secret?
Leng Chuchen looked at his big, blinking eyes with great curiosity, and smiled bitterly.
"Tell Uncle Chen quickly if you have any secrets. Your mother went over there to take care of the formalities. You will be leaving here soon."
"Will we ever see each other again?"
Leng Chuchen sighed and changed the subject.
'What was the secret you just mentioned?'
Yiming pursed his lips, about to speak, when Zhiruo hurriedly came over and called out:
"Jiawang, it's getting late, it's time to get going."
After saying that, she stepped forward and hugged Yiming. Leng Chuchen's brows furrowed slightly, and Yiming whispered to him:
"Uncle Chen, when you come to Phoenix City to see me, I'll tell you my secret."
Leng Chuchen didn't take the child's words seriously. He nodded reluctantly to him and then waved goodbye.
After Luo Zhiwan finished the formalities, he called out to her as she passed by him.
“Zhiwan”.
She stopped and turned to look at him.
"Is there anything else, Your Highness?"
He took two steps forward, getting closer to her.
Looking at her tired face, his eyes were filled with heartache.
He had met countless people throughout his life, but she was the only woman he had ever set his sights on.
He couldn't imagine what would happen if he never saw this woman again...
He shook his head. "The journey is long. I have prepared a carriage for you, with food and silver on it. Take care of yourselves. I will come to find you."
She looked at him with a smile, clasped her hands in a fist and said:
"Thank you, Your Highness. I will accept the gifts as payment for your grandmother's medical treatment. However, because of our acquaintance, my Luo family was almost wiped out. It would be best if we never met again. Take care."
Leaving behind those extremely heartless words, she turned and strode away with a carefree air.
Before leaving, she didn't look back at him one last time, but his eyes were filled with gloom, and his heart seemed to have gone with her.
...
Leng Chuchen prepared two carriages for the six members of the Luo family: one for Luo Tianhe, one for Jiawang's mother, and one for Jiawang.
Zhiwan, Zhiruo, and Yiming rode in one car.
As she walked out of the city gate, Luo Zhiwan lifted the curtain of her sedan chair and glanced at the city gate. In that instant, she felt a sense of relief wash over her.
Zhiruo also let out a soft breath, muttering to herself.
"We've finally left this awful place. We'll never come back here again."
Yiming pouted, looking at her with a pitiful expression.
"But Uncle Chen is here. If we don't come, how will we see Uncle Chen?"
Upon hearing this, Zhiruo immediately interrupted him.
“Yiming, your Uncle Chen is the Crown Prince, and we are just ordinary people. You'd better not call him that anymore, or you might get your head chopped off.”
Yiming shuddered, and Zhiwan reminded him as well.
“Yiming, after this incident, I believe you will be more sensible than before. The Crown Prince is the Emperor’s son. If we hadn’t known him, how could we have caused so much trouble? From now on, don’t mention him again.”
Yiming nodded as if he understood, but muttered to himself: But he hadn't had a chance to tell Uncle Chen his secret yet.
Just then, a shout came from outside, "Uncle Luo, Zhiwan..."
She hurriedly lifted the sedan curtain and looked behind the carriage, only to see Xie Jiaxun riding a horse towards them.
"Driver, stop the carriage."
The carriage stopped, and Luo Zhiwan hurriedly got off. Xie Jiaxun also caught up at this moment.
He dismounted, wiping the sweat from his brow as he grinned.
"I waited for you at the palace gate but you didn't come. I went to the Ministry of Justice prison to inquire and found out that you had already left the city."
Seeing his travel-worn appearance, Luo Zhiwan smiled helplessly.
"Jiaxun, thank you for your hard work these past few days."
"Don't mention it. You cured my illness, and I've always considered you my savior and family. I'm happy to do anything for you."
Luo Tianhe also walked over at this moment. He looked at Xie Jiaxun and let out a long sigh of relief.
"At the most crucial moment, only the young city lord was by our side. Zhiwan, you must not let the young city lord down!"
Hearing this, Xie Jiaxun looked at Zhiwan with expectant eyes, and she quickly teased:
“Jiaxun has always treated us like family, and I’ve always treated him like my own brother. Anyway, I don’t have a brother, so how could I have let him down…”
A hint of disappointment flashed across Xie Jiaxun's eyes, but he still smiled and agreed, "Alright, whatever you say goes. Let's go!"
Even though she knew Xie Jiaxun's feelings for her, she would not accept him.
She liked him, but only in the way friends would.
Besides, she's perfectly content with her current life, so why would she create trouble for herself?
She can earn money to support her family, so she doesn't need to get married at all.
To her, men were not only a burden to take care of her daily life, but also a nuisance to flatter and fawn over.
Rather than that, it's better to live freely and unrestrained now.
The Luo family traveled for half a month on the official road leading from the capital to Phoenix City before finally arriving.
Upon seeing the Phoenix City gate, Luo Tianhe choked up several times with emotion, and Luo Zhiwan's heart felt much lighter.
Seeing that the Luo family had entered the city safely, Xie Jiaxun rode away to return home and apologize to his parents.
The carriage quickly brought them to the entrance of the Luo Family Clinic in Yanglin Lane. After unloading their belongings, Luo Zhiwan tried to pay the driver, but he quickly shook his head and refused.
"Miss, someone has already paid for your round-trip transportation. Now that you've arrived home safely, we're going back to report. Farewell."
After saying this, the two coachmen drove the two carriages away quickly, cracking their whips.
