It took Shang Ning a long time to calm herself down. She stepped back slightly to avoid Jin Yining's hand.
Where is Xia You?
"She's still at the club. Are you going to take her to the police station?" Jin Yining looked at her empty hand, then withdrew it in disappointment.
Shang Ning's mind had calmed down, but there was still one thing she couldn't understand.
Should we take him to the police station?
Shang Ning bit her lip slightly and tightened her grip. "I'd rather she see a psychologist first than go to jail."
Looking at Shang Ning, Jin Yining asked in return, "She has tried to harm you time and time again, and you still care about her?"
Xia You's state is not that of a normal person at all; her malice towards Ning Kong surpasses that of all the haters.
"Learning something always comes at a high price. Perhaps in such cases, our earnest advice is not as effective as facing the symptoms directly and leaving it to more professional people to solve."
"What?" Jin Yining was momentarily stunned.
"Face Ning Kong's mental illness squarely," Shang Ning said in a deep voice. "Of course, many people treat mental illness as a hidden disease, unwilling to face it, unwilling to mention it, and even feel that consulting a psychologist is something to do in secret. On the contrary, this will cause a lot of regrets."
Jin Yining understood Shang Ning's words; it was a problem that he had overlooked, and one that many others were also overlooking.
"So, you want to exonerate her." The "her" refers to Xia You.
Ning Kong has already paid the price for his actions, but Xia You is still here.
"This isn't about exonerating her, but rather, before she faces the consequences, I hope she understands that she truly understands what she did wrong, instead of living in self-deception." Shang Ning didn't know how to explain it. Xia You would have to pay the price, but she hoped even more that Xia You would understand that treating others as imaginary enemies is tantamount to trapping oneself.
She didn't say that Xia You shouldn't be brought to justice; she just hoped that Xia You could understand before being brought to justice that her extreme ideas were wrong.
Jin Yining handed the milk to Shang Ning, saying, "Drink this first."
Shang Ning reached out and took it, thanked him, and held it in her hand. It was warm and comforting. "Teacher Jin, do you know what the biggest difference is between a person and a prisoner? How does a person become a prisoner as they walk along?"
Jin Yining knew that this matter had been a great blow to her, but there was one more thing he didn't say, and that ending it here was the best outcome.
"Surrounded on all sides, she's a prisoner." Jin Yining got up and leaned against the bedside table. "Her situation today has nothing to do with you."
"None of my business?" Shang Ning chuckled self-deprecatingly. "When we are born, there is only one type of person in our lives, called family; when we learn to speak and gradually become aware, the second type of person we meet is called neighbors, they are all around us; when we start school and begin to leave the community, a third type of person appears around us, called friends; when we graduate and start working, a fourth type of person appears, called colleagues. These four types of people surround us, what are they?"
That was a prisoner.
Being surrounded on all sides is called imprisonment.
“The word ‘prisoner’ is really good. There’s no line connecting the person inside to anything else, like protecting them inside. But if any line breaks, the person inside has nowhere to escape. So, repressed mental illness never comes from a stranger.” Shang Ning said, looking at Jin Yining. “I’m not trying to excuse her. Rather than a confession based on evidence, I’d rather she confess on her own.”
