Chapter 32 Redemption Obstructed

Upon hearing this, Luo Zhiwan's anger flared up instantly.

She unlatched the door, pushed it forcefully outwards, causing Da Jiang and Aunt Hu to stumble. She stepped out, hands on her hips, her gaze intense as she stared at the mother and son.

“Aunt Hu, I’m letting it slide today because you’ve been kind to me before. Although what you said was harsh, I’ll say it one last time: it was your son who came to my house to find me, not me who went to find him. He was the one who kept bothering me, not me who kept bothering him. From now on, please keep your son in check and don’t let him show up in front of me, or I won’t be so polite.”

After saying those words, she turned and went back into the house, slamming the door shut, leaving the Hu family mother and son standing there in a daze.

Seeing this, Aunt Hu scolded her impatiently:

"I told you not to come, why didn't you listen? What are you doing here?"

“Mother, I don’t want to break off the engagement with Zhiwan. Look how outstanding she is now. Even the city lord appreciates her.”

"Shh!"

Aunt Hu raised her finger to cover her mouth.

"Haven't you heard? She slept with the city lord. A woman like that pounces on any man she sees like a hungry wolf. You still want her? What would you do with her? To make you a cuckold?"

"She's not that kind of person, don't listen to those gossipy women talking nonsense."

"No matter what, you can't marry her. Once you pass the imperial examination with top honors, you'll be able to find any woman you want, and you can choose any of the noble princesses in the palace."

"Mother, but I like Zhiwan."

"Shut up."

Aunt Hu interrupted him impatiently, then grabbed his collar.

"Come on, come back with me."

"mother……"

Despite Hu Dajiang's objections, Aunt Hu grabbed his collar and forcibly dragged him away.

Zhiwan peeked through the crack in the door, watching Aunt Hu drag Dajiang away, before shaking her head helplessly.

"These people have such foul mouths. Li Dazui was almost beaten to death, and they still dare to talk about people behind their backs."

"Big sister, there's a saying: 'A leopard can't change its spots.' Just you wait and see, Li Dazui. She'll rest at home for a few days, and once her mouth is a little better, she'll pop out again and continue gossiping about others. She's never going to stop."

“You’re right, but for now, we can take a break for a few days.”

"Okay, let's go, close the door and go home."

Before going out, Zhi blew out the oil lamp on the table and followed Zhi Ruo to the backyard.

...

The next day, Xie Jiaxun walked in shortly after the Luo family pharmacy opened.

Upon seeing him, Luo Zhiwan looked at him with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.

"Young Master Xie, would you like to buy medicine?"

"No, I'm not buying anything. I'll pick you up for lunch."

“You said it was lunch, but it’s morning now, and I have a lot of things to do.”

"It's okay, I'll stay with you. I don't have anything else to do anyway."

Seeing this, Zhiwan looked at him helplessly, then instructed Jiawang:

“Go to Mother’s and get the bank notes and pawn tickets. I’ll go redeem the house deed and license today.”

Jiawang responded and then turned and ran towards the backyard.

She then instructed Zhiruo:

"You and Daming stay in the shop. I'll take Jiawang to visit some schools in the city and see which one suits him best."

"Okay, go ahead, big sister."

By this time, customers had begun to arrive. Daming and Zhiruo went to greet them, while Jiawang brought her silver notes and pawn tickets.

"Big sister, Mom said to ask you to buy a fish and some meat while you're at it, so she can cook something delicious for us tonight."

She nodded with a smile on her lips.

"Okay, let's go. I'll find you a school along the way. You're a boy, and you'll be able to become a top scholar someday."

Xie Jiaxun stepped forward and volunteered, saying:

"I know a school where the teacher, though young, is an excellent teacher. He was the third-ranked scholar in the imperial examination three years ago."

"Oh? Then take us to see it later."

"Alright, let's go, the carriage is outside."

With Xie Jiaxun's carriage, going out became much more convenient.

With Jiawang accompanying them, sitting in the carriage, the two of them were spared the awkwardness.

In no time, the carriage stopped in front of the Li family pawnshop. Jiawang was the first to jump off, followed by Luo Zhiwan and Xie Jiaxun.

After the three of them entered the shop, the waiter, just like the last time he came, was still sitting there eating sunflower seeds.

When he saw Luo Zhiwan, he was taken aback at first, then frowned as if he had thought of something, threw the melon seeds in his hand on the table, and went to greet her.

"Girl, what brings you here again?"

When Luo Zhiwan saw the waiter, she immediately thought of how he had robbed her of her money.

She pursed her lips and looked at him.

"Waiter, has your hand been behaving itself lately?"

"What did you say?"

The waiter raised his fist, glaring at her with vicious hatred.

"You brat, I underestimated you that day. You dare to bring that up again today? Believe me or not, I'll tear your mouth apart."

Upon hearing this, Jiawang quickly stepped in front of her, pointed at the waiter, and questioned him sternly.

"You run a business, how can you treat your customers like this?"

Xie Jiaxun also joined in the criticism:

"So, as the largest pawnshop in Phoenix, is this how you do business?"

Seeing that Jiawang was a child and Xie Jiaxun looked frail, the waiter immediately snorted coldly.

"Stop talking nonsense and tell me what you're here for."

Luo Zhiwan didn't want to waste words with him. She simply took out a silver note from her sleeve and waved it in front of the waiter.

"See these? Silver notes and pawn tickets. I'm here to redeem them."

The waiter was taken aback for a moment, then looked at her coldly.
