Seeing her standing alive in front of him and hearing her gentle voice, Emperor Wei was certain that he was not dreaming.
He slowly walked towards her, stepped forward, and hugged her tightly, his voice choked with emotion.
"Ru Meng, where have you been all these years? Why can't I find you? Do you know how much I miss you day and night!"
Tang Rumeng simply smiled faintly.
"Isn't it better this way? We can miss each other without having to meet, and we can leave the best version of ourselves for each other."
"I'm sorry, you haven't changed at all, but I've grown old, Ru Meng. I'm so afraid that I'll never see you again in this lifetime."
At this point, the Emperor Wei released his arms from hers, looking at her with tears streaming down his face.
"Why haven't you changed? Not at all. You're still as beautiful as you were back then. How are you doing now? Are you married?"
Tang Rumeng smiled gently.
"Living alone is much happier than getting married, having children, and dealing with a lot of chores."
"So you're saying you're not married? Rumeng, come with me, come back to Nanyuan Kingdom. Although I can't make you Empress, I can make you an Imperial Noble Consort. We'll never be apart again, okay?"
Tang Rumeng chuckled softly, then took two steps back and went directly to the table. As she poured tea, she spoke softly.
“I’m not here to rekindle our past relationship; I just want to find my daughter through you.”
"Your daughter?"
The Wei emperor stood there, stunned.
"You're not married, so where did you get a daughter from?"
As he asked the question, he suddenly seemed to remember something and quickly walked up to her.
"You mean, you and my daughter?"
Tang Rumeng gestured for him to sit down, then sat opposite him, pushed the teacup towards him, and nodded calmly as if narrating someone else's story.
“It’s about you and our daughter. I originally wanted to keep this a secret, but after thinking about it, I realized it wouldn’t be fair to you. I also want to find her, so I came to see you.”
"Where is she? Tell me where she is, and I'll go find her right now."
Ru Meng smiled helplessly.
“If I knew where she was, why would I bother to come looking for you? You are the emperor of the Southern Yuan Kingdom. You can say a word and the emperor of the Celestial Dynasty will help you find her. That is why I came to you. I also want to know where my daughter is.”
At this point, she recalled the past.
It turns out that when she was traveling with her father as a镖师 (bodyguard/escort), she met Emperor Wei, who was then the Crown Prince of Nanyuan Kingdom, in Phoenix City.
At that time, the Heavenly Dynasty and the Southern Yuan Kingdom were frequently at war. The Wei Emperor was being hunted down and was seriously injured. He happened to meet Tang Rumeng, who brought him back. Tang's father was kind-hearted and rescued him, allowing him to travel with the escort agency and treating his injuries. This saved him from being hunted down and allowed him to recover completely within a month.
During this time, Tang Rumeng took care of him, and gradually, the two of them developed feelings for each other and fell in love.
On their return journey after escorting the goods, they passed through Phoenix City again. While resting halfway, the two of them ran to a small grove outside the city to meet. They couldn't help but steal the forbidden fruit, and Tang Rumeng gave her whole body to Emperor Wei.
That very night, the inn where the Tang family's escort agency was staying caught fire, and everyone, including Tang's parents, perished in the blaze. Only Tang Rumeng, who had run away from the city to meet with the Emperor Wei, survived.
When they returned to the inn in the middle of the night and saw the raging fire in front of them, Tang Rumeng frantically tried to rush forward to help, but was stopped by Wei Huang.
"Rumeng, the fire is too big, don't go in."
"But my father, my mother, my brothers, and the people from the Tang Family Escort Agency are all inside. I have to go and save them. I have to save them."
"You can't go in, it's too dangerous. You wait here, I'll go in and take a look."
Just as Emperor Wei rushed in, Tang Rumeng vaguely heard people around her saying that the people who set the fire seemed to be looking for someone from the Southern Yuan Kingdom. They didn't find the person, but instead got into a conflict with the people here. In a fit of anger, the other side set a big fire under the cover of night.
Upon learning this news, Tang Rumeng realized that by saving Emperor Wei, she had harmed the entire escort agency.
She felt like a sinner, a complete sinner.
When she learned that no one from the inn had survived, she was heartbroken.
Emperor Wei also knew that the Tang family had died because of him, and he vowed to find the arsonist and avenge the Tang family.
The Wei Emperor rented a courtyard for her in Phoenix City and settled her in before returning to the Southern Yuan Kingdom to avenge the Tang family.
Two months later, after he had avenged himself, he returned to tell her the news, and that very night, she vanished completely.
From then on, he searched every street and alley in Phoenix City and the surrounding cities, but he could not find her anywhere.
Six months later, he returned home disappointed.
After ten months of pregnancy, she gave birth to a baby girl, but unable to care for her herself, she left the child in the grove where they were together for the first and last time.
The children were born here, and they should return here.
But after leaving the child there for two hours, she regretted it and went back to look for the child like a madwoman.
Just two hours later, the child disappeared without a trace.
It was daytime, and she was certain that her child hadn't been eaten by a wild animal, but had been taken away by someone.
So she began searching for the child everywhere, but after searching for half a year in the neighborhood, she found no trace of him. In the end, she gave up the search and prayed to God that the child could find a kind family.
By this time, tears were already streaming down her face. Emperor Wei reached across the table, grabbed her hand, and, with red eyes, softly asked:
