Chapter 12 Biology

Tanjiro brought Nezuko back to the Demon Slayer Corps and gave the blood to Tamayo. Knowing that the blood in Tanjiro's hand came from Upper Rank Two, Tamayo was shocked by Tanjiro's speed.

Tamayo was still very surprised when she received the invitation from Ubuyashiki Yoya, especially when she heard what Yamaguchi said about "the god who can control light".

Yushiro even directly called Ubuyashiki Kōya "crazy".

Even though the Demon Slayer Corps was very dangerous for them, Tamayo still came. She wanted to take a gamble, and now it seems that her gamble was right.

Tanjiro then realized that Tamayo was also a ghost, and her disciple Yushiro was an evil ghost transformed by her.

After hearing the story of how Tamayo was tricked by Muzan Kibutsuji into becoming a demon but ended up hurting her own family, Tanjiro was considerate and didn't say anything else.

He just asked Douma some questions. He didn't quite understand what Douma said, nor did he quite understand how he died.

Tamayo explained that Douma's death was due to the curse of Muzan Kibutsuji, but regarding Douma's questions, Tamayo just told Tanjiro not to think too much about them.

"They have countless time to recall and think about those things, but, Tanjiro, what you need to think about is how to keep yourself and the people you care about alive." Good and evil, life and death, have no meaning to Tanjiro. As long as he has a clear conscience, this kind child can do a lot of good things.

"I'm very grateful that you still thought about his words and treated him as a human being, but thinking about those things is meaningless. What you do should be worthy of your kind heart.

As for the demons, they are empty creatures."

Tamayo covered her chest and thought about the time when she was under control.

"I understand." Tanjiro left under Yushiro's vicious gaze.

When leaving, Tamayo told him that if he met the Demon King, it would be better not to kill him immediately, because they were not sure whether Nezuko was connected to the Demon King. If Nezuko was connected to the Demon King and Muzan died, Nezuko would also be in danger.

She is different from Yushiro. They are like kites with broken strings. No matter how fiercely the strings burn, it has nothing to do with them flying away with the wind.

"I understand, thank you." Tanjiro thanked him sincerely.

"I should be the one to say thank you." Her wish finally had the possibility of coming true.

After leaving, Bai Guangying saw that Tanjiro was still in a bad mood. Nezuko had already started playing with the children of the Butterfly House, and she sat next to Tanjiro.

She supported her chin and looked at Nezuko. Bai Guangying actually knew what Tanjiro was worried about. During this period, Tanjiro killed many evil spirits, but they were too weak and basically ended in less than two words. When the light shone, the ashes flew. Tanjiro could not smell anything, so he didn't feel much.

But Douma is different. Tanjiro knows that Douma is the leader of the Eternal Paradise cult. He had investigated that sect before because he was mistakenly identified, and heard many sincere expressions of gratitude from the women who protected him.

He thought that the leader should be a good person, but he never imagined that he was a man-eating evil ghost.

This contrast made Tanjiro confused and sad.

Is this world so miserable for some people that they have to rely on the help of evil spirits to survive?

This was too much of a shock to Tanjiro, a kind-hearted country boy.

"Let's go back to the Eternal Paradise Sect. Didn't they mistake you for their leader? Then we'll be their leaders, teach them how to make a living, and protect more poor people. Don't overthink it, just focus on the present moment.

There's no need to blame yourself. How can the evil of others be placed on you?" Bai Guangying comforted Tanjiro.

She used light to conjure up Douma's appearance and asked Tanjiro, "Tanjiro, do you really think they are human?

How do you define human being, physical, psychological or something else?

Physiologically, evil spirits are completely different from humans, but psychologically, they have accepted their transformation and follow their instinct to feed on humans. Some evil spirits even lose their memories of their human days after becoming ghosts, so it is meaningless to treat them as humans.

Nezuko is our sister, and we think she's just sick and there's nothing wrong with her, but isn't it an insult to other demons to think they're human? "

Bai Guangying thought for a while but couldn't find the right word, so she used a word that was not quite appropriate but could express the meaning.

This is Bai Guangying's doubt. In her eyes, evil spirits and humans are no longer the same species.

They are in a food chain relationship, where did this species come from?

Using human behavior and morality to constrain them, asking them why they eat humans, or feeling sad about why they eat humans is unreasonable. What else can they do if they don't eat humans? Solar energy can generate electricity.

It's not even a question of malice, it's instinct.

The rabbits and pheasants that were eaten didn't ask humans why they were eaten.

"Don't Guangying think they are human beings?" Tanjiro could feel Bai Guangying's sincere doubts.

"I don't think so at all." Bai Guangying said bluntly.

"...they were once human..."

"It's a ghost. You call the thing that a person turns into after death a ghost. It turns into another race. Aren't evil ghosts the same? Just because you can see it, you think it's a human?" Fairies look similar to humans, and they don't even eat humans. They don't think of themselves as human beings.

If humans think they are humans because of their appearance, fairies will find it outrageous.

Bai Guangying conveyed a message to Tanjiro: It is biological instinct for evil spirits to eat humans, and it is also natural for humans to hunt evil spirits in order to defend themselves, protect their kind, or for revenge.

There is no emptiness or meaning in life.

All of this - it was originally a very simple matter.
