Chapter 29: Interrogation of the Ghost
"What do you mean?"
The Crown Princess narrowed her eyes slightly, shifting her gaze away from her child and fixing it on Su Tan.
Su Tan didn't rush to answer. He just quietly looked at the sleeping face of the little prince in his arms. Suddenly, he asked, "Does the Crown Princess feel that the delivery room seems too quiet?"
The Crown Princess paused. It is said that auspicious snow means a good harvest, and today's snow was particularly heavy. Logically, the north wind should have been blowing with a howling sound, as if resentful ghosts were wailing, but at this moment, there was not even any sound in her ears, let alone the wind.
She secretly took a deep breath. All the things that were not right when she gave birth that she had no time to take care of came into her mind at this moment. What was there in the Crown Princess's family that she didn't understand? When she was halfway to the gates of hell, something big must have happened outside.
The Crown Princess clutched the quilt tightly. She closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, her gaze was already filled with a hint of coldness. "I'm giving birth today, and many people want to make it so that both I and my child will suffer. I can't just make one preparation."
Targeting the wet nurse would certainly be effective, but there are too many variables involved.
What if she suddenly thought that someone might take advantage of the wet nurse and decided to look after the baby herself at all times? Or what if the prince arranged someone more trustworthy?
If she was the one behind it, she would have preferred to die in childbirth.
"Master Su, please tell me everything that happened outside when I was giving birth. I just saved my life from the jaws of death. Apart from losing my child, I can withstand any misfortune!"
Su Tan lowered her eyes, "Senior Sister, let the Crown Princess take a look."
As Su Tan's voice fell to the ground, the door of the delivery room was opened, bringing with it a gust of cold wind, and Cui Wan threw the birthing ghost to the ground.
Screams suddenly rang out in the delivery room. Even the experienced Crown Princess shrank back in fear at the terrifying face of the birthing ghost.
The Crown Princess's ten fingers suddenly sunk into her palms. Her eyes fell on the birthing ghost, then quickly moved away, looking at Su Tan in surprise and doubt, "Master Su, what...what is this?"
"Ghost birth."
Su Tan held the child in his arms and briefly told the Crown Princess about the events that had occurred outside the factory today.
The Crown Princess felt a chill down her spine and subconsciously covered her stomach, a look of infinite fear flashing across her face.
She took a deep breath, forced herself to suppress the fear in her heart, and stared at the ghost lying on the ground. Unexpectedly, she felt that the ghost looked familiar.
But the Crown Princess searched her memory carefully, but could not remember where she had seen the other person before.
The Crown Princess dismissed her attendants and stared coldly at the ghost, demanding, "Who are you? I have no grudge against you, why are you trying to harm my child?"
The ghost had a ferocious face, his dark eyes bursting with intense hatred, but the corners of his mouth formed a strange arc.
"I just wanted to grab a substitute, and I happened to run into the Crown Princess giving birth."
"I really have no grudge against you, Your Majesty. It's just that you are unlucky~"
Her tone was so gentle and graceful that it should have made one's bones go soft, but the Crown Princess felt as if she was being soaked in coldness.
How could she not understand that this ghost was not telling the truth and was clearly teasing her.
She gritted her teeth, her eyes gleaming with coldness and even a hint of hostility. "If you don't tell the truth, I'll spend a fortune hiring every mystic master in the world. They have plenty of ways to torture a female ghost like you. I don't believe I can't pry your mouth open!"
She stared at the ghost in front of her and said coldly, "Don't refuse a toast and drink a penalty!"
The ghost refused to budge. She twisted her neck with a ferocious smile, not showing any fear at all. "Go ahead and invite her, Crown Princess."
"I'm a tough guy. You want to pry my mouth open, but even if I turn to ashes, I won't satisfy you!"
The Crown Princess's eyes were filled with dark clouds, and her expression became increasingly ugly.
At this time, Su Tan glanced at the ghost and asked, "How can you be so sure that your enemy is the Crown Princess?"
The ghost suddenly raised his eyes, his gaze almost fixed on Su Tan, "What do you mean?!"
Cui Wan looked at her with disdain, "Idiot."
Su Tan threw out a truth talisman and stuck it on the ghost. "Tell the Crown Princess everything you know, word for word."
The ghost of childbirth kept her lips tightly closed, thinking to herself, "You're dreaming!" But as soon as she opened her mouth, she couldn't help but say, "Someone captured me and made a deal with me. They wanted me to enter the East Palace today and make you die in childbirth."
The Crown Princess was horrified, but she didn't care about being afraid at this moment. She hurriedly asked, "Who is so vicious?"
The ghost stared at her hatefully, wanting to say, "I'll never tell you even if I die," but what he said instead was - "I don't know his identity, but as long as he wants you dead just like me, that's enough!"
The Crown Princess felt upset. She thought she would know the truth today, but who would have thought that this ghost knew nothing!
She suddenly spoke with anger, and turned to look at Su Tan, "Master Su, this ghost keeps shaking her head and saying she doesn't know anything. Just kill her!"
Why keep something that is useless and almost cost her her life?
Su Tan handed the child to Cui Wan, took out a piece of rice paper and a charcoal pen from his bag, and glanced at the ghost in labor. "Go ahead and describe that person's face in detail to the Crown Princess."
The ghost was reluctant to speak, but the truth talisman that Su Tan had stuck on her forced her to speak, so she had no choice but to tell everything she had seen without leaving out a single word.
By the time she finished speaking, Su Tan had already drawn the face of the person behind the scenes.
The Crown Princess was startled for a moment, her eyes fixed on the rice paper in Su Tan's hand. She was not surprised by the answer, but her expression was still so gloomy that it seemed as if water was about to drip out of it.
"Prince Yu is really a ghost that won't go away. Even with his legs broken, he still won't rest in peace!"
The ghost's cold body trembled slightly, its dark eyes fixed on the Crown Princess, its eye sockets twisted slightly with resentment, like a sharp arrow dipped in poison, "No matter how cruel Prince Yu is, he can't compare to you!"
Her voice was shrill, and she wished her resentment would pierce her chest, turn into sharp blades, and tear the Crown Princess to pieces.
"You killed me and my child. Even if I can't kill you, God will punish you!"
"There is a god above your head, you will not survive!"
"And your children too!"
The Crown Princess's face was gloomy, but suddenly her lips curled up, revealing a cold smile. "I have never claimed to be a kind person. From the court officials and concubines to the Emperor and the Empress Dowager, who among those in high positions dares to say their hands are clean?"
Her gaze fell on the ghost's face, and her eyebrows knitted slightly. "But the people I've killed all had names, and I remember those faces clearly."
As for the ghost in front of her, she just felt that it looked familiar!
"You said I harmed you and your child? What a coincidence! My hands are stained with blood, but I've never wielded a knife against a child!"
