Although she said that, she was actually very uncertain inside.
It's common knowledge among the people that royalty can turn their backs on someone without a second thought.
Especially since the Empress Dowager is in a coma, it will be difficult to ensure the safety of their entire family.
At that moment, the sound of the cell door unlocking came from the ground. Luo Tianhe stood up and his eyes turned cold.
"Zhiwan, Zhiruo, Jiawang, Yiming, you all remember this: no matter how the Emperor judges the case, we must not be afraid. I've figured it out these past few days. As long as we are a family together, what does it matter if we die?"
His voice trembled as he spoke, and his body shook uncontrollably. Zhiwan's heart clenched painfully.
Zhiruo and Jiawang were both trying hard to suppress their inner tension, constantly telling themselves not to be afraid, not to be afraid. But even so, their bodies still trembled involuntarily when they saw the person coming in.
The people who came in this time were not prison guards, but imperial guards dressed in yellow robes with dignified expressions.
After dozens of imperial guards rushed into the prison and lined up on both sides, a young man dressed in white appeared at the door.
The jailer followed behind him, bowing low. When they arrived at the door of the cell where Luo Zhiwan and the others were, he cautiously introduced them:
"Young Prince, these are the Luo family members."
It turns out that the person the Emperor sent to escort the Luo family to the Ministry of Justice for trial today was none other than Leng Chuyang, Leng Chuchen's younger brother and the Empress's youngest son, also known as the Little Prince.
He had a handsome face, and his eyebrows bore a resemblance to Leng Chuchen's.
He glanced at the Luo family members, nodded slowly, and then gestured to the guards beside him to open the cell door.
The moment the lock clicked shut, he gave a cold warning.
"I am here on the Emperor's orders to escort you to the Ministry of Justice for trial. Do not attempt to escape on the way, and do not try to outsmart me."
Luo Tianhe immediately gave a soft snort.
“We, the Luo family, have always acted uprightly and honestly. Why would we run away? We would love to go before the Emperor and reason with him.”
As he spoke, he casually flicked his clothes, put his hands behind his back, and greeted them with a carefree air:
"Madam, take the children and let's go."
Although he tried his best to keep his voice calm, Luo Zhiwan could tell that he was using a high-pitched voice to deliberately cover up his inner panic.
Jiawang's mother held Yiming's hand, and Jiawang and Zhiruo followed behind, walking out of the prison cell one by one.
Zhiwan stood still, took a deep breath, and then walked towards the door.
As he passed by Leng Chuyang, he called out to her.
"Your name is Luo Zhiwan?"
She looked up at him and nodded. Leng Chuyang took a rolled-up piece of paper from his sleeve and whispered a reminder before handing it to her.
"My older brother asked me to give this to you, saying that it might save your whole family in a critical moment."
His older brother?
Leng Chuchen?
It's just a roll of paper, how could it have such a big effect?
She took the scroll with some skepticism, and was about to open it when Leng Chuyang stopped her.
"The Emperor is still waiting for you, let's go!"
She hesitated for a moment before stuffing the rolled-up paper into her sleeve and following the guards out of the Ministry of Justice's prison.
The weather is so nice today. When she first saw the sun outside, she felt her eyes hurt from the glare.
She raised her hand, trying to shield her eyes from the sunlight overhead, but through her fingers she saw that Leng Chuchen was standing not far away, watching her.
Her brow furrowed slightly, and she quickly looked away.
"Zhiwan..."
Xie Jiaxun's voice came from behind her. She looked up and saw him standing in front of her, looking at her. Although several guards were blocking his way, he was still trying to run towards her.
Several guards stood between them. Fearing he might act impulsively and attack them, Luo Zhiwan frowned and loudly warned him.
"Xie Jiaxun, let's go back!"
Xie Jiaxun shook his head vigorously in a hurry.
"Zhiwan, I'm not going back. I want to go with you."
Seeing this, Leng Chuyang walked over impatiently and shouted sternly, "Get out of my way right now, or I will punish you for deliberately disrupting my official duties."
After saying this, he waved his hand, and several people pushed him further away. Then, guards herded the Luo family members one by one onto the prison cart...
"Zhiwan, I'll wait for you at the palace gate. I'll wait for you until you come out."
Xie Jiaxun's voice came from a distance, but she could still hear it.
Before she got into the prison van, she glanced at him, wanting to persuade him to go back, but she stopped herself from speaking.
The day they were brought to the capital, she tried to persuade him to go back, but he stayed there waiting, not knowing what the point of his waiting was.
She had told him long ago that she wouldn't like him and that it was impossible for her to be with him, so that he would give up.
But he wouldn't admit that he had other feelings for her; he only said that he considered her a friend. This really made her want to persuade him, but she didn't know how.
She asked Yiming to ride in the same prison van as her, and Leng Chuyang agreed.
She wanted to comfort Yiming on the way, and she wanted him to face everything bravely.
Leng Chuyang was relatively kind; he didn't put any handcuffs on Yiming, but simply warned him not to move around and to stay obediently in the prison cart.
The prison van slowly started moving. She glanced in the direction where Leng Chuchen had been, but he was no longer there.
Xie Jiaxun's gaze followed the prison cart she was in until she could no longer see him.
As the family walked down the main street of the capital, the people standing on both sides of the street, though unaware of their crimes, still pointed and whispered among themselves.
"mother……"
Yiming, who was standing next to her, tugged at her sleeve.
