My younger sister, Luo Zhiruo, is just sixteen years old this year. She also has a younger brother, Luo Jiawang, who is thirteen years old. Her younger brother and sister have always doted on her as the eldest sister. Ever since the baby was born, when she went up the mountain to collect herbs, her younger brother and sister have been helping her take care of the baby.
Therefore, when she met Luo Zhiruo, she felt an inexplicable sense of closeness.
"You called me again?"
If that old witch hadn't relentlessly pressured him, why would the original owner have gone to his death with the child in her arms?
Thinking of this, she handed the child to Zhiruo.
"Take him back to his room first, I'll be there in a bit."
Zhiruo took the child and carefully reminded him,
"Big sister, if Grandma says anything to you, don't take it to heart. She has a sharp tongue."
"I know."
Although she responded like that, she knew in her heart that she couldn't possibly not take it seriously.
In this family, the grandmother has been the only one in charge for many years. I had heard my mother mention before that ever since she married my father, she has suffered all kinds of bullying from her mother-in-law. My father is easily swayed and has no ability to distinguish right from wrong. He listens to my grandmother in everything. Even though my mother does all the housework, she doesn't get any benefits.
Today, she will avenge the original owner and her mother.
Thinking of this, she went alone into the main hall, looked at the old woman sitting there, didn't speak to her, but sat down on the chair to the side, picked up a pastry, and started eating it by herself.
This ignoring of her left Old Mrs. Luo completely bewildered. She immediately turned cold and began to berate her.
"You brat, didn't you take that bastard child and die? How dare you come back?"
Her voice sounded as if it came from the underworld, sending chills down one's spine.
Luo Zhiwan stuffed the pastry into her mouth, tilted her head and looked at her.
“Die? You’re already sixty-eight and still alive. How dare I, your granddaughter, die first? I must wait until I’ve seen you off before I die.”
"you……"
Grandma Luo angrily pounded the ground with her cane, then, panting heavily, cursed:
"You brat, are you possessed or something? How dare you talk to me like that? I'll beat you to death today."
As she spoke, she picked up her cane and strode towards Luo Zhiwan.
Just as her cane was about to strike Luo Zhiwan's head, her younger brother Jiawang suddenly appeared out of nowhere and pounced on top of her.
"Grandmother, please don't hit my eldest sister, please don't hit my eldest sister."
This scene deeply moved Luo Zhiwan. In this family, the only people who cared about her the most and dared to stand up for her were probably Zhiruo and Jiawang.
But Grandma Luo's cane was already out of control and was about to hit Jiawang on the head. Luo Zhiwan raised her hand and caught the cane steadily, then pushed it away forcefully...
Because of her unsteady posture, Old Madam Luo stumbled backward a few steps and then leaned back. Just as her head was about to hit the corner of the table, Luo Zhiwan's eyes darkened, and she pushed the table next to her away, sending Old Madam Luo flying to the ground.
If she hadn't reacted quickly, Old Madam Luo would probably be dead by now.
But Old Mrs. Luo didn't appreciate it. She lay half-reclined on the ground, groaning incessantly. Seeing this, Jiawang's mother rushed into the house in a panic and helped her up.
"Mother, what happened to you? Why did you fall?"
Old Mrs. Luo pointed her finger at Luo Zhiwan, panting heavily, and roared angrily.
"It's all because of your wretched daughter! Get her out of here right now, get her out of here!"
Upon hearing this, Jiawang's mother looked at Luo Zhiwan and Jiawang, then shouted angrily.
"Zhiwan, kneel down and apologize to your grandmother."
Luo Zhiwan frowned in protest.
"I did nothing wrong, why should I kneel?"
"If you don't kneel, then take the child and leave! You won't be my daughter anymore..."
Hearing this, Luo Zhiwan really wanted to turn and leave, but Jiawang suddenly knelt down on the ground with a thud before she could react.
"Grandmother, my eldest sister was wrong, please forgive her!"
Old Mrs. Luo immediately scolded:
"Jiawang, a man's knees are worth their weight in gold, how can you kneel? Get up, get up..."
Jiawang turned around and looked at Luo Zhiwan with pitiful eyes.
"Big sister, you can't leave. Kneel down before Grandmother and beg her not to send you away."
"Jiawang..."
Jiawang's gaze left her momentarily at a loss for what to do.
Jiawang's mother urged again:
"Zhiwan, quickly kneel down before your grandmother."
Luo Zhiwan bit her lip hard, and although she was unwilling, she still knelt down.
Old Mrs. Luo, however, did not feel relieved. After letting out a low sob, she spoke again to Jiawang's mother:
"She was already an illegitimate child, and now she's given birth to another illegitimate child. Our Luo family can no longer tolerate her. Let her go!"
"mother……"
Jiawang's mother was a little anxious. As if afraid that Old Madam Luo would say something she shouldn't, she suddenly knelt down in front of Old Madam Luo.
"If you're going to let Zhiwan leave, then you might as well send me away too."
Seeing this, Jiawang nodded in agreement.
"Yes, if my older sister is leaving, I'll leave too."
Seeing her most beloved grandson about to leave, Old Mrs. Luo became anxious. She glared at Luo Zhiwan resentfully.
"Fine, we'll give that little bastard away later, and she can stay. We'll see if any man whose wife has died in his family is willing to marry her!"
These words instantly ignited Luo Zhiwan's anger.
She could kneel down and apologize to her out of respect for her elders and for the sake of Jiawang and her mother, but she would never allow anyone to touch her child. After all, that child was her own flesh and blood, the result of ten months of her pregnancy.
She immediately stood up, her gaze blazing as she looked at Old Madam Luo, and warned her:
“My child, if anyone dares to touch him, I will break their finger.”
Leaving those words behind, she ignored Old Madam Luo's ashen face and her mother's surprised gaze, and strode straight out the door.
Upon returning to her room, she heard her child crying and rushed over.
"What's wrong with him?"
"Big sister, he might be hungry. You hold him for a while, and I'll go to the kitchen to make some rice porridge."
As she spoke, Zhiruo placed the child in her arms and rushed out the door.
The original owner was physically weak and had not eaten anything nutritious after giving birth, so she had no breast milk. For the first month after the baby was born, the baby basically survived on rice water and often went hungry.
She picked up the baby and gently rocked him on the floor. Suddenly, she felt dizzy, and then countless images flashed through her mind like a movie.
She quickly sat down against the edge of the bed, holding the child tightly in her arms, afraid that the child would fall to the ground if she really fainted.
At that moment, a scene suddenly appeared in her mind: this afternoon, her grandmother would ask Li Dazui to find a family for the child, intending to send the child away while she was away.
this……
She suddenly opened her eyes. How could such a scene appear in her mind? Did she possess the ability to foresee the future?
Thinking of this, she felt a little disappointed and doubtful, but she decided to wait and see in the afternoon.
