Shang Ning slept until the afternoon. When she woke up, the sunlight was so bright that it hurt her eyes. She took a moment to calm herself down before she realized that she was still there, but her mind felt a little blank, and she didn't know what she had forgotten.
But what about Jin Yining?
Shang Ning sat up and looked around before getting out of bed to find Jin Yining. The living room and kitchen were empty, but the study door was ajar. When Shang Ning looked over, Jin Yining was asleep, slumped over the table.
The computer was still on, and I had written down a few names and addresses in my notebook. My phone kept sending out messages.
Shang Ning carefully entered, making her footsteps light, took a blanket from a shelf, and covered him with it.
Jin Yining probably hasn't had a proper rest in a long time either.
Just as the blanket in Shang Ning's hand touched Jin Yining's body, Jin Yining woke up. The sudden awakening made Shang Ning take a step back involuntarily. She blinked and looked at Jin Yining, who was sitting up, and said, "I, I'll just cover you with a blanket."
Jin Yining reached out and took her hand. "I'm sorry, did I scare you?"
Shang Ning shook her head. "Go to bed and sleep. There's no rush."
Jin Yining has bruises under her eyes, not serious, but clearly due to lack of sleep.
“Even if you’re going to investigate something, you should do it after you’ve woken up.” Shang Ning pulled Jin Yining up, gesturing for him to go and rest.
Jin Yining reached out and touched her forehead. "Are you alright?"
"What's wrong?" Shang Ning also touched his forehead; there was nothing wrong.
Jin Yining: "..."
It was still Shang Ning, but something was different; suddenly, she became gentler.
In the past, he would probably have hit him and kicked him to rest, saying he didn't appreciate kindness. How could he be so good-natured and talk to him like that?
"Have you forgotten something again?" Jin Yining asked as they returned to the bedroom together.
Shang Ning shook his head. "But I remember you, and I also remember that we seemed to be investigating something."
But she couldn't remember the specifics of what happened.
I remember you!
He was satisfied with just those four words.
Moreover, Jin Yining discovered that Shang Ning's magnetic field was relatively stable here, perhaps because she had lived here since childhood. Everything around her was related to her magnetic field. He and Shang Congfeng had verified this, and Shang Congfeng did not deny this possibility.
So being here is a good thing for Shang Ning, and it's one of the reasons he brought Shang Ning back.
While Jin Yining was resting, Shang Ning went out for a walk. The campus was familiar to her, and since it was winter break, there were almost no people on campus except for the residents of the family compound.
Shang Ning walked around the playground, just like when he, Xia You, and He Zhiyan used to play on the playground when they were kids. Back then, nothing happened, and they were just innocent kids who didn't understand anything and could just play happily.
Jin Yining slept all afternoon and felt a little better. When he got up, he saw Shang Ning on the playground outside the window. She was looking down, taking steps and counting something.
Shang Ning looked up and saw Jin Yining looking out the window.
They gazed at each other across time and space, one above the other, having traversed the lives of others before finally reaching him.
Therefore, she didn't want to leave, nor did she want to die.
I just want to keep watching him like this.
Under the basketball hoop, children from the family compound were playing basketball.
Those are the sounds of youth.
