Chapter 69 Imperial Trial

Her words stunned everyone present.

The Third Prince was the first to slam his fist on the table and roar.

"This is outrageous! You are criminals, and now you dare to make demands of the Emperor? This is going too far!"

The Eighth Prince nodded in agreement.

“Your Majesty, even if she cured the Empress Dowager’s hiccups, it is a fact that the Empress Dowager is currently unconscious. This time, we must not let her off lightly just because she holds this imperial edict.”

Although the two princes were furious about the Empress Dowager's injury at the Luo family's residence, the Emperor still raised his hand and said:

"Then tell me, what is your wish?"

A sly glint flashed in Luo Zhiwan's eyes before she spoke.

"I beg Your Majesty to spare the Luo family. I don't want the reward or official position mentioned in this imperial edict. I only want the Luo family to be safe."

Before the Emperor could speak, the Empress immediately rebuked him.

"Luo Zhiwan, you are incredibly audacious. Your son injured the Empress Dowager, and now you want to use the imperial edict to blackmail the Emperor? You are utterly shameless."

Luo Zhiwan also raised her chin without fear.

"Your Majesty is mistaken. Since His Majesty issued the imperial edict first, and I cured the Empress Dowager afterward, what's wrong with me asking for a wish to ensure the safety of my whole family?"

"You dare to talk back to me? You've got some nerve! Guards, slap her!"

Seeing that the Empress was being unreasonable, Leng Chuchen was about to speak up to stop her when Luo Zhiwan retorted without any politeness:

"I did not say anything wrong, why did the Empress slap me? If the Empress insists that this imperial edict is invalid, then my Luo family is willing to accept any punishment, even beheading. I beg Your Majesty to make a wise judgment on this matter."

Clearly, she was using the imperial edict to threaten the emperor.

The Empress's face turned ashen. She pointed a finger at Luo Zhiwan, her chest heaving with anger. At that moment, the Emperor spoke.

"Luo Zhiwan, this imperial edict was issued by me, and everything stated on it is law. Since you want to use this to ensure the safety of your Luo family, I can agree. However, I have one condition: if you can fulfill it, I will pardon Luo Yiming and your Luo family."

The Emperor's first sentence made her feel much more at ease, but upon hearing the second half, her expression immediately tensed up. However, she still calmly replied.

"Your Majesty, just tell me what you want me to do, and I will do my best to do it."
