friendly today! I told you I'm not a bad person."

Big Mi gave her a haughty look and continued to groom the two pups.

After cleaning the litter box, Han Shu quickly took a shower and then realized he was a little hungry.

"Meow!" She waved, with the heroic spirit of a general going to war, "I'm going out hunting, I'll bring you some meat later!"

Touched by her emotions, the three cats craned their necks as if copied and pasted, and then... looked bewildered.

Han Shu didn't care and strode confidently towards the kitchen. Passing the dining room, she saw Wen Zhiyu munching on a slice of bread. Raw.

Han Shu asked in surprise, "Where's your elaborate breakfast?"

Wen Zhiyu said with a straight face, "I'm done eating."

Who cooked the meals before?

Wen Zhiyu took another bite of bread, puffed out his cheeks a few times, and then suddenly stared blankly into space, remaining still.

Han Shu: ?

Five seconds later, he picked up the cup, took a sip of water, swallowed hard, and his expression returned to normal, with a hint of relief.

Oh, so he choked.

"Auntie, there's a typhoon, she can't come."

"So you were planning to just eat bread the whole time before she arrived?"

Wen Zhiyu nodded listlessly, "Mm."

"..."

Han Shu felt a mix of emotions. Yesterday, the shipbuilding was so exquisite and luxurious, how come they can't even cook?

She sighed.

This is so worrying!

Wen Zhiyu also sighed. Even seeing bread made him worried.

But driven by the need to survive, he closed his eyes and took a bite—

I couldn't bite through it; I missed.

Han Shu snatched the bread away, "Don't eat it!"

Even the unpalatable food was gone. Wen Zhiyu panicked, "The guests have food in their refrigerators!"

Han Shu ignored him and fled with the bread. Entering the kitchen, she opened the refrigerator and took out two eggs, two avocados, a handful of spinach, and a box of blueberries from the freezer, and then found a bag of frozen shrimp from the freezer.

Wen Zhiyu followed closely behind, saying, "The bread isn't good, give it back."

Han Shu shrugged, "No way—"

Before he could finish speaking, Wen Zhiyu made a swift move.

In the world of martial arts, speed is the only way to break through defenses.

A gust of wind blew by, carrying a crisp, refreshing scent. Han Shu's bread was gone, and Wen Zhiyu, clutching it, started munching on it again. While eating, she kept a wary eye on Han Shu, as if afraid it would be snatched away.

Han Shu: ...

Childish ghost.

She went to the sink to wash the vegetables and fruits, saying casually, "Eat, eat faster. By the time I finish cooking, you'll be full, and we can save some for Mimi."

Before long, the bread, which was being passed around like a baton, appeared in Yu Guangzhong's peripheral vision.

Wen Zhiyu carefully pushed the almost-finished bread onto the stove, took a plate from the drainer and held it in his palm, then quietly retreated to the side to wait.

Han Shu suppressed a smile and glanced at him sideways, "Want some?"

Wen Zhiyu nodded obediently, his bangs slightly raised, "I want to."

It was rare to see him so obedient, so Han Shu pretended to be indifferent and said, "Then perform a talent to make me happy and I'll give you something to eat."

Wen Zhiyu picked up a spoon to use as a microphone, looked up at the sky at a 45-degree angle to gather his emotions, and then, with tears in his eyes, recited with a powerful voice:

"How can I thank you enough? When I approached you, I intended to condemn your behavior, but you instead showed me genuine care!"

"How can I thank you enough? When I went to you, I wanted to snatch back the awful bread, but you gave me a delicious world!"

Han Shu: ...Get out!
