Chapter 38: Eliminating the Water Ghost
The imperial edict has been issued and Su Tan cannot disobey it.
She came to the Sanzhi River with a sword.
Song Tingchen had been waiting there for a long time.
When he saw her, he frowned.
"Su Tan, I told you before, don't get involved in this mess."
Now the emperor somehow knew that she was proficient in occult arts, and with the intention of testing her, he asked him to come over and help her kill any water ghosts.
Su Tan glanced at him indifferently. In such a cold winter, the river nearby had already frozen.
Only the Sanzhi River still had ripples in the water, and a fishy smell emanated from it.
"Song Tingchen, the emperor didn't ask you and me to come here just for us to have a small talk."
"Look at the river, not me."
Song Tingchen stared at the river water solemnly. He didn't know if it was his illusion, but he felt that the fishy smell of the river water seemed to be getting stronger and stronger.
The river water was glowing with a faint green light, and the north wind was blowing, causing ripples to form.
Su Tan drew out his sword and stared at the river.
The next moment, she threw a stone into the water, causing huge waves to surge.
"ah!"
Furious shouts rang out.
Strange ripples appeared in the dark green pool, and something hiding in the Sanzhi River suddenly jumped out, staring at Su Tan.
“Damn it!”
A hoarse and low voice sounded, and a water ghost crawled out from the bottom of the river. Its head was like a human but twisted and deformed, with deep eye sockets and eyes full of resentment. Its mouth was wide open, with fangs intertwined and uneven, and wisps of rotten algae hanging between its teeth. A foul smell hit his face.
Every step it takes forward, the ground beneath its feet rots an inch.
Song Tingchen's face was covered with frost, and the sword in his hand was pointed directly at the water ghost. The Song family army behind him also looked ready to die.
"This thing has harmed many people. Let's kill it and get rid of this evil as soon as possible!"
The Song family army drew their bows and shot arrows, which were as powerful as a hot knife through butter. The arrows were wrapped with talismans to drive away ghosts, as if they were going to pierce the heart of the water ghost.
However, the arrow only passed through the water ghost's body and sank straight into the water, leaving no trace.
Song Tingchen frowned. This water ghost was even more difficult to deal with than he had imagined. Before leaving, he went to the Imperial Observatory on purpose. He got a special talisman to suppress ghosts, but it had no effect on this water ghost.
“Stand back!”
He shouted loudly and stared at the water ghost whose whole body was green.
"General!"
Song Tingchen's brows were gloomy, "Back off!"
As the General Zhenbei appointed by the emperor himself, he had long been prepared to sacrifice his life for the king and the people.
He frowned and slowly looked at Su Tan, "You leave first."
This water ghost is extremely difficult to deal with. They will probably die here today. Song Xiao cannot lose both his parents in one day.
Su Tan glanced at him indifferently, "Song Tingchen, I'm afraid you underestimate me."
The water ghost laughed sinisterly and rushed towards her. Su Tan went to meet him with sword in hand.
Wherever the water ghost went, no grass grew. Su Tan's sword was covered with frost and snow, bathed in the faint sunlight. She slashed the water ghost's left arm with her sword and actually cut off the arm.
“Damn it!”
The water ghost let out an earth-shattering roar, and the soldiers present covered their ears one after another. The sharp cry lingered in their ears, as if it was going to shatter their eardrums.
Su Tan frowned, "Stay away. You are mortal and cannot hurt it."
The soldiers looked at each other and immediately retreated.
They were no match for the water ghost, and staying here would only cause more trouble. Su Tan even had to free up his hands to protect them.
Song Tingchen waved his hand, signaling the soldiers to evacuate.
His long sword gleamed coldly as he fought side by side with Su Tan.
Song Tingchen slashed the water ghost's shoulder with a sword. This sword had been infused with spiritual power by Su Tan, who had reached the peak of cultivation, and blood had even dripped onto the tip of the sword. The evil ghost could not avoid it when he saw it.
The sword pierced the water ghost's shoulder and bright green mucus dripped out instantly.
"ah!"
The resentment that surged into the sky enveloped the water ghost at this moment. It roared, and the water of the Sanzhi River rippled. Song Tingchen was bounced away, and he spat out a mouthful of blood with a "pu" sound.
Su Tan's brows were furrowed for only a moment, then quickly relaxed.
She held up her sword and looked at the water ghost coldly, "You have done so many evil things, and now you still insist on being stubborn and unrepentant?"
The water ghost stared at her resentfully, chuckling. "The man beside you is a mere mortal. If he hadn't been holding a sword imbued with your aura, he wouldn't have been able to hurt me at all. But the sword he wields is so powerful. How come it can't match your current level of cultivation?"
"I see your tactics are based on the Way of Mercy. How come, like me, you've fallen for the wrong person and fallen in love with a heartless creature?"
Su Tan had a cold expression on his face. He didn't waste any words with him. He just picked up his sword and started fighting with the water ghost.
The water ghost grinned, threw out mucus from his hand, and ran straight towards Su Tan.
Su Tan raised his sword and shook off the slime, which fell to the ground and corroded the hard stone.
Song Tingchen's brows twisted into a knot, and he couldn't help but say, "Su Tan, be careful!"
He raised his sword and stabbed at the water ghost, making a big hole in its body. Su Tan took the opportunity to throw out a high-level ghost-suppressing talisman. The water ghost quickly dodged and grabbed a person with his quick eyes and hands to block in front of him.
This person was not someone else, but Liu Qingyin, who had pestered Song Tingchen to bring her here but was rejected, and had quietly come to hide beside the Sanzhi River.
The water ghost grabbed Liu Qingyin's neck and pressed her against him, "Don't come over, or I'll kill her."
Su Tan didn't stop her movements, but Song Tingchen stopped her with his sword, "Su Tan, Qingyin is still there!"
Su Tan looked at him coldly, a hint of sneer on his lips, "What does it have to do with me? Get out of the way!"
Song Tingchen looked puzzled and refused to budge, "This is a living life!"
Liu Qingyin was trembling all over, tears streaming down her face, "Brother Tingchen, save me!"
Su Tan drew talismans in the air, what did Liu Qingyin's life have to do with her?
Seeing that Su Tan had no intention of stopping, Liu Qingyin trembled violently, "Brother Tingchen! Sister Su Tan wants to kill me!"
Song Tingchen's brows knitted fiercely, and he grabbed Su Tan's wrist fiercely, "If you have any grievances, come to me. Don't hurt Qingyin, she is innocent!"
The water ghost exerted force on his hands, squeezing Liu Qingyin's neck tighter.
She looked at Su Tan with a pair of heavy eyes, "Master Xuanshu, no wonder you chose to practice the ruthless way. Look at the man beside you. For this woman, he actually doesn't take you seriously~"
The water ghost chuckled, his eyes full of gloating, "I said it all along, there is not a single good man in this world."
But in this world, it turns out that she is not the only one who has a miserable life and has met unfaithful and ungrateful people.
Even such a young mystic couldn't dodge it.
Song Tingchen frowned and stared at the water ghost, "Shut up!"
"Why, did this water ghost's words hit you hard, Song Baiyanlang?"
Cui Wan's cold and mocking voice came from behind the water ghost, and she actually pierced the water ghost's body with a sword.
