Chapter 42 The Origin of the Jade Pendant

The next morning.

Leng Chuchen and his two companions, carrying a jade pendant, went from pawnshop to pawnshop in Phoenix City, trying to find out if anyone had ever pawned the jade pendant.

But after asking around, no one had ever seen a jade pendant that looked similar.

He held the jade pendant in his hand, his face solemn and his heart heavy.

These two jade pendants were given to him by his grandmother when he was sixteen years old, when he accompanied his father on a military campaign.

At that time, the Empress Dowager said that one of the two jade pendants had the character "福" (fortune) on it, and the other had the character "康" (health). They were given to her by the late Emperor's mother when she married the late Emperor, and they were unique items in the world.

His grandmother told him to keep them safe, to give one to his loved one and keep one for himself, so that they would live happily and be healthy in the future.

That day, he took that woman's body on the mountain; it was her first time, and it was also his first time.

Afterwards, he was in a hurry to leave and didn't have time to look at her again or ask her name. In his haste, he gave her one of the jade pendants.

He originally planned that when they met again in three days, he would ask her what she thought. If she was willing, he could take responsibility for her, take her back to the capital, and at least give her the title of concubine. If she was unwilling, he would take back the jade pendant, buy her a house and land, and leave her enough money to ensure she would have enough to live comfortably for the rest of her life.

However, because he took too long to deal with the traitor, he missed the day he had agreed to meet her.

I don't know if she went to keep the appointment, or if she went but didn't see him and left disappointed.

No matter what, he was determined to find that woman. In his eyes, a woman's innocence was more important than her life. Since he had ruined her reputation, he had to take responsibility for it...

"Young master, let's go!"

Li Ping's voice came through, and he gripped the jade pendant tighter, nodding solemnly.

"Yes, let's go to the Luo Family Medical Clinic."

Since this matter has not been resolved, let's move on to something else.

When you come to Phoenix, you have to accomplish something.

Walking along the road, Hu Ke asked with some concern:

"Young master, what if we're not well received when we go?"

Leng Chuchen frowned, suddenly stopped, drew a dagger from her waist, and squinted at Hu Ke, who recoiled in fright.

"Young master, what's wrong with you? Are you possessed? I'm Hu Ke, I'm Ke'er, I'm Ke'er."

Ke'er was what Leng Chuchen called him when he was happy. He watched as Leng Chuchen drew his sword against him, and worried that he might say something wrong that would anger him, so he hurriedly tried to please him.

Ignoring everything, Leng Chuchen took two steps forward, glared at him, and gripped his hand tightly. With a swift motion, she turned the hand holding his arm around and slashed her own hand.

This scene startled Li Ping, who stood to the side at a loss, while Hu Ke stared at him with wide eyes and disbelief.

Only when he noticed that Leng Chuchen's hand was bleeding did he stammer out a greeting:

"Ah... Ah Ping... Ping, hurry... hurry..."

Li Ping, who was standing there in a daze, seemed to realize something and ran over like a madman. When he saw the wound on Leng Chuchen's hand, he breathed a heavy sigh of relief and patted his chest forcefully.

"Thank goodness."

Leng Chuchen immediately frowned.

"Where is a good place? Take me to see a doctor right away."

"Thank goodness it's just a minor injury; I was terrified just now."

At this moment, Hu Ke realized that the young master had intended to inflict a minor injury on him so that he could take the opportunity to go to the Luo family's medical clinic. However, at the moment the knife fell, he took the blow for him.

He looked at him with eyes full of gratitude, nodding repeatedly.

"Young master, you are too kind. You saved me. I should have been the one to suffer this injury."

"Stop talking nonsense."

Seeing that passersby were looking at them with strange eyes, he cleared his throat, pinched his wound, and walked towards the Luo family clinic.

Seeing this, Hu Ke and Li Ping quickly followed.

The three arrived at the entrance of the Luo Family Medical Clinic. Li Ping shouted at the top of his lungs,

"Doctor! Doctor! Someone's dying!"

As soon as he shouted those words, Leng Chuchen glared at him resentfully and whispered a reminder to him.

"Can you be a little more reliable? Will someone die from a cut on your house?"

"Young master, if we don't make it sound serious, do you think they'll take it seriously? Hurry up and pretend you're poisoned or have lost too much blood."

As he spoke, he raised his hand and tried to ruffle Leng Chuchen's hair to make him look more haggard, but Leng Chuchen quickly slapped his hand away.

At the same time, Zhiruo and Jiawang ran out of the house. When Zhiruo saw the three people standing in front of her, she immediately put her hands on her hips in displeasure.

"What are you doing here again?"

Li Ping immediately raised his voice and yelled at her:

"My young master is injured. Are you blind? Can't you see it?"

Zhiruo glanced at his wound, then gave a disdainful snort.

"Where are you hurt? It's just a small wound, you can take care of it yourself when you get home, there's no need to come here."

After saying that, she turned to turn around, but Jiawang stopped her.

"Second sister, he's injured, let him in!"

"Jiawang, you don't know what's going on? Quick, go back and practice your writing so you can become a top scholar and bring honor to our family. Don't worry about them."

"Hello!"

Hu Ke took two steps forward, his face ashen.

"You run a clinic here, open to all, so why won't you let us in? Are we refusing to pay for your medicine or your consultation?"
