"Who are you? What right do you have to act so arrogantly on the land of Bianzhou!" Wang Jiulang drew his small knife and pointed it directly at the man in green robes.
"Insolence!" The guard beside the green-robed man drew his sword and held it to Wang Jiulang's neck. "How dare you point fingers at our young master?"
"I am a member of the Wang family. My father is Wang Juesong, the Prefect of Bianzhou. If you mess with me, you'll never leave Bianzhou alive!" The man in green robes laughed loudly upon hearing this. "Even in the capital, there are very few people as arrogant as him!"
“If you act this way, I will definitely report it to His Majesty truthfully upon returning to the capital. Governor Wang will inevitably be accused of failing to properly manage his household!” With a glance from the green-robed man, the guard beside him dragged the woman in scarlet clothes inside.
"Now that you've entered the Moon Appreciation Pavilion, will you commit suicide or become a nun?" The green-robed man sneered. "If many scions of noble families were like you, they would be courting their own destruction."
"Who are you?!" Wang Jiulang quickly protected the woman in red.
"My surname is Yun, and my name is Yun Fan. I am the son of the Marquis of Anling County. Now you understand what it feels like to be oppressed by someone with power!" Jiang Jin was happy to have some peace and quiet without having to lift a finger, but just as he was about to turn around, Yun Fan stopped him.
"Lady upstairs, please wait!" Yun Fan climbed the steps one by one, stopping two steps below Jiang Jin.
"Doesn't my wife want to hear their apology?" Jiang Jin glanced at the two who had lost their arrogance and said with a smile, "Not interested. Thank you for today, Yun Langjun."
A clear and gentle voice came from under the veil. Yun Fan blushed slightly. "My lady is too kind. I was just helping someone in need. It's nothing."
"Whether you're born into a prestigious family or into poverty is not something we can choose, but the path you take afterward is one you've chosen yourself. You'd better watch yourselves." Jiang Jin gave them a deep look, her eyes filled with mockery and pity.
"What nonsense! I'm a daughter of the Wang family, and no matter what, I'm not someone your lowly status can dictate." The woman in crimson muttered under her breath, not expecting Jiang Jin to catch her red-handed.
"You're just a daughter of a collateral branch of the Wang family. A legitimate daughter of the Wang family isn't like this. You're full of straw and making yourself a laughingstock for no reason." Jiang Jin glanced coldly at the two below, then turned and went upstairs without saying another word.
"What collateral branch? Even if it's the main branch, so what? My father is the Prefect of Bianzhou. We can return to the capital whenever we want!" The woman in scarlet blushed, afraid of losing face again.
"So what? Now the eldest daughter of the Wang family is the Third Prince's wife. And who are you?"
The veil concealed Jiang Jin's smirk. Such bold words, once they reached the capital, would be enough to make the Wang family head fear them until his death, without even needing her intervention.
"Besides, my sister is about to marry Wei Shu, who is His Majesty's confidant. At that point, will anyone else have a say?" The woman in crimson finished speaking and gave Jiang Jin a cold snort.
"That's quite strange. A Wang family daughter eagerly becoming a concubine; anyone who didn't know better would think the Wang family had fallen on hard times." Jiang Jin sighed slightly, looking at the fool jumping around so energetically below. She felt that even without her own intervention, Wang Juesong would be implicated and killed by his own child.
"Of course, Jiang will be the concubine, and my sister will be the wife. Does someone from a humble family think they can put pressure on my sister?" Seeing that no one objected, the woman in scarlet became even more self-righteous.
"You demoted your wife to a concubine? Have you asked General Wei about this?" Jiang Jin looked at the woman in scarlet with interest, suddenly realizing that they were indeed of the same blood; she and her brother were just as foolish.
"It is his honor to marry a woman from the Wang family." The woman in scarlet didn't understand why Jiang Jin's tone had suddenly become so sharp.
“Unless he wants to die, he would never be so stupid as to demote his wife to a concubine. His marriage to Lady Jiang was bestowed by His Majesty. If he abandons Lady Jiang because of Lady Wang, wouldn’t that tell the world that aristocratic families are more important than imperial power?” Jiang Jin laughed angrily. “You dare to say it, but does Wei Shu dare to do it?”
"I..." The woman in crimson sensed something was wrong. Whether she admitted it or not, she would fall into Jiang Jin's trap, so she could only reluctantly shut her mouth.
"Looks like you're not too stupid; at least you can understand when I explain things clearly. I only have one piece of advice for you two: think carefully before you act." Jiang Jin finished speaking and slammed the door shut, leaving the two people in the hall staring at each other in bewilderment.
"Surround the third floor. Don't let any idiots in." Seeing Jiang Jin enter the room, Yun Fan didn't bother arguing with the Wang family members. The entire Moon Viewing Pavilion fell into an odd silence after their departure.
“Yi Yi, did you all hear that? Send it back to the capital exactly as it was, so that the Wang family head can see the wolfish ambitions of his clansmen. Then slowly reveal Wang Juesong’s crimes to the Wang family head. I think he would be happy to take action against a clansman who is ambitious and wicked.”
Jiang Jin was exhausted after a busy day and collapsed onto the table. The memory of soft, sticky jade dew dumplings popped into her head. "It's all Wei Shu's fault! I really want to eat jade dew dumplings now!"
Jiang Jin suppressed the urge to leave. Although Yun Fan had protected her at the Moon Viewing Pavilion, if the Wang family resorted to underhanded tactics, it would be a greater loss than a gain.
