Zhi Ruo's question suddenly reminded her of the mole on the man's chest, but she didn't mention it to Zhi Ruo, instead shaking her head.
"In the dead of night, when it's pitch black, how am I supposed to see anyone? Well, anyway, Yiming is my son, so who cares who his biological father is?"
"But...but how will you get married in the future?"
"I never thought about getting married. As long as I can stay with Yiming, my father, and my mother, that's enough for me."
Zhiruo did not agree with her idea. In her traditional thinking, a woman cannot remain unmarried, otherwise she would be laughed at by the neighbors.
Seeing that Zhiruo was still lost in thought, Zhiwan gave a wry smile and comforted her:
"Silly girl, don't think about it. These next few days are very important. Hurry up and finish your work so you can earn more money. Only when we earn money can we shut those gossipy women up."
As she spoke, she glanced towards the door and saw Li Dazui, Zhang Erniang, and several women from Liulin Alley standing at the entrance of Luo Family Pharmacy, peeking inside from time to time and muttering something to each other.
However, she had no time to worry about that now; she just wanted to get the necessary medicinal herbs sorted out as soon as possible so they could be used the day after tomorrow.
That evening, Da Ming arrived at the Luo family's pharmacy with five people. Following Luo Zhiwan's instructions, they continued to repackage the medicinal herbs.
After giving them instructions, Zhiwan went back to her room to sleep. She hadn't slept for a day and a night, and she was feeling quite exhausted; her eyelids were almost drooping.
Fortunately, Yiming has her mother taking care of her, so she can get a good night's sleep tonight.
The next morning, as soon as she opened her eyes, she couldn't wait to push open the door and go out.
Old Mrs. Luo, leaning on her cane, stood in the courtyard. Upon seeing her, she immediately growled in a low voice.
“You good-for-nothing! You weren’t even born into the Luo family. What right do you have to pawn the Luo family’s house and pharmacy? Did the Luo family raise you and now you’re repaying kindness with enmity? You’d better redeem the house deed and the pharmacy license by today, or I’ll throw your bastard child into the mountains to feed the wolves and sell you to a brothel…”
Luo Zhiwan frowned at the distorted face of the old lady Luo, ignored her, and wanted to walk straight to the pharmacy in the front yard.
Seeing that she was being ignored, Old Mrs. Luo became even angrier. She raised her cane to strike, but was stopped by Jiawang's mother.
"Mother, let's talk this out, don't resort to violence."
Seeing someone trying to stop her, Old Mrs. Luo became even more determined, and she immediately shouted angrily:
"She's squandered the family fortune, what else is there to say? I'll beat her to death today."
"Mother, you can't hit her. Tianhe said that the pharmacy will be temporarily handed over to her. Whether the Luo family can be saved depends entirely on her. You can't hit her."
"Hmph! Tianhe is confused! You still expect this little slut to do anything? What can she do besides finding other men and having bastards? If you rely on her, you'll all end up sleeping on the streets and starving to death."
"Mother, even if you beat her to death now, it's too late. I beg you, please don't be angry. There's still a month left, give her some time..."
This time, Luo Zhiwan didn't want to continue fighting with her grandmother; she didn't have the time or energy.
Instead of wasting time arguing with her and getting nowhere, it's better to take action and prove her wrong.
Thinking of this, she glanced gratefully at her mother, lifted her foot, and continued forward, heading straight for the pharmacy.
Grandma Luo clutched her chest, panting heavily, and angrily cursed at Jiawang's mother:
"I told you from the beginning not to keep her, but you insisted on keeping her. Now look what's happened, she's going to ruin this family. Let's see what you're going to do. I'm telling you this now: if the Luo family loses everything because of her, you can die with her and her little bastard!"
After leaving those words, she glared fiercely at Jiawang's mother, slammed her cane heavily on the ground, and turned to go back to her room.
After standing there stunned for a moment, Jiawang's mother heard Luo Tianhe shout angrily from inside the room:
The child is crying…
She then came to her senses, quickly turned around, and ran inside to comfort the child.
This family seems to be in constant chaos these past few days.
When Luo Zhiwan arrived at the front yard, Zhiruo and Jiawang had already started working. Seeing her enter, Daming rushed over, yawning, and said:
"Young Miss, the work is almost done. They've left. Let me take my wages back..."
Luo Zhiwan looked up and saw the neatly packaged medicinal herbs, arranged like a mountain, against the wall. She nodded with satisfaction, then took out a silver pouch from her waist.
"Hmm, well done. Six men, eighteen taels of silver, here you go!"
Da Ming accepted the silver, bowing and scraping in response.
"Thank you, Miss. So... shall I come to work tomorrow?"
Luo Zhiwan frowned and pondered for a moment, then nodded.
"If you're interested, come on over. Same as before, three taels of silver a month. If you do well, there will be a bonus at the end of the month..."
Upon hearing this, Da Ming nodded repeatedly.
"Okay, thank you, Miss. Thank you, Miss."
Daming took the silver and left. She then came to Zhiruo and Jiawang, watching them busy at work, and asked with concern:
Why are you all up so early?
Jiawang stood up, wiped his face with his sleeve, grinned, and replied:
"Mother said that our whole family is counting on you this time, and asked my second sister and me to help you with some of the burden so that you don't get overworked."
It turns out that her mother cared about her; she just wasn't good at expressing it.
She narrowed her eyes slightly and nodded.
"Okay, let's tidy this place up this morning and close up shop this afternoon..."
Zhiruo, puzzled, put down her work and turned to look at her.
"Closed this afternoon? Ma'am, what exactly are you up to?"
