Chapter 34 The Young City Lord's Thoughts

Xie Jiaxun rubbed his hands together nervously and nodded.

"Yes, I took it. My grandmother said your medicine is very effective. My illness used to flare up every six or seven days, but it hasn't flared up for over twenty days now. She also said she wants to thank you properly."

"No need for thanks, as long as you are healthy, that's enough."

At this point, she noticed he seemed nervous and looked at him with some confusion.

"Young Master Xie, what's wrong? It's not hot in the carriage, why are you sweating?"

Xie Jiaxun quickly raised his sleeve to wipe his forehead, then shook his head.

"No...no, oh, yes...it might be a little hot."

Luo Zhiwan didn't know why he was nervous. He probably felt a little embarrassed, just like her.

The government office was soon reached. Xiao Liu parked the carriage and called out from outside.

"Young City Lord, Miss Luo, we've arrived."

Before Xiao Liu could even put down the saddle, Xie Jiaxun had already eagerly lifted the sedan curtain and jumped out of the carriage. He then personally put down the saddle for Luo Zhiwan and helped her lift the sedan curtain.

Luo Zhiwan got out of the car and nodded to him somewhat shyly.

"Thank you very much, young master."

"Miss Luo, you're too kind. Please come inside!"

He took the lead, with Luo Zhiwan following closely behind.

Today's luncheon was not attended by many people; there were only two officials who were on good terms with Luo Tianyang, Zhang Xiaoquan, and her.

As a woman sitting there alone, she felt somewhat uncomfortable. At that moment, Old Madam Xie came and sat down beside her, looking at her with tender eyes.

"Miss Luo..."

Upon hearing her voice, she was about to rise and bow when she was stopped by Old Madam Xie.

"This isn't our first meeting, no need for formalities, please have a seat!"

Luo Tianyang nodded happily at this moment.

"Miss Luo, you are a great contributor to Phoenix City. Today's luncheon is mainly for you."

Luo Zhiwan swallowed hard, feeling flattered.

"Lord Xie, you flatter me. Everyone has contributed a lot in the fight against the plague, especially Constable Zhang, the young lord, and everyone here."

"Young lady, there's no need for you to be modest."

Madam Xie gently patted the back of her hand, looking at her with a kind expression.

"If you hadn't sent someone back in advance to inform Tianhe to seal the city gates, things would have been in complete chaos inside and outside the city. Also, the control methods you proposed for the plague were very effective. The last time Phoenix City experienced a plague was more than a hundred years ago, so everyone was a bit flustered in dealing with this sudden outbreak. But thankfully you were there."

"Madam, the city lord said that Phoenix City belongs to everyone, and everyone has an obligation to do their part. I am just doing what I can."

“Miss Luo, please don’t be modest. Also, your Luo family’s pharmacy did not take the opportunity to raise the price of its medicinal herbs. This is a great thing for the people of Phoenix City. Even I, an old woman, think what you did deserves praise.”

After being praised by Madam Xie, Luo Zhiwan felt a little embarrassed.

Xie Tianyang nodded in agreement.

"Mother, you're right. It's admirable that the Luo family pharmacy didn't raise prices during this plague outbreak. Miss Luo, are you a good drinker? Let's all raise our glasses and celebrate the fact that the plague was eradicated in such a short time."

Luo Zhiwan hurriedly picked up the teacup beside her, and gave a wry smile.

"Thank you, City Lord. I will offer you all a toast with water instead of wine."

Xie Tianyang didn't press her, and immediately nodded with a smile.

"Alright, everyone, let's raise our glasses and toast to our victory."

After he finished speaking, everyone raised their glasses and drank the wine in one gulp.

Actually, Luo Zhiwan wasn't incapable of drinking; she just didn't want to.

After all, she's a woman, and it's a bit impolite for her to be drinking with a group of men.

During the meal, everyone couldn't help but praise her. Xie Jiaxun, who was sitting next to her, would occasionally steal glances at her with a faint smile on his lips.

After the meal, Xie Jiaxun offered to take her home, but she refused, saying that it was already early and she could walk home by herself, as it was just to help her digest her food.

Xie Jiaxun then offered to walk with her, and she looked at him with a hint of helplessness.

"Young Master Xie, you've been keeping me company all morning, you should go back and rest. Come with me to find a school tomorrow when you're free!"

"I'm not tired. I'll take you home. I ate too much at noon anyway, so I'll help you digest."

this……

Seeing his resolute attitude, Old Madam Xie also stepped forward to echo his sentiments.

“Miss Luo, it’s rare that Jiaxun is willing to go out for a walk, so let him go. He has been taking the medicine you prescribed, and his health is much better than before. He doesn’t have many friends, so let him see you off!”

Seeing that Madam Xie also said so, Luo Zhiwan could no longer refuse and could only nod.

"Alright, then I'll have to trouble you, Young Master Xie."

Seeing that she had agreed, Xie Jiaxun immediately smiled. He couldn't wait to say goodbye to Old Madam Xie before following Luo Zhiwan out the door.

Although Xiao Liu was following behind him, he only allowed him to follow at a distance.

"Miss Luo, what's your child's name? I saw him yesterday, he's quite adorable."

When she asked about the child, Luo Zhiwan's face was full of tenderness.

"His name is Yiming, Luo Yiming."

"Luo Yiming? That's a nice name."

However, he then asked in surprise:

"It seems the child has your surname. What about the child's father?"

Perhaps realizing his question was inappropriate, he quickly stammered an explanation.
