In the end, Li Ping successfully got the wooden cart back with five taels of silver. He and Hu Ke pushed the wooden cart together and went to the government office that night.
They were in such a hurry to deal with the affairs of the government office that they completely forgot that their master had not yet had dinner.
Leng Chuchen sat on the bed, half-closing her eyes and listening intently to the sounds coming from the doorway.
But there was no movement at the door, though his stomach kept rumbling.
He was hungry, so he didn't eat lunch.
Just then, the door opened. He assumed it was Li Ping and the other person returning. He frowned and questioned them with displeasure.
"You actually know how to come back?"
"Father, it's me."
When Yiming's voice rang out, he hurriedly looked towards the door.
As he closed the door, he secretly peeked outside. Seeing that no one had noticed, he closed the door with peace of mind. Then, he tiptoed to Leng Chuchen's side. Before Leng Chuchen could ask anything, Yiming opened his hands, revealing two dumplings inside.
"Dad, these are dumplings my grandma made. I brought them to you as soon as they came out of the pot. Please eat them!"
The two dumplings scalded Yiming's little hands until they were bright red. His father bent down with heartache, picked him up, and helped him sit on the bed. Only then did he take the two dirty-looking dumplings from Yiming's hands and couldn't help but ask:
Why are you here?
Yiming rubbed his hands together and secretly shrank his neck.
"Since your two men aren't here, I was worried you'd be hungry, so I brought you dumplings!"
He looked at the two dumplings in his hand. Although they were dirty, they represented the child's good intentions.
He licked his lips, opened his mouth, and swallowed the two dumplings one after another. Seeing this, Yiming looked at him with heartache.
"Father, you've really suffered..."
Before he could finish speaking, there was a knock on the door.
"Young Master Chu, I've brought you your meal."
Startled, Yiming jumped to the ground in a panic, muttering to himself.
"Oh no, my uncle is here. I have to hide. If my mother finds out, I'm doomed."
Leng Chuchen found it amusing and pointed to the space under the bed. Without saying a word, Yiming climbed in. At the same time, Jiawang had already entered the room and quickly came to the bedside.
"Young Master Chu, are you hungry? These are dumplings my mother made, they're still warm, eat them while they're hot."
Looking at the steaming plate of dumplings, Leng Chuchen suddenly felt a warmth in her heart.
Back when he was in the Eastern Palace, he could eat dumplings anytime he wanted. But when he saw this plate of dumplings when he was starving, he suddenly remembered the saying: It's nothing to add flowers to brocade, but you should be grateful to those who help you in the snow.
He nodded gratefully.
"Jiawang, thank you. Please thank your mother for me."
Jiawang turned around, squinting at him.
"Don't mention it. Li Ping and Hu Ke aren't here, so ignore them and eat by yourself. I'm leaving now."
After leaving those words, he was about to depart when he suddenly stopped.
"By the way, have you ever met Yiming?"
Leng Chuchen glanced at the area under the bed out of the corner of her eye, then gave a wink before replying:
"Never seen it before."
But Jiawang understood what he was looking at. He went straight to the bedside, lifted the curtain under the bed, and pulled out Yiming who was hiding under the bed.
Yiming pouted, looking at him with a pitiful expression.
"Uncle, how did you find out about me?"
Seeing him like this, Jiawang couldn't help but pat him on the head affectionately.
"You brat, your uncle can smell your stench."
"Really?"
Yiming looked at him with suspicion, then turned to look at Leng Chuchen.
"Dad, you go ahead and eat. I'm leaving now."
Jiawang gently reminded him,
"You brat, what did your mother tell you? You can't just call anyone 'Dad'. Why can't you remember?"
After saying this, he pulled Yiming along and walked towards the door.
Leng Chuchen felt helpless about the child who liked to call him "Dad." He had told him that he was not his father, but the child didn't seem to care and was calling him more and more affectionately.
Sometimes he would think that if he really had a cute child like Yiming, his grandmother, father, and mother would be overjoyed!
...
Three days later, Li Ping and Hu Ke rented a courtyard in a relatively secluded place not far from Luo's Pharmacy.
Half a month later, the Empress Dowager, disguised as Chu Chen's grandmother, came to Phoenix City.
Accompanying her were Leng Chuchen's biological mother, Empress Qi, whose status in the current dynasty was second only to the emperor, Nie Yuan, the commander of the emperor's guards, and Yue Xiaoyue, the empress's niece and the empress dowager's granddaughter.
After settling everyone in, Leng Chuchen couldn't wait to head to the Luo family's pharmacy.
After this period of contact, Luo Zhiwan's hostility towards him has not diminished at all, Luo Tianhe has always been suspicious of him, and Zhiruo has always suspected that he is the one who hurt her eldest sister because of that jade pendant. Therefore, she can't help but glare at him whenever she sees him. In the entire Luo family, only Yiming and Jiawang are probably polite to him.
He didn't understand why the Luo family was so warm and welcoming to everyone else, but cold and indifferent to him alone.
However, he never cared about what others thought of him, and he never changed his behavior because of other people's different opinions of him.
He is who he is: a man of composure, stunning looks, and a nature that makes people hesitant to approach him.
When he arrived at the Luo family clinic, Luo Zhiwan was treating a patient. He stood there, frowning as he looked at her.
When Zhiruo, who was getting medicine for a patient behind the counter, saw him, she rolled her eyes at him from afar, frowned, and walked out.
