Luo Zhiwan frowned and rolled her eyes at him.
"You look so sickly, what can I do for you? Cover Zhang with something. He'll catch a cold if he doesn't have something to cover him while he's sleeping here."
Xie Jiaxun then said "Oh," thankfully his grandmother had given him an extra layer of clothing when he left in the morning, which came in handy now.
He took off his coat and handed it to her, and she immediately covered Zhang Xiaoquan with it.
She turned back and instructed:
"Now let's compile a list of those who have taken medication and those who haven't, and also the ones who have stayed the longest. I want to see how their treatment has been effective."
Seeing that she agreed to let him help, Xie Jiaxun immediately nodded happily.
"Okay, I'll do it now."
As he spoke, he got busy, and Luo Zhiwan also started working.
Just then, Jiawang covered his mouth and nose with one hand and called out from outside:
"Big sister, something terrible has happened!"
Upon hearing this, Luo Zhiwan's heart leaped into her throat. She hurriedly went to greet them and anxiously asked:
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Jiawang's face was already covered in sweat from anxiety. After taking a few heavy breaths, he stammered:
"It's...it's Yiming..."
"What happened to Yiming?"
Upon hearing Yiming's name, her expression immediately tensed up.
"Mother just said that Yiming seems to be sick. He has shortness of breath and a fever. I'm afraid he may have caught the plague."
Yiming has contracted the plague? How is that possible?
How could the people in the backyard, who stayed indoors, have contracted the plague?
She didn't have time to say goodbye to Xie Jiaxun; she simply lifted her foot and ran towards home.
Xie Jiaxun arrived at the door, watched her run away, and muttered something to himself.
"Looks like she really does have a child, sigh!"
His eyes revealed disappointment, an indescribable disappointment.
After returning home, Luo Zhiwan hurriedly washed her hands at the pharmacy, changed into clean clothes, and went straight to the backyard.
When she arrived at her mother's room, she saw Zhiruo holding Yiming with red eyes and sobbing. Her mother was pacing back and forth in the room, and her father was sitting there sighing.
"Yiming..."
After calling out, she quickly ran over and took Yiming from Zhiruo's hands.
What's going on?
Seeing her come in, Luo Tianhe looked up at her, sighed, and left with his hands behind his back. Jiawang's mother came closer, wiping away tears and shaking her head.
“I don’t know what happened. We haven’t even left the house, so how did he get so sick?”
Luo Zhiwan quickly placed her hand on his pulse, then frowned.
The child has indeed contracted the plague, but fortunately it's a mild case.
"Everyone, quickly put your masks on properly so you don't get infected. Zhiruo, help him take off his clothes to cool down. Jiawang, go to the front yard and get two packets of medicine. Mom, please boil the medicine for me, add plenty of water, make sure to add lots of water."
Zhiruo took Yiming from her, helping him undress while asking him with concern:
"He's so young, can he even take the medicine?"
"It can't be taken internally; for now, we can only give him a medicinal bath..."
"Big sister, Yiming got infected without even leaving the house? That doesn't make sense. Could it be Dad, Mom, or Grandmother..."
Speaking of her grandmother, Zhiwan suddenly frowned...
Dad and Mom swear they never left the house, but can Grandma also swear she never left the house?
That old witch usually spends all day chatting with those gossipy women in Willow Grove Lane; it's hard to say she hasn't gone out these past few days.
Just as she thought of this, her mother rushed in.
"Zhiwan, something terrible has happened! Your grandmother is also sick. You must go and see her right away!"
Hearing this, she became even more certain that it must have been caused by her grandmother sneaking out.
She turned to look at her mother and questioned her sharply.
Has Grandma gone out these past few days?
Jiawang's mother hurriedly shook her head vigorously.
"No...no."
"Impossible. If none of you have left the house, Yiming and his grandmother would not have been infected."
Hearing her say that, Jiawang's mother lowered her head and muttered softly.
"She said she felt stuffy at home and had sneaked out a few times, but always at night, when there shouldn't be many people in the alley!"
Why didn't you stop her?
Hearing this, Luo Zhiwan felt like she was about to collapse.
She knew that the old witch wouldn't stay quiet; if she had known, she should have kept Yiming by her side.
Zhiruo also angrily questioned,
"What was she doing in the alley? Didn't she know the plague could kill people? What was she doing out there?"
Seeing that both girls were angry, Jiawang's mother whispered to comfort them:
"Don't be angry yet, let's think of a way to get Yiming and your grandmother treated first!"
“This illness can’t be treated at home. Zhiruo, go to the street and find the people from the government office and ask them to take Grandmother away. As for Yiming, he’s too young, and his illness is mild, so he can stay at home for now. As long as everyone wears masks and takes precautions, it will be fine.”
"no."
Seeing Zhiruo about to leave, Jiawang's mother stretched out her hands to stop her.
“Your grandmother is too old to be sent away. Besides, we have medicine in our shop, so we can just give it to her.”
Seeing that her mother was still speaking up for her grandmother at this time, Zhiwan took a deep breath and stepped forward to explain:
“Mother, if Grandmother isn’t sent to a centralized hospital, you, Father, and our whole family will get infected. Besides, the government has already issued a notice that no one is allowed to conceal their illness. Do you want to go against the government?”
Jiawang's mother was speechless for a moment. At this moment, Luo Tianhe walked in, angrily waving his hand.
"Send her away. If she hadn't insisted on going her own way, things wouldn't have turned out this way."