"Fine." Jiang Jin opened the door and beckoned to the two or three people standing outside.
"Er San, come here!" Er San carefully entered the room. "Does my lady have any orders?"
"Er San, go and fetch me lunch. I'd like an almond porridge, a meat pie, shrimp soup, and a serving of shredded lamb skin." Jiang Jin took a gold bean from her bosom and placed it in Er San's hand.
"Wife, isn't this a bit too much money?" Ersan asked timidly, looking at the gold coins in his palm.
"The dishes I ordered aren't expensive, but they took a lot of thought and effort. You have to pay the full price for them to taste good." Jiang Jin patted Ersan's head and laughed, "Alright, go ahead."
"Yes, my lady." After bowing and taking her leave, Jiang Jin had just straightened up when she noticed Yun Fan staring at her.
"Is there something you need, Young Master Yun?" Jiang Jin asked Yun Fan, mustering her courage, trying to see if he recognized her.
"It's nothing. I just sent someone to prepare the meal. I wonder what you'd like to eat, Madam?" Yun Fan had just returned to his room and changed into a light blue round-necked robe.
"It's just a simple meal, certainly not as well-traveled as what Young Master Yun has seen." Jiang Jin didn't want to say more, afraid that Yun Fan would think she looked familiar and ruin things.
"Canglu, go and take some calming tea to this lady." Canglu brought out a cup of calming tea from the house, walked around the stairs, and went to Jiang Jin.
"This was specially prepared by our husband. Although my wife remained calm in the face of danger, she still needs to get rid of the bad luck."
"Thank you very much, Young Master Yun. I'll drink it after I finish my meal." Jiang Jin took the teacup and placed it in the room.
"My lady, my husband has had a whole steamed lamb prepared today. Why don't you go and try it? Or perhaps I can have someone slice some and bring it to you." Jiang Jin was mindful of Yun Fan's kindness in helping her, and knowing Yun Fan had a good reputation in the capital, she felt somewhat relieved.
"No need to trouble yourself." Cang Lu was filled with disappointment upon hearing this. "I'll just go and bother Yun Langjun. Why bother having someone specially slice some mutton for me?"
Jiang Jin smiled and closed the door. "Oh, and I'll have to trouble Cang Langjun to tell Ersan to send the meal I ordered to Yun Langjun's room."
"Rest assured, my lady, I will certainly convey your message." Jiang Jin strolled to the door of Yun Fan's room.
"Many thanks to Young Master Yun for his help today, and for bringing me calming tea. I should have arranged a feast to thank you, but it's not convenient here. So I've ordered a few dishes instead. Would you do me the honor?"
"My lady, you flatter me. I have always despised those who abuse their power. I would have helped anyone in my position today. Please don't take it to heart." Yun Fan opened the door and welcomed Jiang Jin inside, then instructed the servants to stand beside the open door.
"I noticed that you're wearing your hair in a woman's style. I wonder if you're married?" Jiang Jin asked, sipping tea as she sat below Yun Fan.
"I'm already married, and all I know how to do here alone is tie my hair up like a woman," Jiang Jin said with an embarrassed smile, touching her hair.
"Why would Young Master Yun reside at the Moon Viewing Pavilion? I assumed someone from a prominent family like yours would live in their own villa," Jiang Jin asked calmly.
"The scenery of Bianzhou is truly exceptional. I came here this time to paint a landscape that will astound the Great Yan. The villa is too large, making it difficult to gather auspicious energy," Yun Fan explained earnestly to Jiang Jin.
"This is the first time I've heard such an explanation. Young Master Yun is indeed different from ordinary people, and his vision is very broad." The guards began to set out the meal: beef stew, black chicken soup, braised pork with floral patterns, and soup dumplings. One delicacy after another was placed on the table, and Jiang Jin was also somewhat surprised.
"Aren't these dishes a bit too elaborate?" Jiang Jin could tell that some of the dishes were simply beyond the capabilities of the chefs at Shangyue Tower.
"It's nothing, just a meal." Yun Fan used his jade chopsticks to pick up a piece of beef and placed it in his bowl. "This beef isn't available often, so my wife can have more."
"Young Master Yun, did you bring your own chef?" Jiang Jin recognized the taste of the capital city as soon as he took a bite of beef.
"My mother was worried I wouldn't like the food, so she brought along a few chefs who know how to cook Beijing cuisine. I just don't know if the dishes will suit your taste." Yun Fan pushed the black chicken soup towards Jiang Jin.
"I had some warming ingredients added. It's raining outside, and I noticed your skirt is a bit wet." Yun Fan ladled a full bowl of black chicken soup and placed it in front of Jiang Jin.
"Thank you, Young Master Yun." Jiang Jin looked at Er San, who had been brought over by Cang Lu, and said with a smile, "I was originally going to thank Young Master Yun for helping me out of this predicament, but I was so busy eating your meal that I ended up eating my dishes. Er San, please bring out my dishes."
"Yes." Ersan didn't dare to look any longer and simply placed the dishes on the table. "Wife, then I'll stand outside." A smile flashed in Jiang Jin's eyes. "Alright, if you're tired, go and rest."
Two or three stood outside the door with their heads down, but they were constantly listening to the sounds coming from inside. In the midst of their harmonious atmosphere, the door to the opposite room was opened a crack, almost imperceptibly.
A pair of cold eyes were watching the two people opposite him closely. Yun Fan would occasionally turn to the side in thought, while Jiang Jin listened attentively and occasionally smiled. It was a relaxed atmosphere that he had never seen before.
